Title: Wargamer opens 2002 games poll
Post by: Revvin on January 03, 2003, 11:40:34 AM
The Wargamer (http://www.wargamer.com/) has opened it's polling booths for readers to vote on their favourite games/sims of 2002, Aces High and Hitech Creations are nominated in the lists. You can find the poll here (http://www.wargamer.com/articles/readerschoice_voting_2002/).

Thanks for the info.

I just voted!

Aces High and HTC all the way.
And I can honestly say that I can compare it to IL-2 (although I didn't see IL-2 on the list?).

Mine is in as well. AH in all catagory's that had it. I did go for Operation Flashpoint Resistance, Prisioner of War, and Empire Earth Art of Conquest also. They don't get near as much time as AH, but my brother in law doesn't fly much and prefers to fight it out in them.

For the record, the form requires a valid email address as a part of a check to avoid 'ballot stuffing'.  At no time will it be sold,  shared or spammed if provided for the poll.

eskimo2: IL-2 was not released in 2002, therefore it does not qualify for our 'best of 2002' list.  I believe the release date was late 2001.

So why is AH in the vote? I mean its not as if AH was released in 2002?

That is actually being addressed as we speak.  I beliueve Mario is planning on making some sort of announcement about that soon.

I voted HTC for developer, they have been great.

Best game of the year, at least for the Wargamer has to be CMBB for me.  I love AH but don't consider it essentially a 2002 game, although it is much improved.  As many of you know I gave it last years Online Sim of the year awards for SimHq.  I still consider it among the best games made, guess that's why I fly it all the time.

Other than a marketing blurb, isn't this worthless?

Every game community will no doubt rally and campaign to move their product to the top of the list.

It's nothing but a popularity contest... a completely subjective one.

The big winner? WarGamer and their advertising $$$.

There... cynical enough? :D

I also prefer to see the way SimHQ and Combatsim judge their awards but at the end of the day someone has to win a poll like this and if all it takes is 5 minutes to thank HTC for the work they have put in this year and to possibly raise the profile of HTC and Aces high in the online community then it is worth it.

For the same reason, FA 3.5 and WB3 shouldn't be in there--the site re-mailed me and said I needed to change the votes--no AH anywhere this time.

Once again a website ignores the most popular MMOL flight sim, in favor of the old decrepid Warpbirds.  AH is nowhere, but WArpbirds....a game with 1/3 the players and only half the gameplay is there.....

Its just like the Gamespot best of awards....they have the same old drivel about Warpbirds being the only the best no comp no nothing close to it......yet again.

I get bored with the constant BS of these websites.  They are innacurate, and have some very blatant marketing skew on oh so many levels.

Im just going to enjoy AH, and let the others die a slow death

Geezus, look at that sim list.

Heli Hero's? What in the hell is that?
Flanker? Great sim when I had a P90.
BattleCruiser? lol!

What a silly poll. CFS3 might even studder it's way to the top.

It would be easier to just send pizza (http://www.dominos.quikorder.com/scripts/mgwms32.dll?MGWLPN=MWEBLINK&wlapp=QUIKORDER&guid=&x1=513656) to HTC. :)

WB3 might count because it was released as boxed game this year.

Thank you for your feedback.

We discovered that Aces High and one other title we had previously
included were not, in fact, published in 2002 at all, which excludes
them from our Best of the Year awards for that year.  It would be a bit
like nominating a movie released in 2000 for the 2003 Oscars -- our goal
is to have our readers vote on the best game of a particular year, not
the best games of all times, which would need to include a much larger
list to be all-inclusive and fair.

While it sounds like you are a hard core fan of the game and
disappointed, this is an award selection for the best titles published
ONLY in 2002 and thus any that do not fit that category cannot be
considered out of fairness to the system, present, past, and future.

We apologize for any inconvenience that has resulted due to our
oversight.  Aces High should not have been included in the list in the
first place and was thus removed as soon as we caught it.

Sincerely,

Funny thing about the "release"of WBIII is that it is the same thing available via free download for a couple years now.
"New"?  Not hardly.  Available via a different medium, i.e. retail stores, but NOT new by any means.
To be fair, neither WBIII and AH should not be on the list, since both have been out a couple years now, with periodic updates to both sims.

Yikes fellas, it's a cool website and just a 'poll' of sorts. No sense getting all excited and sending hate mail on a simple oversite, even though their correction was equally as silly. Your loyalty to AH is a bit much as well to get this bent over nothing.

I really didn't know how bad simulation enthusiasts had it last year till I read the choices. But Feb is a month off, and then the goodness will be released.

Don’t lynch me for pointing out how rabid and impractical the Anal High Spirit Squad can become, but to be fair, we all like our main pastime Sim here with HTC. It’s understandable somewhat. And the AHSS were obviously unintentionally baited by the Wargamer editors by taking seemingly little effort to research this ‘Simulation of the Year Award' criteria. Maybe none at all it seems.

Still, speaking of which, how much prestige will that little Wargamer graphic, indicating “Sim of The Year”, considering the clusterbang of additions, subtractions, and email apologies ever really signify?

Again, it’s not a big deal, other than a learning experience for the poor guys that run a cool website there.
