Title: One tough friggin' Stuka
Post by: Ack-Ack on January 04, 2003, 05:43:45 AM
This damn bird is one tough sucker.  I was able to nurse the damaged Stuka back to base and land it.

Is it just me, or do the aircraft that are supposed to be tough, perportionally tougher the more recent the version that introduced them?

eg. the Il-2 was tough, but the A-20G/Boston Mk III is tougher, but the Ju87-D is even tougher?

I don't know about that but I'd think that in real life a Ju-87D-3 with damage like that wouldn't have been able to return back to base.  I was able to steer the Stuka with just my rudders, something that I don't think the real life counterpart could have pulled off either.

if it was damaged in a perfectly uniform way like that it probably could but i garentee in real life no one would have the nerve to stay in it and try to land!

basically if an aircraft has just enough left to maintain some control it will fly but in 99.9% of those cases the pilot quite rightly and sensibly bails out :)

hmm, as long as you miss both wings it isnt hard, just steer with rudder and elevator, the hardest thing is to get both of your wings popped off

that same thing happened to me once in my B17, both wings gone just outside the nacelle. Made it home fine, but the thing that was odd was, that without the outer sections of wings the 17 was cruising at like 350 at like 5k. I have been trying to somehow figure a way to "knock" off my wings on a hangar or something to do it again but to no avail.

yep as long as your going really fast you should survive it...komet glides like a dream without any wings a all...

dive to about 230mph, pull up hard, but not too hard, otherwise the wings will be completly ripped off!
