Title: Tower Camping
Post by: PvtPyls on January 05, 2003, 04:25:18 PM
Now that this new perk modifier is in place, i would like to see the some sort of idle timer that boots a player when they sit idle too long. Whenever a team is close to a reset you can go into the A1 tower and see a full list of names on the range channel waiting for a reset. The rest of the country is losing out on sometimes half there perks because these guys want their easy 25 for reset.

That's silly, who on earth cares ??

I spend my time in the tower trying to locate a good fight. Some times that takes awhile....

Perks ?? You can have mine. I only have 450 cuz sometimes I have an uncontrollabe urge to fly a 262 suicide run..

On a carrier..

Just trying to do my part for the greater good.

I don't get it...

Does it hurt when someone is awarded reset perkies?

I think not.

I just did it a week or so ago, I helped my country whittle our opposition down to 2 bases. It took 5 hours of flying time and just before the reset my wife comes up with an urgent honey do...so I sat in the tower while I did what the "one who must be obeyed" requested of me and when I got back we had won the war.

So, like I asked, who's it hurt?

hes just so tight fisted hes worried that instead of a perk ride costing 30 perks it costs 33 because the country has so many in it and he doesnt want to pay for it :D

this has got to be the worst request ive ever seen. It totally ignores the fact that some of us sit in towers while planning or setting missions etc.

another thing is when a map is so close to being reset people often wait because as each flight lasts some 20 minutes min. and its often not worth the effort of flying only to have to land before the map resets. It totally ignores the fact that for the last 5 hours they may have been helping win the damn war in the first place. :)

You know this is the first perk miser ive ever seen :) wtfg :)

hehe seriously though pvt i think you have to be on the winning country for an hour or so before you get the 25 perks or something like that.People who swap at the last minute to try to get the 25 perks get nothing. And if the wars almost over WHY would you want to spend perks? If youre on the losing side then who on earth swaps over just to lose?

makes no sense :) but it is kinda funny

I would like to know how my sitting in a tower makes anyone lose perks? That has to be the second dumbest thing Ive read on the bbs today.

The point PvtPyls is making is that the perk point modifiers are based on the number of people in each country in the arena, not the number of people in each country flying. His observation is that, when a country approaches reset, people will just sit in a tower waiting for the reset to happen, rather than actively flying. When this occurs, it reduces the number of people defending the country without reducing that country's population in the arena; if the people who were just sitting in the tower would exit the arena, then that country's population would decrease, which would mean that a) the perk rides would get cheaper, and b) perk point awards for kills would increase.

For example, say all three countries had 100 people online, but one country was down to 5 fields. If 50 people from that country just kick back and wait for the reset, their country pays and earns perk points as if there were as many people flying for their country as there are for the others. If those 50 people logged out of the arena, then their countrymates who were flying would pay and earn perk points based on the 50 people who were flying -- half the number who were flying for the other two countries.

Every person who just sits in a tower rather than flying costs their country perk points, both in making perk rides more costly and in reducing perk awards. The incremental cost of a single person disappears in the noise; the total cost of fifty or more people is not.

You may find my opinions stupid, and thats your right. But it is also my right to have my opinion. I dont have a problem if you are sitting there posting a mission or plotting your next power move but when you check back an hour later and the same names are still there in red it is annoying when i have to pay 470 perks to fly a 262. At least my whines are about something tangible, not the fact that i am a poor pilot.

There's a simple solution...

Find out what tower they are camping at.  Take out the acks at that base and then just straff the tower.

That should show em.

No I dont believe it. First thing I note when a country starts to lose is the number of people that log off period. On the winning side they are usually taking part in victory. There may be a few that have to log out but decide to hit the afk radio button instead. Thats their right but one thing you cannot argue is that it costs you perks. The guys that are afk are the ones that have fought to get you to that point. Its the defectors that dont know any better and come over to gain perks that are to blame. I wouldnt think of asking anyone not to defect because of perk costs. Their defection makes the victory easier and quicker. If you really want perks that bad just fly the planes from earlier in the war with higher eny. I have found that ten quick easy flights in a hurricane will earn a 262 if you can just succeed with it.

That must be a Knight or Bishop problem.  Rooks haven't won a map recently, so we haven't been losing any reset perk points.

Complaining about getting cheated out of perk points is like complaining about the luxury tax - the only people it affects are the ones who are rich in resources already.

Or an FM2, or a Spit V, or a 109, or a birdcage Corsair, or a 190A8.  I've had success in all of them, getting to a positive K/D ratio in each plane before realizing that I don't fly perk rides because its too frustrating losing a C-hog to a lost UDP connection.

25 perkies?  I have over 8 thousand of em... I couldn't care less.   I have been playing awhile and I have only seen maybe 2 resets ever.   They were a pain in the butt so far as I was concerned... they left people stranded and interupted gameplay.

I don't think that in light of the 25 perk points.... My calling these guys attention strarved strat potatos is too strong.
