OK, so my parents are letting me finance my own car, and I think I've chosen the right car for me. Went to miniusa.com and designed my own '03 Mini Cooper. All I'm waiting on is parent's approval for order and my birthday to finance it.
This is going to be fun...:)

LMAO!
I thought teenagers were supposed to want gas-guzzling hot-rods, not "cute" cars.

Miko-
Funniest line I've seen on the BBS today, and there have been a few gems.
-
6.5 on the car
9.5 on the lipstick joke
-
Ouch...oh well...that's what I get for having different tastes! :D:D
No no...the car I've chosen is all silver...not the green. Though I don't know if I can find a lipstick color to match that...
Any ideas? :D

MY EYES MY EYES MY EY...... :D :D  :p

I have a 2002, Indy Blue with a US flag on top.
You'd think the car was a "chicks" car, but it isn't. I explained to a friend that either couples like it or men do. Not as many women do (well... teenagers do... but that doesn't cout). He didn't believe me until we took a trip to Seattle to see a ballgame. Every interction someone would roll down the window and ask about the car. It was usually a guy, usually a redneck or on a rare occasion... it was a couple.
Basically, people will call it a chicks car because that's what the bug is and that's how most think of the Mini. Drive one and you'll find its anything but.
I'd recommend getting the non-superchaged (the one you have pictured) and getting as many options as possible, though I don't like the sunroof setup. I don't know if leather is necessary either, as the stock interior is pretty comfortable and cleans up nice.

Deja, you're gayer than gay is gay. Nice car tho', you should bring it down sometime. I doubt I could ever shoe-horn my fat bellybutton into it, but I'd like to see one up close.

You'll fit SOB... its actually roomier than it looks. Maybe I can head down next Saturday and check out the new pad... then we could do lunch.

IMHO "British Racing Green" would fit just fine in a Mini Cooper.
-
Cool, shoot me an email. Would that be the 18th?
SOB

That would be the 11th. I'm gonna be in Vegas on the 18th. I'll e-mail ya.

I have to confess...
If they didn't sell WRX's in the USA I probably would be driving a BRG Cooper S right now. I was scarred for life by attending my dad's SCCA events as a child.
-
What is that, a car for midgets?

There's actually nothing mini about them. They are pretty huge hatchbacks, like the VW Golf. I think they are pretty close to 3000 lbs.
My 86 Civic Si was about 2000 pounds even. Now that was a small car. But it still hauled my 6-4 bellybutton around quite nicely. :)
-
Correction they are about 2700 lb. Still pretty big for a hatch. About the same weight as a mid-60's Mustang or Camaro.
-
I'd have it British Racing Green, with the UK Union Flag on top and white stripes on the bonnet (=hood).
I'd definitely get the supercharged version if I could afford it.
BTW the Mini is the North American Car of the Year.
-
DJ how did you get the flag on the roof?
-
I'll keep my Fairlane. I want something that won't explode into a million bits of shrapnel when someone runs into me.
Cute looking car I guess but it reminds me of a 78 civic.

It came with it (I bought it slightly used). But you can order them from the dealer. They cost about $200. You can get a Union Jack, US Flag or a Checkered flag.

Heya Marine! :)
Check out this UBB, ask any questions you have about them here:

I'd forgo the leather and spend the money on Wet Okole wetsuit neoprene seat covers - sportier and more practical.
I've convinced my wife that the Mini is going to be our next car - in 4 years. We had just bought a new Xterra when the Mini started coming across the pond to the US, so no new vehicles until the ones we have start giving us trouble.
I think the Mini has the potential to be the next street racing machine, certainly moreso than the new Civic Si that's out. The original ones used to turn in impressive performance on the road racing tracks where turning ability was more of a factor than flat-out high end speed.

Seriously, Coopers are cool cars. Enjoy it before you have kids and have to upgrade to a station wagon...
My friend is a Miata fan. He spent as much money upgrading it as it originally cost. It now has an engine half as powerfull as my 40 ton T-72 tank used to. If a passenger is not carefull to sit really tight, one gets whiplash injury just pulling out of the driveway...

This is true of my wife... The first time that mini commercial (the one with the English traffic cop) came on, I remarked what a cool car it was... she turned up her nose and sniffed... eeewwww.

GRUNHERZ: Your T72?
Not is the sense that I owned it. The one I was issued for the duration of my military service...

The compression on the supercharged version is significantly lower than the standard. Your best bet is to buy a standard and modify it. Try to do things that add performance throught the RPM curve... cause the supercharger doesn't do squat for low end torque (drive em both and you'll see what I mean).
Oh.. DO NOT GET THE AUTOMATIC!

i was wondering if Rip would pop in since this is in reality a "BMW" thread :D (you all know they make the Mini now right?)
<--- sadly confesses to slightly want 1 of the turbo ones in green... but $23,500 US is too much for a suped-up Geo Metro.
-
I told my wife she would look good in one. Like, green, non supercharged, sunroof, white stripes, droooooool.
She thinks it's an awful car. What's with women these days? I have a few more years to manipulate her though.

Yeah, Funked's bellybutton is 6'4" wide so he needed a bench seat. The Cooper only comes with bucket seats.
-
I actually got interested when my dad said a friend at work had ordered one. I went online and found the Mini website: Mini USA (http://www.miniusa.com)
There, I designed the car, made it the way I like it, and am wiating until I can get approval. Don't ask me why I decided on this car, but I do remember hearing the safety records are top notch.
Besides...I've always liked Minis...:D
-
The mini web site is one of the best I've seen. Be sure to check out the commercials and look at the form for their mailing list (don't have to submit it) under "gender".

I removed the front seats and I just sit in the back and drive.

Texace.. you ever go through with this?

Don't forget to dress up like Mr. Bean.
-
Sadly, no...I had gone to the dealer and sat down and talked with a guy. We ran some numbers and it looked like I was going to be sitting pretty. I went home that night thinking I had the car...all I had to do was wait for the credit approval to come back and we'd get the car.
Turns out, the credit approval was denied. Apparently my grandfather never filed on the payments I made to him like he said he would. He told me it was going to improve my credit and make it easier to get a car down the road. And why did he never do this?
"I forgot...sorry about that..."
I'm still chasing the car...working my bellybutton off getting the money back that I lost through other venues. Plan to take out a loan from the bank and just repay it without spending the money. Parents tell me that will get my credit back up.
Oh well...easy come easy go...

I do. But I don't really see how that has any bearing on this thread.
