Forgot to mention this the other day :) My dad got me a ride in a T-6 Texan for Christmas. I haven't taken the flight yet, but it's an hour long flight and I'll get stick time :D
Anybody know about the flight charactoristics of thos birds? They used them for combat training didn't they? I'm hoping to do some barrel rolls and cuban eights :D

Vermillion got a ride in an AT-6 a couple of years ago and it completely transformed him from Coke-bottle-lensed computer geek to square-jawed hero-type. The hour-ride package is the top of the line selection, the vintage wine of the AT-6 adventure.
The AT-6 was based on a plane originally designed to be a two-seat dive-bomber, but when they tried to retro-fit the armour and self-sealing tanks after production, the aircraft was overweight so the design was changed to be a trainer. After the war, some were actually fitted with rockets and small bombs as counter-insurgency weapons. The AT-6 handles like a front-line WW2 fighter and was used for air combat training up until the 70s (or maybe the '80s) when the South African air force started retiring its fleet.
I would imagine the handling would be similar to a light SBD Dauntless or a heavy F6F Hellcat. Maybe real close to an F4F Wildcat.

Beg, borrow or steal money to begin ground school soon after Udie. You need a hobby to keep you busy, flying would be a great way to use your spare time!
Congrats on the ride, and let us know how it went!
