So there you are. . . approaching the biggest furball you have seen in weeks. The numbers are even the fight is below you.
The cons of the planes start popping up as they come into range. An La7, a few P51s, a bunch of spits, hurricanes, niks and zeros - even a P38. Then you see the 190s and 109s. Then a typhoon, a 205, and some USN Blue steel. Just about everything has come to the party.
You tighten up the grip on your stick and then make your decision... Sure they all must die, but..
Who dies first?
For me . . its gunna be the tiffy. I have a real affinity to those 4 20s landing that first snapshot and ending a would-be great furball for me all too quickly.
-
The Niki, despise 'em.
-
Niki then La7
-
The little stray one that doesn't think anyone sees him and he has no friends to check6 him.
He's mine.
-
[list=1]
-
The one with the most alt. Then the n1ks. I have to say I enjoy popping 109s a great deal but I prefer to draw those fights out and savour the kill ;) If I could only kill one type of airplane it would be 109s.

Whoever has the most E, or is in a position to gain E on me the soonest as I dive in. After that, If I'm in a turnfighter, then the best turnfighter. If I'm in an e fighter, the best e fighter that can out turn me at a similar e state or out accelerate me at a similar e state. Or the target that I can get a good 6 o'clock saddle without being dragged too deep into the enemy side of the furball, if one exists.

First is whoever shows me thier 6. Failing that any nik or la7 I see. After them if I have a choice it will be any spit I see. By then my B&Z plane has flown tru furball and I am getting alt to come back and start all over again. Oh and on the zoom I look for any B&Z planes trying to leave the party. Ok now yous cant leave.
-
I would pick them off based on E and alt. I would track the La7 most aggressively and watch for any hard climbing 109s.
For a money shot take a swipe at the big P38 truck and ignore the willey yaks until they become a threat...
-
190
109
-
Me :)
-
I look for LA-7's entering the fight too slow and P-38's that are going vertical.
-
All else being equal:
1) La7 - because they are the ones who can run me down, and I hate La7 drivers
2) NiK1 - because I hate Nik drivers (even though I take one occasionally)
3) Spits - because I hate spit drivers
4) P51 - because I hate pony drivers
5) everything else in no particular order (and usually because there are so few of them compared to the above listed planes)
:D
-
P-51D... or I just blow on past all of it and get that IL-2 that is rolling on the runway. :D
-
Id kill the cons that are chasing that 1 friendly... Those are the easiest..
-
will Always aim for the F4u/Jug/flap-turn fighter in my Dora-o-death :D i just love those big targets and zoom them all day long :D
after that the La7's that are low and turning are always good food.
oh well my 2¢
-
Nik
La7
Spit
Whick ever is closest gets my attention first.
If there are cherry picking 190's and P51's about I'll play their game and get those first if given a chance.
-
Whoever turns their six toward me first. Or whoever looks busy chasing one of my teammates. All else being equal though, I'd go for an La-7 any day.
-
Hurricane
-
The one that looks to be the most dangerous. The faster con with the greatest altitude or overall energy. If all are about even I kill the one with the best zoom climb. After that its the one I can kill without expending energy or position.
-
Me :D
Seriously tough, ALL Spits must die ... dweeb-7's too.
-
It would depend on what I was flying.
If I was in a Typhoon myself, I would want to remove the El-Gay-7 first.
If I was in a zero, I would be most concerned with the Other Zeros...
etc.

The Chute!
-
The setup as stated is that they're lower. I'm in a 1-D the vast majority of time and I like to come in from the "side". Any plane that gives me a window from his countrymen for a diving slash attack were I'm headed towards the O'club on pullout is bread n' butter.
If it happens to be a Lag ?? That's a bonus :)
Co-alt is similar but really dependent on the situation. Co-alt the hair catches on fire...
Bummer :D
-
I attack none of them as I'm flying a fomation of 17s at 19k on my way to bomb the enemy base to shut the furball down.
-
cant wait to hear Levi's choice.... "uh I'll just swoop in and get them all in one pass:) "
Durr
-
Who dies first? Usually ME.
-
I fly the 205 alot, and I gotta say that it's ALWAYS the 205 that gets it first:p

I usualy just blow through in a p38 and wach half of them break off and chase me for the easy wide ars 38 kill they think there gonna get.:D if i servive first pass,i go for the other b&z,rs,
-
Anything with a perk tag ALWAYS comes first. Then onto the usual la7, n1k2, spit.
-
The first one to die would be Furious. Because I would wait until the guy chasing him wasted his energy killing Fur. Then I would swoop in, kill the bastard, and fake an apology to Fur for not getting there in time.
-
The Yak, because I love seeing a Yak die to my own Yak guns.
I WILL become the best Yak pilot in this game, one Yakker at a time
-
I kill the guy goin fastest first.
Then i hope somebody shoots at the parade of guys chasin after us..
..ever notice how fast a furball turns into a parade when the numbers go against yah?
;)
-
Not one. They'll all run by the time I get within range anyways.
ack-ack
-
If bkhawk is flyin I look for the typhoon thats flyin strait cause hes busy runnin his mouth on ch1.
Other than that its the highest alt/E.

Whatever you all say, you're lying.
I know from personal experience that everybody (and I mean everybody) goes for the Mossie first.
There is just something about a Mossie that draws people towards it. There is nothing quite so desparately doomed as a Mossie with a bunch of La-7s, P-51Ds, Typhoons and Bf109s after it.
Who knows, maybe its the huge assed MOSS icon that draws notice. Maybe its the fact that its big and rare. Who knows.

P38, every time. Why?
I dunno...
-
P51 - maybe I'll be lucky and get a whine on channel 1?
-
Typhoon
There should be no other typhoon around mine except if they are friendly :)
-
Yak’s and 109’s. They die first or I make damn sure I know where they are.
-
whichever one happens to be slow enough at the time for me to catch.
spits soak up the least ammo also. 190's floppy fish their way through most of your ammo before they have the good grace to die.

Tempest.
then bkhawk would complain "Ki-61 can't catch my 550mph temp. He's cheating".
-
dosent matter to me, just what ever I get in range with is who I go for,but given a choice I would take out the bule planes first.
-
I generally go after the 109's first.
-
i would try the biggest targets first
FW and LA 7 gonna run and dive anyway
what karnak said mossie and p38 will be easiest to hit and wil cost u not that much energy.
There is is a bigger chance of one pas hit.
but first i have to send those fw and la dweebs to deck before they gonna cherry pick me. I cannot allow them to be level with me.

haha true true! Got 4 in a row this way once (had tracers off). Not been able to find that beauty of a setup agsin since though :(
-
uhh the ones still on the rwy
:)
-
P38, my gunnery sucks.
-
N1K always dies first and then LA7 second unless a known score potato is in the area then I find them first.
-
Tempest. then bkhawk would complain "Ki-61 can't catch my 550mph temp. He's cheating".
LMAO

I'd go for the E based plane with the highest energy state, which is not necessarily the one with the most alt. In a nice furball like you've described, you can set up on 3 or 4 options as you enter the fray. If my first choice evades, I conserve E by not moving aggressively to get him... move on to the next progression in my target list. Kind of like a quarterback surveying the field, the first choice may not give you what you want, but chances are that at least one of your choices will. Prepare for the assorted accusations you see people spewing at me on ch1.
"You are nothing but a cherry picker." "Pony dweeb!" "You suck Steve, you can't 1v1 at all!" Let's go to the DA, I'll kick your arse!."
Rinse and repeat
-
I would first write a powerful and moving letter home about honour and duty. I would open my canopy and tearfully fling it to the winds, wrapped in a plum blossom and addressed to fate.
Then I would go in and die immediately because this A6M2 is made of frickin rice-paper and attracts every head-on and snapshot possible.
The Collector <-- sucker for the zeke, dies often :)

The Zero was constructed of a lightweight aluminum alloy named "Extra-Super Duraluminum" (ESD), with the exception of fabric covered rudder and elevators. The aircraft's lightweight construction helped it achieve the performance goals specified by the IJN. However, the severe limits on weight ensured that the new fighter also lacked armor and self-sealing fuel tanks.

Its really subjective to what the situation is...but a good way to respond is I like to kill all the German iron first..A juicy BF110 is a bonus!!
-
Highest one of course! Fight from the top down.

Wisdom...the only real answer....
I'm curious bout the tiffie being 1st under any circumstances...it's a great ride...low and fast...if your the highest plane in FB it's no danger at all. All in all I'd be worried most bout the 205. Not because of the plane but the pilot. A 205 has a way of racking up the lumber under those conditions...not many will arget it and it's got nice evasive capabilities. Often it canhang in the middle top of the FB for a while...you go a couple turns to many and all of a sudden it's on your prettythang. F6 and Jug also come to mind....usually you know how the la7's, spits, 38's etc will play the game....it's the ones you discount that provide the free alterations to the air frame.
-
I didn't say my choices are based on good SA. They seldom are.
But in my experience ... of all the planes that surprise me to pieces - its the Typhoon. So - if I see an opportunity to down one - I'll take it before all others.
Of course, I suck. So don't put too much thought into my decisions.
:D
I'm not Leviathn. I will never survive a furball liek that. But, before I die, I'll be trying like hell to take a few of my favorite targets with me!
After the area is clear of Tiffies, though, I'll usually home in on a Nik - "Gods Gift to the Spit V" :)
-
the n1k for sure. Swagger can attest to that. ;)
me - "gawddammed niki got me again, Swagger! kill it!! kill it now!!!"
-
I perform a beautifull 180 and I run home.
-
i think chutes should come first.
-
Any plane involved in the fight that thought the 109 3k out wasnt really much of a threat.
-
Definately the Niki... cause even if your 2000 feet above him and he is doing 100MPH, he will still pull vertical and hit you.
Then the La7.
-
I always kill LA7's first while my E state is high. That way they can't run me down on my way home bingo fuel/ammo. My next choice is anything faster than my plane if flying an E fighter, or if in TnB plane anything that can outturn me.
Zazen
-
The ones with most alt first, then
La-7's
Spit's
P-51's
then Niks
This would be if I was flying the F6F for instance.

I'd come in and try for a rope, kill whoever I manage to draw up with me, then, since I'm a P38 pilot, half the furball would invariably go after me, because P38's are bandit magnets (fine by me, more kills :) ), so I'd drag one or two people safely away from the furball and trap them in a vertical stallfight.
As for who to target first... when I go hunting, I always find P51's particularly attractive, mainly because I always know I can beat them in a 38, they are nice and fragile, and they're annoying. The average Pony driver isn't a good pilot either, most likely a dweeb who flies it because he wants to be cool in the "Cadillac of the sky." The occasional skillful Pony pilot will provide a nice fight, but the 51 can't stand up to the 38 in the vertical, and most good Pony pilots will run once the advantage is lost.
All of the above also applies to LA-7's, who, like the 51, are dead in the water once speeds get low. I only find them dangerous if they're above me.
-
Kill every La7, climb, wait for more La7's, kill them again... repeat as necessary :)
-
hit the nik then the la7s then the tiffies (all horrible planes but there pilots are insane) then start taking out hurricanes and spits... leave the blue steel till last there no threat in a furball really...
-
As a Cherry picker, I strike at targets that present themselves. However, I try to keep an eye out for La-7s that present themselves.
-Sik
-
The goon (if it's too late: troops) or anything that carries bombs.
-
As long as my E state is real high, anything that looks like I can setup a good gun solution on. Good solution meaning I can curve in and hit him slightly planform on his six, surprise him and zoom out. #1 thing I'm looking for is someone who looks like they are going to stall out soon.
Course this is all really ideal and doesn't happen near as much as I like :D.
-
The first plane I target in any situation furball or no is F-4U`s of any kind, then Jugs, then the easy ones :p
-
if all low all similar e states i'd go (niki-hurri-a6m-spit 5) (spit 9 yak laffers, g2's) (then the e-fiters) , , , prob dead by then but what the hey. :)
-
I would boom down with a ton of speed...at the last second my target will either juke, or get killed which blows my pass....yet like a dweeb I scan for one I MIGHT get. Ah...there he is fast enemy con directly under me. I roll my plane, probably do a spilt S and about half way into it will be apparent that I have WAY to much E and have compressed. Flailing my wings like a dork, and chopping throttle I end up smacking right into the ground with a wet sounding "Thunk".
Hence the term "Luted"
crashing into the ground like a dweeb = Luted

Depends on what Im flying. If im in my P38 its the LWs. If im in my 109 its the P51s that die. If im in my P51 it will be my as I lose my wings diving
-
DEFINITELY THE LA7s
