I'm trying to avoid calling a ticket in on this to our help desk since it takes them a long time to respond normally...
On one of my 3 boxes,I'm getting an error whenever I open open Internet Explorer, but its not limited to that, even if I open My Computer, or do a search for Error logs, I get this error, then it shuts the window down:
"Explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log has been created."
Problem is, I can't view the error log! LOL!
Scan for viruses, none. Deleted all unused files, defragged, nothing has helped. Its account specific, as logging in as a different user cannot duplicate the error.
Any clues?
No new software has been downloaded. Virus protection program and firewall did not detect anything funky.

What service pack are you running? Perhaps the problem would be resolved by updating to SP4.

Umm unless you have connections :) SP4 isn't out yet.
You're probably screwed, you need to run SFC.EXE i feget the switch. If you can re/install IE 6 and that might resolve it too. I'd go the IE6 route first...
Errrr: Never mind the above, just rename/recreate your profile...
undersome one else's profile or the local admin account, go to
\documents and settings\ripsnort.old
then log in it'll create a new profile and hopefully viola...

best bet is to reinstall IE first. (as stated)
after that you probably have to reinstall the OS... worked for me the one time I had that happen.

I've seen this before with NT4. You should try resetting your profile. Copy your profile to a safe place, then get your network admin to delete your profile from the network and your machine, then log back in. Copy any special data back from your old profile.

I've had this too. It was intermittent so I didn't work that hard to fix it. It started after an IE upgrade. It went away eventually when I reinstalled Winblows and has not returned.

Since it's only happening with his profile I suggest just recreating it, and then take it from there

Deleted and re-created my user profile. All fixed.

Just a thought, but you said that you couldn't view the error log. You should be able to do this from another machine on the LAN - or even over the Internet.
