I had a cable modem installed by cable company. When they were through the computer was a mess.In the end i had to call the Dell tech line. They couldnt figure it out,and in the end had to do a total dump and restart from system resource disk.Dell helped me through this ,as I know little about computers. When all was said and done i loaded AH.I can not get it to start,I get the following messages
C:\Program Files\HTC\Aceshigh\aceshigh.exe
A device attached to the system is not functioning
When i exit from this i get this one
Error starting program the Aces High .exe file is linked to missing export D Sound.DLL:12
Are these related or 2 different probs?I am dieing to try cable on AH for first time. Can any one help?I tried downloading AH again and installing and reloading soundblaster live

I'll take a s.w.a.g (Scientific Wild bellybutton Guess), and say that you need to update your sounddrivers.
Also, since you loaded from your Dell recovery disk, I suggest you go to the Dell site and download the latest drivers for everything. Specially if your computer is more than a month or so old.
Good luck!

Suites you right for buying a brand computer.
You're cursed!
Download and install DirectX9.0.

Thanks Rotorian i have been updating drivers as i go.Mrsid2 you are a genius.Thanks.And i wish i could build my own puter. :)

<~~i had the same problem with my buddies computer,,its a older dell,,,i got a dell my self,,but i ran into this problem with his computer,,,i would say,,its a 95% chance its the sound card or drivers...5% its your 3d card,,i put money its your sound card,,,do you got as turtle beach sound card?,,or on board sound card?,,if so,,try to reload sound drivers,,,and if that dont work,,go buy a sound blaster live,,but i had that same problem with his computer,,,d.sound missing link,,,,i replaced the sound card,,,all problems are gone now,,,and make sure your sound card dont have a c-media chip in it,,,,if it does,,,it wont aces high right,,it will give you errors and freeze alot

Dlitz there are always options for 'brand' computers..
I'm sure there are plenty of small resellers in your area who offer installation services.. At least here you can buy 'box of the house' from almost any respectable company. They custom build it for your needs from bulk components which not only saves you money but ensures your computer doesn't have any brand customized drivers that force you to use the old drivers from the brand web site.
Life is so much easyer when you can d/l and use anything you find from the manufacturers own sites.

only one problem with building your own computer,,if the mother board goes bad,,,or memory,,hard drive,,3d card,,,prossesor,,,tower power supply,,,all that stuff,,you have to bite the bullet after 90days,,lol,,with a dell,,you get a nice 4 year warenty<~~only reason i got one,,i got tired of fighting my old home built computers,,lol,,plus at the time,,to get the same preformance building it my self,,would of costed me close to the same,{at the time pentuim 4s were spendy},with out a huge fat warenty,,,anything goes bad in my cpu,,i call,,,and they send me new stuff,,easy as that,,,lol
but building your own can be fun too,,i built my last machine,,and for 6 years,,i constanly upgraded it,,started with a cheesy 2mb card,,and 3 gig hard drive,,lol,,,and in the end,,i had 2,,monster 2 link cards in it,,24mb now,,lol, got good frame rates for a old machine,,i used it on aces high till a year ago,,,but if you dont wanna hassle with it,,,buying a new one is best,,but if you wanna fiddle with your computers,,its good to build your own,,i got both my self,,lol
-
Umm Hyena bulk hardware has full 1 year warranty.
Secondly, I wouldn't exchange a 3+ years warranty to a machine that causes me trouble from day 1.
-
ya,,but i have had prossesors burn out in over a year,,a year aint very long for some things to go wrong,,its hard to beat a 4 year waranty,,but i know what your saying,,i would give it back in a year too,,but i seen things go bad all the time,,,somtimes year,,somtimes never,,,computers are unpredicitble long term,,,4 year waranty will fix any thing,,,,but it is fun to build your own computer<~~i did that
but i wanted to devote some of my life to the real world,,instead of working on a machine all the time:)
but i allways end up working on my buddies computers anyways,,which got zero waranty and they have zero know how about a computer,,so i fix there machines all the time,,from sound cards,,too 3d problems,,,its best for people who dont know anything about a computer,,to buy a good waranty,,because if they dont know how to reboot or work on there computers,,they shouldnt have one with out it,,lol
some computers are good,,some are bad,,,mine is 2 years old now,,problem free,,,never had anything go wrong with it,,and still runs with the best of them,,and i even have the spendy and much hated pc1066 ram bus memory in it,,lol my old computer i made my self,,i replaced everything in it a few times over ,,even prossesor,,but i kept it runing with care for 6 years now and still runing,,ethere way you do it,,there both good

A year old processor is good for update already. Wouldn't cry after it..
Besides if CPU burns it's 90% certainly due to some abuse like faulty installation. Any guarantee won't cover that.

Besides if CPU burns it's 90% certainly due to some abuse like faulty installation. Any guarantee won't cover that
yes they will cover it,,,it covers processor and all work done on your computer by the company,,.,if anything goes bad in your computer from the factory it will be fixed with out any cost to you,,including processor, hard drives and motherboards<~~unless you stuck a screwdiver threw the middle of the processor,,,,,or filled the computer full of mud and water,,,then maybe they would void your waranty
you dont need to upgrade a prossesor every year,,thats called upgrade disease,,lol,,you dont need 3.0 gighurt processor to run games or anything,,its over kill,,,my processor is 2 years old<~~going on 3 soon,,its a 1.4 pentuim 4,,with 500mhz on mother board bus speed,,ram bus memory,,and i bet money it will run any game there is still,,,because even the best games right now,,only need about 600meg cpu to run them,,,heck i can still play aces high on my old 200meg cyrix,,lol
most processors die from heat,,,being ran on a hot day with out air conditioning,,or cpu fan dies,,ethere way,,it will be fixed under waranty,,just got to be smart,,and say,,i dont know what happend to it!!,,hhehe,,play dumb to the techs,,and act like you dont know anything about computers,,lol,,and they will send you all the parts you need,,,just got to send your old ones back to them
-
Hyena what I'm saying that in the extremely rare event of CPU burning up on you it's no big deal to update it after 1 year.
And that thing you said about CPU power is not quite up to date. Latest games require a lot more horsepower than Aces High for example. Mafia and upcoming doom III being prime examples.
Off topic: Your sig..
I think it should read No matter where you go, there you are!
Just thought you might want to fix that.
-
only updating i will have to do,,is vid card and memory for the next 2 years,,memory in my computer is upgradable too 3 gigs,,,that will run anything up and coming,,and would run doom 3 two times over,,what kinda memory you runing?,,ddr?,,with out proper memory,,your cpu wont ever run as fast as it needs too anyways,,,best to upgrade it 3 years on cpu,,,i know my old computer lasted for 6 years,,because i kept the memory above the standers
i run ghost recon island thunder,,,medal of honor,,mech 4,,ww2 online till i stopped paying them<~~those games hog up the info,,,all runs like butter on my allmost 3 year old processor,i would rather spend money on memory than a faster cpu,,i guess people will argu computers till the end of time,,,but if your not runing the proper stuff for a pentium 4,,its worthless to have a 3.0 gighurt procsessor and sdram in a pentium 4,,ewwwwwww<~~my cheese pentium 4 with rdram will trash on such systems just because of proper memory
naw,,nothing needs to be fixed,,just fine how it is:) hehehe
-
Hyena sorry to break this to you, but if you upgrade your displayadapter to GeforceFX or Radeon9700 for example, your CPU will be able to feed 50% of required cycles at maximum.
That means that your performance will be very CPU limited and the benefit seen from hardware upgrades will be diminished.
Computers are not single parts in a box, they're whole functioning systems where all parts have to be in balance.
I wouldn't even dream of using the same CPU for 3 years, I recycle them after they get outdated by ~40%. All my old boxes have gone for internet surfing to relatives etc.
My first computer serves as a bank connection even today at my parents.
Sure it takes a bit more money, but this way I very rarely come to the situation that I have software on my computer which my hardware cannot run properly. Even now it still happens sometimes, since I never update to the fastest possible to keep cost reasonable.
-
and with out the right memory your processor wont run full speed anyways,,,lol,,heck a 2.0 gig pentium 4 with sd ram,,looses about 500 megs of power just because of its memory,,,you saying 3 gig of memory in my computer wouldnt run that card?,,it would run that card how it is right now,,lol,,i got a geforcefx card now,,i installed a geforce ti4600 ddr in a 800 meg atholon,,and it runs everything under the sun, smooth as butter on every game,,,sure in a few years,,ill have to upgrade,,but no need to,,im allready runing 3 times as much power than i realy need for any game
after a while you will get upgrade disease and keep dumping too much uneeded money ,,when you can wait a few years for big advancements and get your parts cheaper,,i am not going to sit here and argu cpus anymore,,you only need to upgrade when it is needed because of poor preformance,,as it is,,im runing way above what is needed
-
That's pretty cool Hyena especially considering GeforceFX is not even released yet.
Where did you get a pre-production sample? You run a hardware site or something?
And I never mentioned anything about sdram, nobody has used it ever since there were faster alternatives.
Those adapters will RUN just fine even with PII300 and sdram. The PERFORMANCE however will not be anywhere near the capabilities of the adapters. They will be CPU limited.
-
no,,i ment geforce grafics card,,not the fx sorry:P,,lol
-
and you all so remember the more memory you run,,the less your processor has to work and less processor you need,,because it saves more info on the memory,,,it works both ways,, only memory that will go up too 3 gigs,,is rdram,,spendy,,but its the fastest and best out there,,if you aint runing it anyways,,your lacking speed anyways,,,i bet my rd system will out run all the games for the next year,,,500mhz on motherboard bus speed,,and plenty of procsesor too run any card coming out<~~still pretty hot for a allmost 3 year old computer
and i never mention anything about processor upgrades ethere,,lol,,just tring to help a guy out,, i seen the d sound problem before,,its a easy fix,,,thats all,,not argu about upgrades,,,you jumped off track too,,,lol,,went from waranty,,too processors,,so i thought,,why not memory next,,it was bound to come up,,lol,,,, good argument,,,but i dont beleve in spending on upgrades till its needed,,thats all,,nothing more:)
