Put a toughened glass over the valve covers and you'll have the coolest livingroom table ever :)

Its not $55,000 worth of cool right now. Maybe if it was in running condition and ready to put into a Spitfire or Pony, but not as is. Although some refurb guy will most likely have a go at it with a slightly reduced price privately.

He want's $55'000 for it? What a dickhead. Maybe for $5000 it MIGHT be a cool item. But jez, it might be completely seized, needing hundreds of hours of work plus parts.

Still would be nice to have... :)

Piss you off?

I read somewhere that boat racers where going to kill the warbirds scene cause they where getting all the merlins and running them in the dumb bellybutton boats.

Just look at this jerkoff!  Those could be better used in an Aircraft!

Placing them in boats is probably the only reason there are ones out there still running.

A Merlin isn't exactly the engine of choice in world filled with jets and turbines.

I knew a Guy that Owned a F4u..yes thats right..A REAL ONE.  He Blew an Engine and bought a replacement from a South American Country.  It was in very bad condition like this one and he paid $65,000 for it.  He thought it was a great deal.....

Hydroplane boat racing is the only reason you can still find parts for theses engines. How ever since they started using turbines instead of pistons engines the fact that they are not using them anymore will make most of the tooling disapear. Once the tooling is gone you can forget about the engines.
