Title: A little food for thought
Post by: Widewing on January 13, 2003, 11:50:39 AM
A little food for thought:

I have noticed that from time to time, players are forced to give up their account due to financial woes. Be it the loss of a job, sickness or some other unexpected emergency, the hobby money simply dries up and they have to quit as priorities sap their disposable income.

This is really sad, simply because their hobby, and often primary method of relieving stress, is taken away by circumstances, usually beyond their control.

In the past, several players have stepped up to the plate and made sure that a player stuck in that situation doesn’t have to sacrifice their hobby. Using the “pay it forward” method, people who have been helped need not repay anyone. When they have the resources to spare, they can simply help the next guy under the financial gun, so to speak.

I’m sure many squads do this already. I know that no member of the =Ghosts= need surrender his hobby for financial reasons, as the rest of us would make darn sure his account was paid to date. Seriously, what’s $15 a month spread out over 30 guys? A lousy 50 cents.

Yet, I see some guys who have had to cancel, people who are fixtures in this game. Why does this continue to happen? Especially when all it takes is a phone call to HTC and a nearly painless expenditure to keep a player going while they get themselves back on their feet. The recipient need not know who pitched in, and HTC will call them and inform them that their account is paid or tell them to re-register. You see, HTC doesn’t want to lose them either.

Folks, let’s not forget these people. It can happen to any one of us.

My regards,

Widewing

Sounds good.. considering I am one of those people.  I would gladly fly for any squad that was kind enough to pay for my account, and I can be a pretty handy wingman if you ask some people. ;)

Well Lazer, I checked with HTC. Your back balance has been paid. They inform me that your old user name is unlocked and available. So, if someone is willing to chip in $15, or you can afford it, you can be be back today. Albeit you must register again. Call Joanne at the office.

Someone must like you!

My regards,

I can relate.A long time back when I first started flying in 99 I had to drop AH due to a sudden drop in expendable $ flow.Hajo, old AW wingman that he was paid up 6 months of AH for me.Thank the gods for good friends. What was unjustifiable for me at the time hardly made him blink.Someone else footed 2 months that I never found out who it was.

I am one of those few people that had to cancel my account due to financial problems, (IE buying a new house). I pinch pennies so much that Lincoln says "ouch" lol. Should just be temporary, but for now,  "I am a 'po white boy" lol.

Well, the thing is, all dues would be repaid by me.  I am almost positive I would end up wining some money in this contest thing HTC has going on, and I would be willing to pay 50% of whatever it would be I do win, 50 or 100$, But I just need the help getting started.  In april I will have my job back again, and Will be able to pay on my own.  I know I must sound like a begger ATM, but like widewing said, AH is one of my biggest hobbies, and its not easy to keep away from it ;)

Doc,

You left the game due to burnout, but if your issue is financial, I would be glad to take car of a few months in the spirit of old 109 rivalries so I can hear your banter in squad channel again.  ;)

Let me know.

Yep... I was wondering that there is still something missing on my 6... And now I know what it was... There was 1 less P-38 there all the time...

I guess things will get back to normal soon... It was getting a bit frustrating sometimes...

Glad to have you back Lazer! <S>

It is nice to have friends.... and big to all involved in this comeback!

It is nice to have friends...

It is not the 1st time I witness this attitude in here, a nice change from everyday's endless rambling.

Nice to know us humans are still going somewhere :)

Don't forget that you can also take old joysticks/rudders/computer parts etc that are collecting dust and pass that along as well.

Hell, if it were up to me everyone would have a cougar/ch pro pedal setup ;)

So true  LOL, but ya gotta admit, seeing this kind of behaviour is comforting, seeing smackheads beg is distressing.

to those guys willing to dig a bit deeper to help their mates through a rough patch.
I am one of the lucky ones who has had squaddies send me hardware to keep my old dinosaur PC stumbling along just fast enough to handle the pace.

Humans are so wierd.....we can be so selfish and cold at times, yet openly generous at others......I wonder why that is.
