Just wanted to compare my progression through the planeset of AH with everyone elses, see if there is a trend in fighting style and what planes folks take.
1) Spitfire (All I knew how to do was TnB, the Early Days)
2) P-51 (Just an Uber plane couldn't get over its speed I could actually live through a fight! This was a new concept, Running.)
3) 109-g10 (Loved the Climb Rate, instead of running I climbed away)
4) Yak (Learned the Nose guns so well from g10, needed a more all around plane this fit the bill)
5) P47-30 (Couldn't stand the little ammo in Yak, led here, great high speed characteristics)
6) 205 (Needed something with Cannons, and was in the Perkie Mood too, for 262)
7) P47-11 (Liked the P47-30, but needed Perkies, 205 didn't wow me)
8) 190-D9 (Uber speed plane aswell, but had Cannons which made me take it over the 51)
9) 190-A5/A8 (The Roll Rate made me fall in love with these planes, learned many ACM, especially the oh so fun overshoot kill)
10) P47-30 (Again, loved those big guns, but now with a few more ACM in my arsenal this was a good plane!)
11) Assorted Planes didn't stick to just ONE plane
12) P-38 (I think I've found my bird, this plane has it all! I don't know why I was never succesful in it before. Its a very capable deadly plane with the one of the most devistating gun package I have ever been behind.)
Flew plenty of other planes but these are the main notable ones which I learned something new.
Would Like to see how some of the ace's progressed and what is their preferred ride.

me
1) spitfire
2)yak 9t
3hurri2c...works for me only thing that has changed is my style with it
-
- NEVER flew a flight sim
- CO had me learn ACM's and manuevers in C.205
- next was the 109's .. mostly g6 and g10. learned that alt and E are your best friends.
- 190-A5 because i couldn't handle the Dora @ high alt. still got suckered into low turn fights.
- Dora Dora Dora. a comming of age. i was determined to get this ride down.
- even more Dora! im up to a 2.215 k/d in it and growing. :D
oh well my 2¢
-
Go back to 1 and fly it right :) Just kidding.
It does seem the last lesson many learn is that all a/c are energy fighters, you dont TnB because you are in a A6M5, you TnB if and when thats the best course of action to take (usually the last).
For me, I hardly fly MA, and so the rides are dictated by the events I fly, but I think we all went through the same kind of learning experience.
-
In AH my progression has been:
Zeke - There was only the green one when I joined.
Spit IX
Seafire
F4U D
FW190 D9
FW190 A5
P51D
P51B
F6
I love my F6 these days.:)
-
my learning curve
1.) spit IX - first couple of tours
2.) 190a8 - enjoyed this plane back in 1.01.. was the first b n z plane i flew
3.) 190g10 - once i learned not to fly with gondolas.
4.) P47d30
5.) P47d25
6.) P47d11
7.) now I fly just about everything, with a few more sorties in Yak then others.
-
Back when I first played AH...way back...I got some great help from ghosth and lephturn in the TA. I took a while off, and came back again a year and a half ago.
1) Spit IX -- because that is what ghosth and lephturn suggested I start with
2) F4U-1D -- being a former Marine, I wanted to fly big blue
3) P38 -- liked the twin engines and gun package
4) P47D30 -- big fat plane....LOTS of guns and huge ord package
5) P51D -- Always loved the pony, and it's speed is better than the jug, with decent ord package. My current secondary ride...used for groun-pounding.
6) P51B -- My ride of choice now.
-
For me, my plane choices changed more or less according to the various tours and such.
Beta 1 - learning AH, flew P-51D most of the time
Beta 2 - Pony, Spit
Beta 3 - N1K
Tour 1, 2, 3, 4 - didn't fly much
Tour 5 - Zeke
Tour 6, 7 - P-38, P-47, Spit
Tour 8 - C Hog, Pony, Spit
Tour 9 - Zeke, Yak
Tour 10, 11 - Yak, Spit
Tour 12, 13 - F4U-1D, F6F
Tour 14 - D Hog, 190D-9
Tour 15 - 190D-9
Tour 16 - Yak-9t
Tour 17-24 - F6F
Tour 25 - P-47 (hanging out with Drex a bit too much this tour)
Tour 26-Present - F6F
Pretty much mostly been F6F since the CV's were introduced. Have been flying other planes here and there for a break from the F6F, but I keep going back to it. If ain't broke...
-
My timeline (or as much of it as I can remember):
(1) P-51D Mustang. I selected it for my inaugural flight because it was my favorite ride in Air Warrior. I got it up to 15k and went into a high speed stall and fought the stick all the way down to impact.
(2) Spitfire IX. It was the dweebfire in AW so I figured I should be pretty safe in it. I was, but GoFaster can't live by Spitfire alone.
(3) Hellcat. Another easy ride in AW and fairly easy ride in AH. Until I ran out of airspeed and flopped down into the water.
(4) BF109F, I think. Or one of the 109s. Maybe it was one of the G models. Anyway, in AW my 2nd favorite plane was the Bf109 there so I tried it in AH. I didn't do too well in it.
After that, I flew a succession of planes in the MA and experimented with a few more in the CT. The CT is a great place to learn ACM because the planesets tend to be midwar, so the planes are slower and more forgiving. Plus, the sides are a bit more balanced.
Lately I've been doing mostly ground vehicles and some F4U flying, just to change the pace a bit.
-
Hrmm.. lets see..
1. Niki.. Great guns! And speed to boot..geart first plane to learn and good stall character.
2.109-G10 Can we say 109K4!! Reminded me of AW 109K4 Great B&Z bird..
3. P-47D-11 Yahoo!! 8 .50's And the rest of the Jug family Killer plane in the right hands.
4. P-51B Short on guns but packs a good punch on unsupecting pilots..stalls alot less then the D.
5. See number 3! :D
-
38
Spitfire
Mossie
Typhoon
Mustang
P47-D30
Still fly them all on occasion. They're all quite capable planes. Can't seem to give any of them up.
-
you all have such long lists...........I feel bad about putting this up..
Spitfire V
there mine, the plane I'll be kicking your prettythang's in:D
-
I've been flying the LA-5FN since the beta. Fell in love with that little low level rocket. Only have two cannons and low ammo helped develop my gunning skills.
Now a days I fly whatever grabs me. This week it's the P-40E. :)
-
Ive progressed thru every plane in the arsenal and can say I die well in all of them
-
For me it was (in Air Warrior):
1. Spit9 because that was recomended to me;
2. Pony, because I'd just finished reading Chuck Yeager's autobio.
3. Hellcat
But as I became sort of proficient in multiple types I began to pick my ride to suit my mood that day and fly to the plane's strengths. I've been doing that ever since, in general. Although, I am the impatient type, and I won't run, no matter what I'm flying. I'd rahter die fighting, and give my opponent something to remember other than a long, boring chase.;)

HELL YAH:D
-
I try to fly everything a little bit, one tour I even flew a lot of hurricane D because it was fun to shoot that 40mm. The Tempest is by far the best plane in the game, I should fly it more but I get bored easy and need variety to keep things fun for me.

Well, I started in AW when there were only 8 birds to choose from. My first up I flew an ME109 and was immediatly Vulched by FRENCHY!!. (shakes fist at Frenchy!) He was driving an A26 with at least one gunner. I was the A-typical Newb and added about ten kills to his flight. I just knew I could get in the air and get a shot at him. NOT!
My CPID was McBr then, and I am sure that it graced many a pilots kill board in my first few weeks in AW. The Ammo load in the 109 in AW was weak so I started flying P38's. This was before I learned how to use flaps and my J-stick was a simple 2 button cheapo with no rudders. It was a humbling experience to say the least. I liked the P38 so I stuck with it. One day Juce, or something like that explained that I had to have rudders and use flaps in order to fly a P38 and that opened a whole new world. I went to my local Computer (no best buy back then)store and bought peddles, a throttle and a Brand New Thrustmaster. I learned, and mastered the 38, A26 (oversized 38 in AW) FW, and Hellcat in that order. I would fly Jugs and P51's on occasion as well. Dick Bong, and Erik Hartman's stories inspired my flight choices although the 109 was Hartman's favorite bird, he did fly FW190's on occasion. He said in an interveiw once that he liked the landing gear, speed, and roll rate but he thought that the 190 was ruined by all the firepower and prefered the handling of the 109. So
109F
190A8, D9
P38J
A26 Invader
F6F-4 in AW
Here, 190A8, D9, P47, P51, and P38....(sniff!) I miss my vader!

Hmm timeline.. I fly everything.. Depending on the mood.
But i started with an La7 for 3 tours when i was a newb then switched to P-51.
From the point i got familiar with the P-51D i had started flying Spits, a few Navy planes, P38, P47(D11), Zeke, and even a few LW rides :)
...A26 Invader...(sniff!) I miss my vader!
Stupid Invader pilots... I could never kill them in AW with my spit! :D

I flew spits and 190's in WB back in the day 2.0 or so (with p-38's and 47's for ground pounding).
Then I moved to F6F
Came to AH started with
La-7
F4u-1D
F6F
P-51
F6F
FM2
Looking to try a new ride have been trying out the yak and c205. I am very confident in the blue planes but looking for something new.
-
I was a buffer when I first started AH, but not full time. Joined the Mad Bombers lead by Sunchaser. I still remember my first squad HQ run. Shoot, I didn't know crap about crap when I first began... only a few models stuck out in my mind.
Lets see....
Tour 3 - B17s and B26 big time, some chog, spit 5, and panzer. (even two kills in a goon, hehe)
Tour 4 - 109 and chog
Tour 5 - B17 and chog.
Tour 7 - Spit 9 and 109g10.
Tour 11 - P47 and chog.
Tour 15 - La7, 109, chog.
Tour 18 - c205, Typhoon, La7, 109
Tour 21 - Yak, chog.
Tour 23 - c205, c202, 109, 190.
Tour 25 - 190, P51B, dhog.
Tour 29 - (awesome tour) Hurricane Mk1, IIc, and 109e4.
Tour 35 - FM2, P40, P47
Present - P47 all models, P51B/D, P40, and anything else.
Looking back, I never realized I flew chog so much. I still sucked half the time, but hey, its been fun so far :)

I remember my first flight in AH, I think it was Beta3. I dove from 20K in a P38 to attack a 10K Buff. Must have been a funny sight cause I missed completely and lawndarted. Then the 'vet' got on Ch1 and let everyone know that "that P38 that dove from 20K and augered was a stupid dweeb"......and I thought to myself, "Welcome to AcesHigh".
I tried the Pony my next flight and after getting it up to 22K I saw a B17 at 30K and decided to attack. I climbed and climbed then the B17 turned...I tried and stalled. Spinning down from 28K trying to pull out of it when at 13K my engine quit. I finaly regained control at 10K, spoted an airfield close by and deadsticked to a safe landing on the runway...after a 20k fall from the sky I felt lucky and proud of myself for making it back to earth safely.
Switched to the 109G series < my ride of choice in AW's Fightertown > but I found that AH's MA, even then, wasn't anything like Fightertown and that having a wingman was a must until I got my SA leggs back.
I tried the Spits but a pure TnB plane wasn't for me.
I tried the FW's but they seemed way too twitchy for someone hamfisted I gave it up after a week or so.
Went back to the 109G-10 and tried my hand at buff killing and failed miserably.
Then along came the La7, I flew it for almost 5 months straight and eventualy got bored with it. It was too easy for a n00b like me to get multiple kill sorties of 6 or more damn near every flight.
Then came the F6F-5...I was amazed at how much better the ballistics of the .50 cal were compaired to the La7's cannons and the multiple role capabilitiesof the Hellcat kept me in it until a few weeks ago.
Now I'm in a Typhoon as my main ride but will be checking out the 190's again sometime soon since I have more control of my right hand......in AH that is ;)
-
Spitfires: Got sick of the whining, put it down.
Bf109G-10: Certain people said it was vastly harder than Spits. It wasn't.
Fw190D-9: Very capable, easy to survive but a bit harder to get kills.
Typhoon Mk Ib: Good fighter, but it rolls like crap.
Spitfire Mk Vb: Too slow.
Mosquito Mk VI: Very leathal firepower, good attack capability but hard to survive in.

Pretty cool list so far.. hope we could snag some more vets in this thread, maybe the subject is scaring them off.
-BlckMgk
-
F4U-1C - With my dad, learned nothing except BFM
F6F-5 - As soon as it came out, learned E management and ACM
P47 - Learn more ACM and more E management
F6F-5 - Got mostly everything down
Now I fly a lot of different planes

they're afraid to admit to their dweeb days, :D
spit9 - to learn the fm. and they're fun.
all - just to see what they could do.
yak9u - because it's a spit9 without the stigma attached.
51d - got tired of not catching stuff in a spit/yak. i tnb in one too.
la7 - because i got tired of not catching stuff in a pony. i tnb in this one, too.
i've flown all planes enough to know their relative strengths and weaknesses. the 38 is the one plane i haven't yet bit the bullet on and died enough in to learn its quirks. the 109's are nice rides, but the gunnery... whoooo... maybe when i get a better system i'll fly 'em more.
-
Spit IX
La7
p51
F4u-D, C- hog
P38 - i just love this ride :D
-
1. P-51D
2. F6F-5
Mustang has been a lifelong favorite of mine but after talking to Mathman too much I started flying the hellcat.
There was month or so where I was flying LW rides too (mostly the 109F-4 and 190A5 but those were dark, dark months, to this day any thoughts of sheep, leather or StSanta brings an involuntary shiver down my spine.) but I don't like to think about those. :)
-
Over here mainly a F4U-1D, Spit V or Pony on occasion.
Over there 190's for a few years. Noobie in a 109F. Pretty much stuck to leather at WB. Too many goodguys, not enough badguys.
I sucked there too, but refused to be a wussie goodguy with thousands of others lining up for their Andy Griffith haircuts.
Learned the meaning of gangbang there. The only redeeming value being they looked reeeely silly with all those matching haircuts.. and they died real nice even up
-
First ride in an online sim was AH's P-38. I died, I also didn't know how the radio system worked and thought Channel 1 was the country channel.
Then I flew the 190 A-5 for a bit.
Then someone pointed out how good the La-5FN was (this was before La-7 came out).
Then I flew La-7 for a few months.
Then I flew Yak-9U and have done for almost a year exclusively, in air 2 air role.
I've flown the Tiffie through all that as Jabo.
-
S!
Since Tour 13 mostly Spitfire V/IX just for fun :)
-
No-one flies niki?? I wonder why I dont see any other planes in MA then...
;)
-
1. Spit
2. 109 g10/205 ;)
3. 205 :p
4. 205 :D
5. 205 (What, flightmodell changed???)
6. 205
7. 205 (pretty shure the flightmodel changed!) :(
8. 190 f/205
9. 205/Spit
10.205/mossie (had it with 205!)
11. Tiffie/109 g10
12. 109 g10/p51 B/La 7/109 f
-
started with 190A-8 (bad move for a noob), died a lot.
went to p38 for all jabo and did fair but still died a lot.
tried the Dora for a while and died a lot.
discovered the LA7 and died a lot.
F4U-1D,
P47D-30,
C.205,
P40E,
A20
and still, I died a lot
then came the day not too long ago, that I decided to try out the 109's. Started with the G10, then the G6, now fly G2 mostly.....and I die a lot.
-
I just started playing AH a month ago, but here's my list of planes that I mainly use:
1) Spit 9
2) N1K
3) Seafire
4) F4U
5) P-51 B/D
6) Tiffie
7) FW-190D-9
8) Now I fly all listed above (except Spit 9) regarding to mission: Tiffie - jabo, N1K - furball, and so on
-
Way way back in beta tour 1 I was a dedicated buff driver. 17's all the way. Even though they didna have guns yet :D Every time I'd strap on a fighter I'd get my bellybutton handed to me so I'd climb back into the Boeing. LOVED it when the guns were finally added, made the wait worthwhile :D
'Round the end of Beta tour 2 I guess it was, Redstar started bugging me about fighters again, and got me into the C.205 and started teachin me how to handle the fighters.
Flew the hogs when they were added, and I remember the night pay to play went live with the -1C. Blue planes everywhere! Yep, I was a Chog dweeb for a bit.
Tried various birds looking for the "right" one. Pony, spits, La5, even the n1k (which I decided was easy mode).
When the -38 showed up I thought I'd found my ride. Flew it almost exclusively until 1.04 (or was it 1.03?) when they redid the flight models. Loved the guns, never needed the cannon, usually fired off all the 20mm as I climbed out. But it didna fit so well after the FM changes.
Bounced around a bit more, flew the LW birds a bit, revisited some others. Ended up with the -51D as my ride of choice. I still fly other birds for perks or a change of pace, but always come back to the ponies.
Though since the A-20 was added I find myself in it a good bit of the time now :D
-
started out in F6F and Ki61's (got 3 kills first time online with F6F then was a week before I got another lots of deaths inbetween)
then to 109 and 190's(took awhile to somewhat learn these)
then to la5 and yak's (good speed but low ammo)
now I only fly Japanese palnes all of them (most challenging to fly and survive in the Ki61 still kinda miffs me)
-
1) seafire / spitV
2) LA7
3) dora
4) spit9
5) typhoon
6) dora
7) G10
Love my G10 :)
-
well, I started out in F4U-1D and the Spit IX/Seafire (seafire for CV ops.)
Spits are my favorite plane overall, and Hogs are my favorite US plane. so that's where I was coming from on that.
Ghosth introduced me to the speed of the La7, so I use that when I wanna go fast down low.
I started flying the Spit V a bit, and found I did better in it than the Spit IX, so I stuck with that. You'll find me in the Spit V more than anything, but I'll take other planes up as my mood changes.
I mainly fly in the TODs though, so more often than not I'm not picking my plane. ;)
-
mostly Tiffie or Temp. Spit when I start feeling sorry for myself :)
-
Planes? You guys actually fly planes?
I thought this was a tank game!
The tiger sure is nice.
