All,
I'm wondering if the following is a system quirk only for me, or if it's the way the game is coded:
Fly alongside a squaddie, say on his left. His plane is very loud in your right ear. Turn your head to look at him... and supposedly hear him with both ears... and the volume is 1/10th what it just was.
... or, from the main gun position in a tank while looking through the sight, fire a shot...*pop*. Now fire again, with your head turned... *KAPOW!!!* but only in the forward ear.
I'm wondering if it's just my setup (SBLive! in XP, headphones) or if everybody hears this way. If it's the game, is this something that could be tweaked in future updates?

Not one of you has a comment?
I really would like to know if it's just me or not.

Dux, there is a bug in our directional sound when it comes to gunners. Basicly it dosn't move properly when you rotate the gun.

Thanks, HiTech... actually I don't think I've noticed it while gunning, but certainly while piloting.
I'm leaning towards maybe trying a new sound card anyway... see if that helps. I've had minor issues with sounds in a couple of other games also... no sound at all in EECH.
Thanks again

If you're having problems other than the gunner position glitch Ht has mentioned, then I had a similar issue awhile back, but it seems to have evaporated during various reinstalls and system tweaking for other reasons.
It was suggested to me to change my audio acceleration (up if it wasn't at max, down if it was) and see if that helped, but, like i say, the gremlins upped and left seemingly of their own accord. Sorry I can't help more, but i think it's a hardware/driver/accel issue and it's been on this board before.

Roger that... I've seen the posts about stutters and freezes while sound is playing, and I thought mine might be a related issue. I just wanted to make sure I was chasing an actual problem, and not just a game quirk.
I've also seen other forums talk about XP /SBLive! irregularities, so I sort of expected to hear it was a hardware/driver thing.
Thanks. :)

Dux check your speaker setup.
If you get the speaker setup wrong, it does odd things.
i.e.
If it's set to "Two speakers" and you're using headphones, you'll hear stuff on the left ONLY in the left earpiece. Set to headphones, there will be a delay between hearing it in the left and the right.
With muted front sounds, it sounds like it might be set up for 5 point sound...

thats exactly what was wrong with mine Inom...
-
whenn I shoot in a field gun or ship I dont hear anything, only wenn I turn it into a specific angle...
-
I had the same problem - > since it was trying to use 4 speakers and I had only two set up, the sound was weird until i fixed that with my sblive.
-
you guys... you're the best.
I cranked the acceleration back a notch, and cycled the setup through all of the speaker arrangements, then settled back to "stereo headphones" (where it was before)... I don't know what the combination was, but something worked. Sounds are "normal" now.
Crowbaby's gremlins musta needed someplace to hide. I guess they'll be looking for a new landlord. :)
Thanx again all!
ps. HiTech... just curious; why did you guys give up on the read-only FAQ forum? Stuff like this is perfect for that kind of forum. Not enough time in the day, I guess. :)
