Title: Perk Points - Possible Use
Post by: Gryzly on January 07, 2002, 02:06:00 PM
I would like to submit an idea discussed amung our squad for possible future use of perk points.

When on the rearm/refuel pad, if possible would liek to be able to spend perk points to fix minor damage to a plane.  Like scale the perks in a manner that the more damage or assign an amount of points per damaged area. A pop-up appears: It will cost "X" amount of perk points to repair your airplane, would you like to repair it? Y N

It sux ending a 7 kill run because of a minor fuel leak.  or a single gun being shot out.  I think you may get the drift, but make the points high enough that it costs to resume the flight.

Good idea.  Those invisible men can rearm your plane, put on drop tanks, and fill it all up in 30 seconds.  Repairing a rudder should be a cake walk.  But instead of going to the rearm pad for repairs you have to taxi to the hanger.  :)

PS I read somewhere that Drex sucks.  Is it true?

I like the idea, and mentioned it about a year ago...get ready for the flames. "Thats not realistic! WAAAH", etc, et al. Refueling/rearming in 30 seconds isn't realistic either. I think being able to taxi to a hangar to repair would be good. It should only be minor damage though. If you're missing half a wing or your engine is out, you should have to get a new plane.

I'ld like to be able to use my perk points to pay for an online hit. On someone or even some squad.  ;)

 Beat that suggestion  :)

I'd like to be able to use my perk points to steal parts off other players planes...see that way I could steal Leviathn's elevator and rudder, Festers entire tail section or prop etc... you get the idea  whatever they shoot off me I get to steal form them  :D  buwhahahhahahaaaaaa

You could look at it this way. Perks could be used to fix minor damage, but realistically. Things like fuel leaks can be patched, and guns can be replaced, so you could do things like that. Another thing is time. Fuel leaks aren't hard to patch up, but you'd need to go to the ammo dump and retreive one or two or even three new guns, so that would be more time consuming (not much...gameplay). Wings, engines, tails, and props would require new planes, as those were major overhauls to fix, and usually the plane was scrapped anyways...

Yup, Generally speaking, was only referring to minor repairs. Considering the damage is setup the way it is it shouldnt be difficult to code.

A sortie ends when you land, it begins when you take off.

I think the kill counter should reset when you come to a complete stop on the ground, and a permanent kill streak counter should be implemented into the scoring section.

Would you want to assign both a perk value and a 'time to repair' value to a given sort of damage?

We were discussing this just last night,  assigning a time to repair and a pop-up on wether you wanted to make repairs.

maybe replacing a gun takes 3 minutes or something,  (gametime minutes maybe 45 gametime minutes)  Not sure the best way to do this but i would assume setting it up on the gametime would be the best.

Maybe the 'repairs for minor damage' option can be provided at the hangars, so it will promote the usage of hangars(which currently do nothing but provide targets for buffs).

Some Other ideas for Minor perk usage

a) change armament without pushing 'hangar'

b) safe landings for those 'near the field' ditches

When landed within 2 mile radius of field, and when plane is damaged only minorly.. simulating retrieval process.

c) pilot "rescued"

When ditched or bailed outside 10 mile radius of hostile field.. simulating the 'rescue operation', so pilot record shows no 'captured'.

ps) Try the 'Search' button at upper right of BBS page, Gryz. Detailed fields for search there. Try 'find by User name', that usually is the best way to find what you are looking for.
