Title: Forum suggestion
Post by: Ripsnort on January 15, 2003, 11:43:10 AM: Have a forum called "The Flame". Anything goes. "Get it off your chest" type forum. Short of bodily harm, anything goes. Moderated, but for porn type posts, or bodily harm, threats, etc. If a thread in the General goes astray, move it to the flame. We did this on another UBB and its worked very successfully, although I had strong reservations about it at first.

Technically, yes, its being used in that respect. But many UBB's have both, OT and "Flame" boards. It eases tension in the General and OT boards.

It didn't work, at all, it only made things worse. It's condoning abuse, even if it is only in a specific location, the attitude is contagious, and while the posts stay there, the attitude doesn't.

I won't argue that it doesn't work, but I will argue that it HAS worked on an Automotive forum I visit.

It also makes the moderators job very easy. Once a thread or two gets moved from General to Flame, folks start behaving more appropriately in the General forum. ;)
