Title: How bad is the Iraqi weather after February?

Everyone is saying that if the US wants to go into Iraq they better do it before February/March, because after that, the weather will be stopping any offensive moves.

But to me, (Ive never been to Iraq, neither do I plan to ever set foot there) that sounds a bit odd...I mean the US armed forces are the most advanced armed forces in the world...would they be incapable of pulling off an offensive in severe heat (or whatever makes the Iraqi weather so horrible)

I mean, dont the tanks have airconditioning? Surely the US logistics, who has been in a class of its own since ww2 must be able to supply the troops with enough water. Surely the helicopters can fly etc...

So how bad is it? Is it impossible to mount a major offensive in Iraq during the summer, or is that just the armchair generals talking?

They ain't supermen. The temperature in Iraq starts to rise very quickly in after the spring.

Try fighting a battle in full battle gear, or even NBC gear under the glare of a summer desert sun. I should think it would be nigh on impossible to do effectively.

It's been a few years, but I was there Nov '90-June '91. It's gets colder than penguin toejam in December and January and hotter than a 10-donuted billy goat by April. In between there it's not too bad.
