11 chemical shells found
what? saddam not being truthful? nah - must be a bush plot to start a war ...
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.N. weapons inspectors found empty chemical warheads during an inspection of a storage area in Iraq on Thursday, a U.N. spokesman said in Baghdad.
The spokesman, Hiro Ueki, did not give any estimate of the significance of the find during an inspection of the Ukhaider Ammunition Storage Area. He said an inspection team had gone there to inspect a large group of bunkers constructed in the late 1990s.
"During the course of their inspection, the team discovered 11 empty 122 mm chemical warheads and one warhead that requires further evaluation," Ueki said in a statement.
"The warheads were in excellent condition and were similar to ones imported by Iraq during the late 1980s. The team used portable X-Ray equipment to conduct preliminary analysis of one of the warheads and collected samples for chemical testing," the statement said.
There was no immediate comment from the Iraqi side.

Empty Shells Constitute Smoking Gun ?
Any Scuse will do.

Big deal. North Korea can throw inspectors out, threaten war and re-initialise a nuclear weapons development program and no-one bats an eyelid.
Saddam is a threat. But he is a contained threat, for the time being. Let's deal with NK first, then Saddam.
Anyway Eagler, this is the mandate we've needed for action. This thing had to be done by the book.

Smoking gun, not really, but enough to prove Iraq is lying. Their 12,000+ page declaration said they have nothing. Eleven shells are more than nothing. I guess it is possible these items were overlooked, but that all depends on where they were actually found.
It would be better to not have to go to war, but I would rather the war be over there now instead of finding out Iraq had chemical weapons when one goes off in my back yard.

If you think that there are no eyelashes being batted then you really are out of touch with reality.

"The warheads were in excellent condition and were similar to ones imported by Iraq during the late 1980s," said Hiro Ueki.
He did not elaborate on the significance of the find, but the UN office in Baghdad has since told the BBC that they did not consider the discovery to be a "smoking gun" at the present time. "

Yes, and I may have been speaking relatively. Imagine the reaction if Saddam had done the same...
The amount of copy this latest thing will produce will pale that written about North Korea into insignificance.

I'm sure it went something like this:
Sadaam to his generals: "Let's give those damn Americans no excuse and get rid of all our chemical and biological weapons. No sense in wasting anything that might be reused though, keep those delivery systems, we can use them to dispense fertilizer."
All very innocent I'm sure.

Ya know Weazel, it's not just about oil. It's also about Israel. If it were up to me I would not have restrained Israel when they were attacked by Iraq. However, we did. Because of that alone I believe we are now responsible to Israel to ensure that Iraq is no better armed than it was 12 years ago.

No, absolutely not. Johnson was practically dragged kicking and screaming into Vietnam from the recorded conversations I've heard between him and McNamara. There was a great deal of uncertainty around the Gulf of Tonkin incident, but Johnson pretty much felt he had no choice given what he knew at the time.
That said, his micromanagement of the war effort once we got involved was atrocious and deserving of every bit of criticism that's been heaped upon it.

I posted a link and all you could do is say you stopped. You do know how to use a link...right?

The tunnels and commando raids are real. I was stationed in South Korea twice in the 80's and heard of them all the time. The North dug several tunnels that were discovered that were like 2 lane highways. Big suckers. The raids happen all the time. There are fire fight along the DMC from time to time. If we heard of them, it was a big one.

So, are you really advocating war with North Korea? Or are you just blowing smoke like the democrats clamoring for the military draft? If you get the first you may get the second. I just hope you're not too old to go.

If I had my way the troops in S.Korea would all come home today.
If the two Koreas want to turn Asia into a nuclear wasteland let China deal with it, it's their back yard.
I only use the Korea situation to point out that President WASA has no clothes.

"Care for a few pointers? George W. Bush, 1978-84: senior executive, Arbusto Energy/Bush Exploration, an oil company; 1986-90: senior executive of the Harken oil company. Dick Cheney, 1995-2000: chief executive of the Halliburton oil company. Condoleezza Rice, 1991-2000: senior executive with the Chevron oil company, which named an oil tanker after her. And so on. But none of these trifling associations affects the integrity of God’s work."

ping ...you mean them people actualy had JOBS??......whats this world coming to?? i thought Rice was a wellfare mom before bush hired her.
PS...Halliburton is not a "oil company" they make oil drilling equipment.

Eagler, 11 empty shells isn't a smoking gun.
Iraq can simply claim that due to the extensive number of shells and due to the chaos after the Gulf war, they didn't have full control over what they had. And that those shells never had chemical or biological weapons in them anyhow - they're empty.
The US has lost more than 11 empty shells from their inventory.
Good start, but there needs to be more before Bush can invade Iraq, put in a puppet non democratic government and give the oil wells to US companies, including Cheneys and the one Bush Sr. used to be on.
The hypocricy is so patently obvious. NK is much bigger threat, having threatened a 'sea of fire' in the US. Saddam is contained for now, unlikely to try anything. Inspectors will keep going ad infinitum, and eventually Saddam dies.
It's all about oil.

Bush is weak and an appeaser? What did Clinton do when Iraq kicked out all the inspectors and started firing at planes in the no fly zone? Answer: not a damn thing. Made us look spinless and I'm sure encouraged and pleased Saddam.
Seem's to me the only reason why the inspectors are back in Iraq now is due to Bush getting tough with them and not lying down like Clinton did.
I happen to believe this Iraq roadkill has gone on for too long and Im HAPPY that Saddam is being made to comply with his cease fire agreements. Bush is holding Saddams feet to the fire, unlike that poor excuse for a man Clinton.
Now how long has the Korean crisis been going on now? a few weeks? Don't you think you could give a little time before you sum up the crisis before it's been fully considered/ played out?

NK having Nukes is one great reason to finish off Iraq now, BEFORE they get nukes.
I don't think it would be wise to stoke the flames with NK at a time when we are not prepaired to deal with them. You know that one fear right now is that NK has one nuke for SK and one for Tokyo?
When the stakes are that high, we have to be very careful. NK is unstable, is starving it's people and is run by a crazy man that has nukes and the means to deliver them.
I trust the my government knows how big a threat NK is. We are not stupid, everyone knows NK is a bigger threat. The problem is we are too late . NK has nukes now and we have to be very careful with how we deal with them.
NK is a perfect example of why we need to wipe out Iraq before they reach the point of having WMD. Some people don't get it.
Don't confuse wisdom with hypocricy.

No offense sir, as I have no problem with you. But Christ!!!! do you realize what you are saying?!??!
You are asking to wipe out Iraq (dude it is not just a name; PEOPLE live there.)
I find it scarily funny that "Americans" think that Countries should be effectively neutered if not destroyed because of the beliefs of the few in power.
For god's sake it's not like the average person has a say in these countries.
So nuke (dont think half this board knows what this means) the country and kill countless civilian lives to protect a Country that is not even under attack (yes that is you America.)
So i ask that you quell this useless crap. No more blind Americans fooled from the homeless and helpless in favour of global domination and the war "out there"
Piss on it.

Those cruise missles really showed them! Just like the cruise missles really showed Bin Laddin in Afganistan.
Clinton allowed Iraq to walk all over their cease fire agreement the whole time he was in office.
Bush got inspectors back into Iraq and Bush will destroy Iraq's ability to produce WMD one way or another.
Clinton would have still been lying down as Iraq developed WMD, just like he did for NK

Point 1. When I empty 11 shells, my gun smokes...
Point 2. Saddam didn't lie about sex, he lied to the UN about weapons, in defiance of the UN sanctions. How long have the inspectors been looking this time around?
Sarcastic conclusion: Time for us to enact additional sanctions.

NUKE blabbered:
"Those cruise missles really showed them!"
Boy that oil and grain is REALLY showing N. Korea we mean business about WMD!
President WASA is just sweetening the deal WJC made, next he will be crawling like a broken down puta saying "we're very, very, sorry"...just like he did over the spy plane China knocked down.
I bet you believe Bill Clinton was the sole person to Blame for Somalia too.
Before you answer the last question you better read Black Hawk Down....
Here's a couple of "chimpisms" for you:
"I want you to think about a scenario in which he becomes the arsenal and the training grounds for shadowy terrorists so that he can attack somebody he hates and not leave any fingerprints behind."
-- Failing to make sense yet again, in an apparent justification of war against Saddam Hussein, St. Louis, Missouri, Nov. 4, 2002
"Speaking about barbaric regimes, we must deal with probably one of the most -- not probably -- one of the most real threats we face, and that is the idea of a barbaric regime teaming up with a terrorist network and providing weapons of mass destruction, to hold the United States and our allies and our friends blackmail."
-- Besides being logically murky in the "let's go to war to prevent maybes and what-ifs" department, it's grammatically "interesting", too, Nashville, Tennessee, Sep. 17, 2002
His scrambled thought process is indicative of someone who's burned up most of his brain cells with dope and booze.

I understand Weasel's policy, it says that we should have nuked China for the P3, and nuke North Korea now, and then roll over and get buttf***ed by Iraq.
