I think HTC needs to change what constitutes a "ditch". A landing on my country's field in a certain perimeter should be a successful landing. If landing on an enemy's airfield is a successful landing then why not if I make it back to my base. There is no credit (especially when damaged) that you make back to your own country's airfield. It shouldn't be just if you make it on the runway. Heck, alot of field in WWII didn't even have runways. Here are some ideas for the different categories.
1. SUCCESSFULL LANDING anytime a plane stops on all wheels within the perimeter of a friendly field, vh base, or port
2. GOOD LANDING anytime a plane stops on all wheels within friendly territory; anytime a plane stops with wheels up within the perimeter of a friendly base
3. SURVIVABLE LANDING anytime a plane stops with wheels up outside the perimeter of a base but within friendly territory
4. CAPTURED anytime a plane stops with wheels down in enemy territory on or off an enemy field
5. DITCH anytime a plane stops with wheels up in enemy territory on or off an enemy field
6. KIA anytime a plane crashes hard enough to cause death to the pilot
Points can be distributed list with #1 above getting the highest (of course)
Currently there is no difference if a plane lands in any manner an inch off the friendly runway or off an enemy runway. Conversly, there is no difference if a plane lands on an enemy or friendly runway.

It seems to me that we could achieve much without adding new definitions of ending.
I would agree that any landing made witout the benefit of lowered gear should be considered a ditch........
I think making all the infield behave as runway for end definition is a matter of object definition in the terrain editor............ (hence a grass landing at a field is still successful) although small, medium and large std fields are "pre assembled objects" so its not quite so simple as lego.
Landing anywhere in enemy territory should be considered a capture.
So we are left with
Successful
Ditched
Captured
Crashed
Killed
Dumped
