Why is it I'm reluctant to give advice to someone just so I can pay to support them?

you can't get unemployement if you are fired for cause. only if you are seperated from employment by cercomstances not caused by you.
if you are fired you would have to get another job and make 4 times you weekly benifit amount before you would be eligable again.
if you are fired for a serious infraction (stealing assalt, ect) you can forfit all benifits paid in for that job, so basicly you would get no credit for working there at all.
everybodys boss sux if you have a job in todays economy you would be smart to hold onto it while you search for another.
btw- if you know you are gettting losing you job with enough warning you should go do some work in another state. if you have work in more than one state you can draw unemployment from any state you choose to file from. for example washington is considerably more per week than california (washington pays 496 per week for 30 weeks)

And I thought 40 Dogs was the only bleeding heart liberal on the MAWS....I'll have to pass along your desires to leach unemployment to Abunabi...he LOVES liberals :D

BiGB,
I don't want to pick on you here, but I do hope to be helpful.
That is not the case at all. Unemployemnt is an insurance policy and you don't pay into it at all, your employer does. Your employer pays rates based on the value of their total payroll and a multiplier for how many people get to draw from unemployment from that employer. Much like car insurance. Its based on the value of the car you drive with adjustments for how well you drive and how well the car performs in an accident.
Getting ripped off by changing a pay scale after the fact, that sounds more like fraud, and a civil case, think about hiring a lawyer. Some laws award something like tripple damages in cases like that.
Bottom line though, is unless you have a contract, you are an employee at will. Basically that means you or your employer can terminate employment for no reason at all. So when I worked for a slave pit bank telemarketing operation, I told myself and my co workers that complained, "Your job isn't what you think it is. Your job is to put up with the employer's toejam, and say, "thank you," with a smile.
In the mean time, go back to work. There are millions on welfare depending on you.

If you're not afraid to get fired, then just start working by your own rules. Make your job enjoyable, and either get fired or don't get fired. Wanna surf the web, hey, have at it. Need an extra 20 minutes for lunch? toejam, you deserve it, go ahead and take it! It's probably different from state to state, but I think you'll get unemployment even if you're fired, provided the employer that terminated you doesn't challenge it. Even then, it's still possible to get it. For specifics, go to your state's employment department web site and investigate...they will likely have more info than you could possibly want on the subject. When I was layed off, I got all the info and forms I needed for unemployment compensation online.

In California the employee always gets the benefit of the doubt. If you can show that you quit because the working conditions (including stress) made continuing employment impossible, you will receive your benefits. Getting screwed on your bonus will help you're case.

Ain't this nice... I'm so stressed I can't work anymore... Geeez!
Thanks libs :(

lol yes we have more then 1 liberal in the MAW's,,but trust me ..im not one of them(NRA -Life):D...
But Abunabi..i beg to differ a bit.....The money they pay for unemployemnt is defntly taken into account on how much they pay you......
Just like raising min wages..taxes and such"trikel Down"...If they raise min wage..then we either fire you or raise the burger price...So when they force Employers to pay unemployment...These employers get it from the money that the employee earns for them....It all comes from the Pie..just little slices...

BGBMAW - dont let the little people and their snappy remarks bother you.
If you want to get fired, the best way is to do your own thing - be yourself - have fun - stop playing by "office rules" etc etc - browse the AH BBS all day - that sort of stuff.
If this type of "I dont give a toejam" behavior doesnt get you fired, it will get you promoted. :D

Unemployemnt is an insurance policy and you don't pay into it at all, your employer does.
Not really, your employer is required to pay the unemployment insurance premium on your behalf, which means it is priced into your salary/compensation. If it were optional and he chose to pay it, then it would be a benefit, but since it's mandatory, you are really the one paying it. Same with 'employer matching' social security contributions. IMHO such arrangements should be against the law.

I love my job, but I work for a bunch of idiots! Our managers are so FU it is truely amazing they can but their pants on. A bunch of spineless "yesmen".
What is worse is that they pick others for management training just as bad or worse than they are. So the cycle never ends.
I cannot understand how corporate American suceeds at all!

thanks I was starting to miss english class.

I guess its a matter of opinion on this one, but my take on it is that since it is paid from money beyond what you make as a salary (or hourly), then it is your employer paying it. (i.e.- none of your listed salary is deducted for this insurance.)
PS- I found if you blatantly look for other jobs, you stand a good chance of being fired.
-
Question to ask is how does your company handle corrective actions?
Are you salaried or paid hourly?
If they document everything and give you the opportunity to correct the action before firing you, you won't win your unemployment hearing. California State Labor laws are very employee supportive. If you're paid by an hourly rate that is, if salaried, forget it.
You will not be able to collect unemployment if the company can prove gross misconduct or gross negligence.
If the company cannot support its charges without a paper trail, you have a good chance of winning your case.
Before you decide to try to get yourself fired, give yourself a cooling off period first. Sometimes the bonus figures are based on projected sales and company stock values. If your bonus is based on those figures and the projections weren't met, that might be a reason for the smaller bonus.
Also, what would you rather be doing for a living other than your present job?
Re-evaluate your present job and try to list the good things and benefits to you.
Then make a list of the negative things.
Then make your decision.
Good luck to you whatever you decide.

got a wife? where rubber masks and do stuff in office at early or late hours ;)

unemployment is not a hand out. yes your employer pays in not you. but it all figures into how much it costs him to hire you, if he didn't pay in then a greater chunk of that cost could go to you. so in effect you are paying it. it's not welfare it's insurance. thats why they call it unemployment insurance. collecting your payment due you is no more charity than using the health insurance your employer pays for bassed on your employment.
that said, fabricating a situation so you can quit or get fired, just to draw your unemployment instead of working is alot like burning down your bussiness to collect the insurance.

I ended my carreer with the government 23 years ago for artfully arranging for the apperance of a fresh dog turd pile (complete with one of those groovy lil chineese miniature rum punch umbrellas) precisely in the middle of my bosses desk.
Now mind you, nobody saw me do it, and I was never accused of it. Formally. But I was happily unemployed the very next day, with all benefits.
-
the captian is correct.
unemployment $ is not paid from your taxes.
employer's tax rates increase if the put someone on unemployment (anyone know what happens if unemployment is due to employer going out of business?)...of course this eventually translates to higher prices for the consumer & i'm sure enough of $$$ is skimmed off the top for the gov't to hire a few burecrats to kiss the bellybutton of some political appointee
-
anyone know what happens if unemployment is due to employer going out of business?
-----------------------
you get your benifits, and if you work for a big enough company that the media notices when it goes out of business you sometimes get extra benifits (extentions when most aren't getting them, retraining paid for, benifits continued while you are retraining, ect)
-
Freeloader. Get a new job or fix the old one so it's bearable.
I'm a freeloader too.
We all are.
We're all miserabe little sinners who do not deserve anything.
So give us money.
-
Tell your employer you are gay, and would like to wear a leather mini-skirt from now on - except on fridays when you would abide by the relaxed dress code and put on a pair of cheek-less chaps.
That would either
a) Get you fired
b) Make you very popular
Either way, you can expect more money, through the lucrative resolution of a wrongful dismissal action or through payment for sexual favours.

take 2 days sick but dont provide a note come in one day then take 2 more with no note come back a following monday then call in sick for 3 ,
they will fire you without a note but so long as yu call in each day
its not job abandonment and you will get the unemployment because it was circumstances beyond your control
One thing you might do is get a answering machine that records and date stamps so you have a record of each call in sick too just to cover yer bellybutton if the employer fights it most states do side with the employee so long as no fraud or theft or sexual harassment is involved
-
Smoke a joint.
Oh wait, you said fired.
-
I have the perfect idea for how to get you fired!
1st. Make a post like this.
2nd. Follow it up with a link to the actual place you work.
Now all ya need to do is antagonize someone on this BBS or out in the arena.... and sit back and just let things unfold.
:D

BG, where do u work??

Wouldn't it be more mature and benificial to simply start looking for another job then just move on? Getting fired does look bad on a resume, particularly when it's for cause. If you don't like the job, go get off your duff and find one you do like instead of whining about it.

Oh boy, leave it to Maverick to try and interject a little bit of integrity into our discussion into how to manipulate the system for our personal benefit. What a killjoy.

Yeah, we'd hate to see freeloading being limited by personal responsibility.
