OK I figured I'll confess before DejaVu busts me.
The WRX got broken into, then rearended, and then my landlord got black spraypaint overspray dots all over the white car. The clutch has developed a chatter and it needs alignment plus the 15k service. So it's going into the shop for an extended period. New rear bumper, new trunk lid, new taillights, repairs to driver's seat and passenger's door trim, new clutch assembly, detail/polishing, 4.8 qts Mobil1, alignment, and the long list of goodies they check on the 15k service.
(Clutch thing is well known problem, and they have a redesigned clutch assembly they are installing under warranty to everybody who gripes about it, per Subaru of America edict.)
Anyways now you guys can all make fun of me.

that sucks ass

At least you didn't buy a gay German car, carpet your garage, put up a poster featuring the logo that's all over your car, and join a BB to talk endlessly about your car.
Now THAT would be something to make fun of you about!

Shit... Rip - I think we're in trouble here.
But at least we're not computer nerds who play a flight sim videogame online, put up posters of aircraft in our offices, and join a BB to talk endlessly about the game.
Now THAT would be... toejam.
Seriously though Funked... that sucks some serious doody. WTF would your landlord spraypaint your fluff'n car!?!?!
Hope everything works out so you can start carving the twisies again soon! :D

Sorry about the driver's seat and door trim funkedup, I really thought we'd fit. How's that door trim dent in the top of your head doing anyways?

Anyone that would make fun of another's real life misfortune would be a low-life in my book.
Internet BBS disagreements are just that, nothing more, nothing less.
How bad was the structural damage?
Hope your insurance covers all of it (less deductable) and the shop can restore it good as new.
This will soon be just a bad memory as you drive around in your restored WRX.
Regards

Thanks Saburo, it's no problem. Between my insurance and the other guy's insurance and the Subaru warranty I won't be out of pocket very much.
Rip and Saurdakar and Nuchpatrick and AKDejaVu and myself and a few others are always talking crap about each other's cars in a humorous way.

Funked I'm really sorry to hear that, but I think you'll find this is merely one step along your life's journey and can only make you a better man with the knowledge and experience the trials along this path contribute to your moral character.
If I were you I'd give up in dispair though. Idiot.

What kind of man drives a Subaru? ... pure embarrasment.
You should've just leave it at the "Hungry Hunter", I'd be more than happy to give you a lift home :)
-
funked... I've met you... for any drivers seat to last this long seems to denote very high quality.
I may have to rethink some of my predjudices ( i hate doing that because it is much simpler to generalize)..
It used to be quit simple to generalize when seeing the little cars with the acid trip emblem on em... the owners were all hippy missfits who were by far the worst drivers in the world. I allways gave subaru cars a huge wide berth since they did not seem to be aware of their surroundings.
things may have changed and we have a few real drivers in the things... Oh well... at least we can still generalize about volvos and the no nothings that drive em.

Oh oh, I'm in deep doo doo...seems after reading this thread that I may be a gay driving a German car, with a carpeted garage, that has a painted logo on the wall of the garage, that has joined a BB to talk endlessly about my car, AND a computer nerd who plays a flight sim videogame online, put up posters of aircraft in my office(s), and joined a BB to talk endlessly about the game.
:( Don't ANYONE tell my wife!

I'm sure you'l be happy to know that I drive a Volvo.
I bought my 86 240 POS in 96 for $800. It's got;
hail damage,
mostly faded paint, dings and little rust spots all over,
a wooden grill that I made cause the real ones cost $275 used,
dents on the hood and trunk from me walking all over it when I use it for a scaffolding,
all of the blinker lenses are busted and missing about 1/3 of their plastic,
a crooked bent up roof rack because I'm always overloading it with lumber, drywall and crap,
and some gnarly studded Finish snow tires to make up for the fact that its an old rear wheel drive POS,
and 2 car seats.
233,000 miles on it and its still chugging. My 82 has 350+ (I think) on it, paid $850 for that one. I only carry liabilty insurance on each of them.
Can't remember the last time I changed the oil on either one, think it was some time in 2001... I never slow down for railroad crossings, big puddles or speed bumps. The 86 is blue with white sides. The sides are white from the road salt, I'll wash it in the spring... if it's still running. I'd hate to have it finally die the same month that I wash it... 30 minutes of work down the drain.
I'ts cool to play with cars as a hobby, but my cars work for me.

Funked, Clay bar will take the overspray black paint off your finish. Just make sure you do the following: (after you get the car back from the auto body shop, I HIGHLY suggest doing this anyway!)
~Get a good quality clay bar (Pep boys will carry a good brand)
Buy some Detailing spray (Meguiars Quik Detail spray should be sufficient.)
~Wash the car with Dawn dish detergent (about 1/4 cup to 3 gallons should be sufficient) to strip the finish of all wax. (And while your at it, buy some good car wash, don't ever use Dawn except to strip the wax off)
~Rinse, but keep the rinse water on.
~Kneed the clay to about the size of you hand, flattened out like a small pancake.
~Use the detail spray to lubricate the surface (along with with rinse water that was left behind from washing it) Work the clay bar over the entire finish, beginning at the top and work your way down to the bumpers and rockers last (These will be the dirtiest with tar balls, contaminents embedded in the finish)
~Rinse the car again when complete, or better yet, re-wash it.
~Dry it and wax it again. It'll look just like new.
You can get about 7-10 good cleanings with Claybar, so store it after your finished. Contrary to the old wives tales of yesteryear, claybar will NOT scratch the finish. Trust me, I have a Jet Black finish and JB tells you everything! Use it only when you plan to wax, but make sure you strip the old wax or reminence of the old wax off with Dawn detergent.

eskimo... i'm not surprised. Oh well... you can be comforted in knowing that since you drive such a safe car you don't have to drive well.

There is only one car the one most and longest made.
And i beat u al dweebs in any 90 degrees corner with it.
Sukass new car buyers and bickblock dorks
kiss my beetles ass.
-
eskimo... I believe that I merely said that you could be "comforted" knowing that you didn't have to drive well with such a safe car. That has allways seemed to be the attitude of volvo drivers to me.
You guys can do as you like but you will live longer if you generalize on this one.. volvo drivers are a menace and you should heighten your awareness around them.

I love WRX's as I can always count on a WRX trying to take on my GSX-R 1000 at the lights. Now when the bike can do 92mph in 1st gear and the 1/4 mile in under 10 secs I wonder what on the earth their thinking when they let out the clutch?

We are thinking "Watch this I'll get this future organ donor to do a smokey burnout and pop a big wheelie trying not to get beat by a family sedan." :)

Don't feel bad...you will get the Red Ford Focus from hell..::snicker:: I hear those work great for your karma.. Mine goes into shop Tuesday..for some minor adjustments :D So I'm sure I'll get the red car from hell as well..
I know about the spray paint.. There is a boat fiberglass repair shop across the way from our office..I'm always getting some weird color combo on my car. I'm always complaining

Hey Funked, how much boost does that thing run? And what kind of turbo is it? I'm running about 15psi in my Saab right now, can't go much higher without some water injection or a better intercooler setup. Of course getting it to the road is the real problem...AWD would be nice :)

I think it's 14.2 psi. I think it's a Mitsubishi TD04.
-
You think?! Typical ricer :p Mitsubishi makes a good turbo, but I would guess that 15psi is about tops for that unit efficiency-wise. They are known for quick spool up and good low-RPM power. I'm running a Garrett T3/4 hybrid. It doesn't really start to spool up until about 3k RPM, but then it really takes off and produces max boost at about 6k RPM. It's good up to about 22psi if you can keep the combustion chamber temps down enough. How big an intercooler that thing got? That is my next performance job, either a Spearco air-water intercooler, or a huge front-mounted intercooler. I can't keep my intake air cool enough right now to sustain much over 15psi.
Is that thing easily tweakable? On the old Saabs you can adjust max boost pressure and rise rate by tweaking 2 potentiometers inside the turbo ECU. (You can also solder in new resistors and go even higher :p)
-
Sorry to hear it Funkedup...
Always sucks to send your baby off to the shop.
Is your WRX still stock? I still haven't added a single mod to my TT, seriously considering a chip and a FMIC.
I'm closely watching the news on the next generation S4 (V8)
-
The best mod you can do to a WRX:
Sell it.
j/k :D
