Been thinking... couple of ways to make fighting a bit smarter.
1. Add a penalty after each death. Something in the order of a 5-10 minute time out before you can up again.
2. Remove points gained unless you land.
Of course, these may not be a good idea in the MA, but wouldn't be a bad idea in HA or some other arena.

Yuck, no way. If something like this is implemented, folks will leave AH in droves.

Points? What are those? Do you mean that thing at the top of Funked's head? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Exactly why I didn't think it would be appropriate for the MA...
-
Making lives valuable only works if you give people a mission.
Otherwise they just fly like cowards and never engage unless there is no risk.
If you give them a mission that they must perform, and they must live to get credit, then they have to balance task completion and survival, and you get some decent flying.
-
Maybe that's the key... Having mission points larger than indiscriminate kills.

Now THIS sounds like a good idea. It's a good way to funnel all types of players into using teamwork. Even if points don't matter to the player, the larger number of people who would fly those missions because of the points bonus makes it fun to join up regardless.

Uh-oh...now you have done it. Now you want to force people into doing things with a goal in mind.
Lazs will be here any minute to flame you. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I am against any idea that will force thinking, cooperation, and less chute killing.

I'm just amazed I can climb my dufus butt into a cockpit and fly furball once in a while... just mastered that "walking and chewing gum" thing a month ago... (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
Sure, if we ever had an HA, do it. But not in the MA. Lock me out 10 minutes because of a death? When I have 40 minutes or less to fly? No way I would even enter the place.

I'm for a more radical approach:
1) You die, you lose all points gained while flying that sortie prior to your death.
2) At the end of the tour pilots are ranked by their best kill streak, all other sorties with lesser kills are ignored.
Chutes are unkillable when:
1) they bail under 1K
2) they ".ef" under 30 seconds after landing.
This eliminates the problem of chutes being spies, and of idiots getting chute kills.
People are paying 30 bucks to fly air quake? Cool... well I'm also paying the exact same ammount to fly a WWII sim... :P

Simple: perk point bonus for a streak of kills with landing at the end. You must land the plane to get the bonus. Maybe make it scale up with each succeeding kill landed. Go up, get kills, land. Log off. Repeat. Get nice bonus snowball building. This would also help out those who don't have a lot of time to fly to get perk points.
-
Yeah, the radical approach! Me too!
You die, your account is terminated FOR LIFE! Your handle is retired!
You can always sign up again under a new name but hey, your $30 is GONE!
So, you log in day one, crash a fully loaded F4U-1D off the end of a carrier and die...that's it. Game over, $30 gone, handle retired.
Require at least a 2 hour period before you can activate a new account!
Realism! Yeah, baby!

I vomit at the prospect of furballs in this late war planeset. Its suicide eventually and I prefer to land what I have taken up.

geeze... have u guys ever thought about just doing something for the fun of it?
I don't drive mini vans and i don't drive automatic transmissions... I don't date sane women and I don't do strat.
If I wanted teamwork and organization i woulda just stayed at work and made the overtime.

Lazs, your work analogy ain't that bad...
When you have fun, you have fun - when you work you earn money (even better if you enjoy your work at the same time (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
When you furball, you furball - when you "work" in flying smart/flying missions you "earn points" (even better if you enjoy bringing yer plane back in one piece (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
I'm not trying to "ban" furballs - I'm just saying have your fun flying 'em but shift the weight to getting points for flying smartly.
-
Lazs,
I see you blow up alot. If thats yer idea of fun then more power to ya.
OTOH, it aint my idea of fun. After a billion deaths and a takeoff/landing ratio of 10/1 I have grown weary of the childs game. Im trying to make this dumb game more of a challenge to myself.
I think if my approach to this potentiol sim pisses gamers off and makes them publically rude and obnoxious then I am on the right track (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
I am doing it my way!

I think adding a point multiplier of 2x would be a good reward for mission participation, as is there are few missions.
-
I don't think many people would fly in AH if either of these were implimented.
Many people may not care about score, but they will care about the fact that nobody else will engage anymore unless they have a distinct altitude and numbers advantage and even then, it will most likely be one pass and run.
Think about an air war. Not a simulation, but a war. Why would you want to make something like that?
Give a bonus for surviving that makes it a preferable option. Also allow people to fly badly, like a newbie or basically however they want in order to make the game more fun for everyone.
I fly a simulation for fun. Much of that fun relies on it not being too good of a simulation.

Upon further review of the scoring system, there is a bonus if you land:
Death Multipliers
Landed 1.00
Discoed 0.25
Bailed 0.50
Ditched 0.75
Captured 0.40
Killed 0.25
Crashed 0.25
Maybe the thing to do is simply increase the landed multiplier to 2.00.
-
miko... u missed the point... I didn't say i didn't impregnate em.
yeager... Are you telling me that you are flying at your very best survival rate right now? LOL Maybe you should just relax and have fun. Only times I have ever seen you is when you and a wingie have jumped me from alt while I was on the deck. I allways kill one of ya before I die.... I get sent to the tower and you or your wingie spends 10 minutes flying (oh my gawd... alone!) back to base... I'd say I was having the most fun.
