THis is my second request! When I attempt to play AH, I click on the shortcut as always, and wait for the sign on screen to appear. All of a sudden, every frame movement takes multiple seconds . I see the clipboard come out of the distance in 3 separate sizes. My mouse input takes 5-10 seconds before it registers, and it's nearly impossible to aim it accurately....If i manage to get into an arena.....again all inputs take numerous seconds to register.... I have just dl Directx 9 hoping that would resolve it but it didn't. This problem happens both on and off line, BUT only with AH. Another weird thing, when I alt-tab out of AH (the only way i can leave), and attempt to right click on the button for AH in the task bar......my mouse diappears while over the drop down menu. I can still "see" what it does because it still highlights the "close" button. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is because as of Friday, i can't fly and it's p'ssing me off. Anyone?
:(

For the n'th time post your total system specs when you ask for help on a problem as vague as this.
Nobody can help you without knowing what you have running there.
-
Happens to me once in a blue moon.... reboot and all is well...

Taszman, you need to post your computer specs for people to be able to provide you with help. However, I had this problem before as well. If you are running an older vid card you may have your resolution too high in the video settings in AH
I would recommend that you try setting your video settings at 800X600, also use 16Bit, check the boxes labeled "Disable Palettized Textures" and "enable Mip Mapping".
You will have to be patient and move the cursor onto Video on the start up clip board. Its slow and a pain in the butt, but you can do it.
And, if this is the problem, you should think about upgrading to a better Video card.
Lastly, again ...post your computer specs.
Cheers,
RTR

It appears that my attempt to see what AH looked like with a higher res, and my failure to return both windows and AH to the same setting is what is causing this. I haven't tried the fix yet but I was told that if i delete video7.cfg and re run AH, all will be well. Thanks RTR for the response. As this is now officially my 7th post, I haven't been told "for the nth" time to post specs:rolleyes: . Anyways, thanks again.

Taszman then I guess you didn't bother to check out the technical forum for similar problem threads either.

Taszman, I hate to tell you this. I think your problem is your video card. It is integrated and pretty old. I had the same setup for vidcard and ended up upgrading. That old Rage Pro just doesn't have the poop to pop out. You can try updating the driver for your video card, and running on low resolution, but I am afraid you will have very low Frame rates even then. Look through the BBs on video cards etc for more info on new cards. For drivers for the Rage Pro you have now, go to ATI.com. You may find a driver there that will work, just make sure it is for the right vidcard.
But all in all, in truth, if you get AH to run with your current setup, you can expect very poor performance.
Srry to be the bearer of bad news sir.
Cheers,
RTR

Is it JUST the vid card? Or is the whole system not very compatible to AH? I can probably swing a Geforce card or the like but not a new machine. Thanks for reviewing the info though.

BTW, it was only recent that AH choked on me........even though i had low frame rates I could still play without a big problem......I'm wondering what caused the recent problem.
Oh well.

Hardware-accelerated Direct3D 9 is not available because the display driver does not support it. <---- here is your problem.
390Mhz celery.. ouch.
I'm sorry to say this but your hardware has been in need of upgrading for the last 3 years or so :)
It's time.
-
mrsid2, can I just upgrade the vid card as a temporary solution? My pockets are fairly empty right about now. I realize that 390 MHZ is slow by today's standards, but you plays with what ya gots, ya know?:D
-
The prob is that your CPU can't keep up with the vidcard even if you upgrade it.
Probably you will see _some_ increase in fps and probably you will be able to play AH after that.
-
Ok...so I install a Geforce 2 MDX 400.......slight upgrade from what i got.......now I get a error message before i get anywhere close to AH.......it says " Initialization failed with -5 mainSN. failed -2"
What now?
-
nevermind...i know now that it is a sound card problem......i ha install a card that i had to take out to put the geforce card into and now i can't bet the integrated card to run........problems problems:mad:
