I think I'm kinda burnt out and really have been for the last long while. I've started trying out different planes like hurris and fm2 for fun and also the CT and even some events like CAP which are kinda fun but I just cant fly more than or or two sorties.
I really dont I want to leave the game or quit or any such nonsense..
Any ideas? :)

hmm Hardcore settings for one arena?
No icons, no map, no radar, full reality?
smth like mission arena, with one life per day/week?
no capture airfields , attack only strategical/tactical targets
missions launch only when full squadron is filled for rodeo /or any other kinds/ mission
sample before mission arena announced by HTC
all on ETO, or any othes historical based map
i have full idea, but without CM's team cant be done

I,m there too grun :(

I furball against the odds... Keeps me goin..

I got bored a couple months back, I liked doing stuff like taking up a 202 or some other super UBER ride like spit, hurri Mk I and seeing how many kills I could land.
death isn't important, just seeing that so and so has landed 4 or 5 kills in a 202 gives you a warm fuzzy feeling.
:D

Ever tried a "greyhound" race?
You and a buddy racing M8s from Point A to Point B. VH to farside of airfield and back, or if you're at a large airfield, you can race the runways like Dale Jr. at Pocono.
Or you could do a M8 off-road race challenge on the Pizza map. Watch out for those white rocks - they're a killer!
Or follow a horde to an airfield that's been de-acked. If for some reason you need to bail out, you can parachute onto the runway and chase the airplanes around.

GRUN
Flight sims in general for me have been losing my interest. I fly AH about twice a week and play vastly different games thos other days. For instance i enjoy diablo 2, and GPL. Occasional mindless x-box fun is nice as well.
Or take a few week break, I do this a couple times a year just to stay fresh.
-
The key to fun in AH is this:
Step one: Find a fight where your country is hopelessly outnumbered.
Step two: Select a Spitfire MkV from Hanger.
Step three: Take off and join fight.
Step four: Allow yourself to be continually amazed at how easy it is to shoot down 10 aircraft in one sortie without a scratch.
Step five: Land, be called a spitdweeb.
Step six: Repeat.
-
Yeah right...
evil voice insidde GRUN's head: "Spitfire.....My...Spit...fire .... My Prrrrrecious Spitfire...." :)
-
I'm there where you are, Grun. When I read radio 2 and someone yells "quick! Bring a goon to A22! I got it capped!" I think "seen this, done that." Having a field capped, flying jabo missions, jumping into a big furball.... it was exciting to me.... 12 months ago. All this doesnt do it for me anymore.
But now I have found the source of ever lasting excitement in Aces High :).
I think that a lot of people dont really realise that buffing is a whole other dimension in Aces High. If you join a serious bombersquadron like I have, you will find out that there is a whole other world hidden in that same arena where thought were only dogfights and basecaptures :).
Every week our squadron sets out to destroy some enemy target deep behind enemy lines. It is immensely thrilling to penetrate deep into enemy terrirory while being attacked by angry little fighters, defending the heart of their country. And I'm talking going at least 3 or 4 sectors into their country. It is so much more rewarding than just dogfighting. (I'm not talking about rewarding as in winning the war... I dont care about "the war". I'm talking personal fulfillment :))
So to conclude Grun, I was where you are, and this is what kept me here... and will keep me here for a long time longer. Because it gets boring a hell of a lot slower than base hopping!
And here is a little pic to show off. Last sunday we tried a multi layered formation for the first time, consisting out of 2 wings of 3 planes seperated in height. Not as tight as we use to fly our regular formations but we'll get it down. And we recruit! ;) http://www.no9squadron.com

You can have fun in AH?
-
Get some games that have nothing to do with flying, maybe racing or something and play those steady for about a week (or longer)
no AH just other types of games..
It helps ease burnout.
Then come back and AH will seem like a fresh change from what you'd been doing.
I play or have played
GPL
OFP
Half life DOD
RC Helicopter (offline only)
Links 2003
and I maybe playing UT 2003 soon.
most of these games are multiplayer online and most of them have Warbirds or AH people or both playing them on servers.
Also I'll prolly try to make some skins for the IL2 FWA8 so that gets me away from AH for a bit as well.
-
Good idea Kanth, another thing i play is a racing game. Its still in beta and will be out this Feb. Its free play until then, and i can use my joystick to ride as well. ;)
Live For Speed (http://www.liveforspeed.com)

Aye GRUN, try some other stuff.
I enjoy just about every type of game - these are what Im playing now.
Sim City 4
Live for Speed (Gonna get you WT) ;)

F12002
Total Immersion Racing
I've been doing some F1 2002 by EASports. How does Total Immersion Racing compare? I favor the American LeMans and Trans-Am type cars, but I couldn't tell if TIR was as good as F12002.
-
if AH is getting boring maybe you're spending too much time playing it.. just a thought.
-
poopster seems to have a handle on this.
-
I thought LiveForSpeed was out already ?!?
-
Wlfgang I am barely playing as it is. I really do like the game but I feel as if there just isnt anything fun for me. So I'm asking for new suggestions. :(
-
there was a post about this sort of a few weeks back....
try hunting 1 player or squad.
for example choose the III/Jabostaffel :)
look for a squad member to land and find what they are flying. then goto the front of that country and try to just pick out who they might be.
if im fighting the knights for example, i look for a 109 flying a certain way. it might be a certain member of a squad i wont name that we the III/Jabostaffel have a relationship with. i'll try to pick out that 109 and isolate him for a 1-1 fight.
another idea is to try and kill only 1 type of plane for a night/week. choose B17's for example and get up high in a 190 or other buff killer and patrol. see how many you can get before you get killed. or try killing only typhoons all night. they are easy to find .... but evade all other fighters... thats NOT so easy.
oh well my 2¢
-
I understand Grun. I barely play any more either.
it's RL for me.. ski season, hockey season, etc..
maybe all ya' need is a RL diversion .
It makes flying fun for me again even though I suck worse than ever because I never fly.. it IS more fun ;)
-
Play Morrowind.
-
Hehe Mazz... My Personal Best lap time to date is 1:31:47 :p
Wlfgng no Live For Speed will be out i believe Late Feb.
-
After playing AH - go out and buy all the other Flight Sims -
WW2OL (I'm still pissed I payed 50 for it) I need a CRAY to run it
IL-2 (great damage model, but something about FM feels weird)
CFS3 ( I took this back although I dug some of the new planes)
FM is horrible
Moral is - I end up right back at AH, not because of the best graphics, damage modeling or FM, but community, playability and diversity

TIR is ok. It not a top notch product like F12002 - definately needs some brushing up - and the driving physics are much more arcade-like (the AWD cars almost NEVER lose adhesion) but its fun - theres a nice carrer mode where different teams bid for you as a driver depending on your performance - sounds are good - the engine note of the Panoz is incredible. I cant say I would recommend it though - you'd be better off downloading the GT mod for F12002 (do a search, link is listed on this BBS somewhere)
WT - I dont think Ive played LFS is about a month - I think my best lap was somwehere about there in the FWD car. My plate says "944 Turbo" say hi if you see me. ;)

A bunch of us MAWs went to the DA about a week or 2 ago and went to crookedest caynon layout we could find.
We all spawned 163s facing the canyon with engines off. On the count of 3 we all started engines, lifted off, and raced NOE (200ft AGL) thru the canyon.
TOTAL BLAST !!! ... for some of us ... literally :D
-
Well, on the rare occasions that I just don't feel excited about WW2 fighter v fighter combat, I just go do some Real Life task that I'm not that thrilled about doing.
Cleaning the basement and putting away the wife's 2, 321 Christmas decorations for example.
A little bit of RL makes me pine for an AH furball.
Maybe you're just playing too much... it can happen. Do some RL junk for a while and the allure may come back.

Got something like it already - the Sports Car GT package from RSDG.Net along with their Sebring and LeMans tracks. Total blast! I race Sebring almost to the exclusion of the other tracks because I've been to Sebring several times and get a kick driving past the viewing berms where I've sat.
Ok, that's the sort of info I was looking for. I'll pass on TIR and do some more d/ling of mods.
-
Pace yourself Grun. Try some other games between AH cravings. For a complete change, Sphincter Cell is to be releasd for the PC in a day or so. I already ordered my copy.. the demo kicked bellybutton and I can't wait.
http://www.splintercell.com
Check it out ^
aside from other games...
I heard something about news concerning future updates being posted early this week (eagerly anticipating the me410). That should give ya something to look forward to. The mission arena is SURE to change things... no more MA nonsense for a while.
-
Maybe I could do something really wierd like join an allied squad and fly for bishops?
Any brave souls out there? 56FG? 13TAS?
-
The most important thing to avoid burnout,
never force yourself to play the game if you don't really want to.
Halflife and it's assorted mods are always a good way to waste some time.
Besides DoD(Note the exclusion of counterstrike), there is a relativly new mod called natural selection (http://www.natural-selection.org/). It's something like a cross between avp(minus predators) and starcraft.
-
thx WT.. I have the demo and it's a kick.
Formul1.. yawn
I prefer Nascar for realism, except I get bored going in circles at times.
-
If you find yourself burning out, take a break. It's what I'm doing right now. Haven't played AH for hmm, at least a week now! :)

Grun, you are welcome to fly P-47s with my squad. Maybe the change of scenery will do you good. Look us up in the MA, a few of us are on most nights US time.
But having experienced AH burnout myself, I find the best remedy is decreasing the amount you play. In severe cases, cutting yourself off from the game for a couple weeks/months is necessary. Do anything else, preferably not another WW2 flight sim, and AH will become fun again after some time away.
-
If I get bored playing AH it's becuase I have been playing it too much .
But that's just me .

Fly TOD with my squad.
-
Hey Sancho!
I just might do that. I think I am looking for something different rather than just being sick of flying too much.
-
how can you.....me I never almost never fly the same plane......do 1 or 2 sorties...then GV's....then ship gunner.
I diversify my gameplay......go to DA with squaddies....soon will be in CT.....Buff's(even tho i really suck in em)....NOE missions..but only with squaddies.....chase panzers and tigers in M8's......bla bla bla
stop doin the same thing......
-
you would be welcome in the 56 FG.
saying that, why not start a new hands on hobby like building scale models? I really enjoy it:)
-
I build RC planes myself, excellent way to relax :D
Grun, you'll welcome into the 56th anytime bro.

I need it for sure after two days looking for the hidden Azura's Shrine (not the SE one).
BTW, this game is really worth a try. The best I've seen after Flash Point saga.
-
I despise AH, HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT... but if I stopped playing it I would have to much time on my hands.. so what am I going to do instead.. read no way lol
-
Fly events. Just events. TODs (both), Snaps, CAP, Scenarios, CT on the "scored nights". MA only when you need to get a fix. Join a squad that flies them, or even better, form a squad that flies them.
How about an "event" JG of some kind? (I say that because I know you like LW iron). I guarantee you will have fun Grunherz.
I went that route in Warbirds in 1998 and never looked back. Same medicine has worked for me in AH. Even after 6 years of event flying I still get an adrenalin hit when I see an enemy bomber formation below, I dont get anywhere near that kind of feeling in MA, no matter how many bases get captured.
Cheers :)

CT
if you haven't tried it lately, you haven't tried it at its best
-
I do rc planes as well and I have plenty of distractions and RL commitments.
I'm just trying to improve my AH experience. :D
-
GRUNHERZ,
DRINK 6 cans of beer,
2 shots of Vodka,
and a cup of NyQuil as a chaser.
ADDS a HOLE NEW PERSPECTIVE TO THE GAME!!
:D :D

When I see people burn out it's usually a certain player "type"..
I don't mean this in a bad way at all, it's just an observation from over the hill and here.
The majority of burnouts tend to be players that take all this somewhat seriously.
In that I mean is, that for this type of player, there must be a purpose. Whether it is to take bases, recreate a battle, win the war etc.
Frustration and/or boredom comes in when the wars have been won, the bases have been taken and it all becomes samo...samo day in and day out.
As it progresses it becomes something like Ramsey has suggested
hmm Hardcore settings for one arena?
No icons, no map, no radar, full reality?
If THIS can be done I'll have the fun again. It was done over the hill. Had it's very own arena and the census hovered at four or five.
What happened with this experiment ?? With the exception of one of the proponents NONE fly anymore.
It's all in a persons makeup. We're all different. I'm the other type of player.
I've been playing a long time. There is no purpose. I get together with friends and kill stuff. EVERY fight is different, every fight is a new challenge.
Don't make more of it than it is. It's fun with friends, and every night is different.
All these old farts I fly with have been at it a whole lot longer than I have, but they have the passion. We have fun, we fly, we kill people.
Wldthing and Rude and a quite a few "oldtimers" have the same philooooossssshphy :D
There isn't anything better than that.
The "purpose" is to kill people and have a laugh while doing it.
It never approaches samo...samo for every night is different.
