SO I bought the Springfield armory ultra compact V10, and have now fires about 60 rounds through it. It has been failing to lock the slide back. I figured ok, prolly to much oil, I took it home cleaned it and lubed it with tetra gun grease and went back to the range.
Now not only is the slide not locking back, now when I insert a magazine, the slide drops! This is so unsafe I could not let my friend shoot it.
So I look it over, it seems like the slide catch is not engaging very well, so I look close and it looks like it is rounded. I compare it to my full size 1911, and it is not shaped the same so I swap the slide releases, and that helps, but it is still very easy to drop the slide. I did not shoot it, with the new catch.
I am going to call Springfield today and squeak, I think the notch on the slide may not be right either.
What a Fu$!ing drag, I paid 850 bucks after tax for this thing and it is messed up from the factory??
On the up side, my Sig220, performed flawlessly! Man I should have bought another Sig!!
Edit! BAH now fixed, stupid cut and paste!!! BAH !!!
-
I think you need to step back away from the gun oil and relax :D Your starting to repete yer self!
-
Are you using the factory magazines?
If so, try a 7 rounder from Wilson Combat. If thats not the problem, send it back to SA and have them fix it - I have a fullsize SA 1911 and it hasnt had ONE failure of any kind in over 2500 rounds - thats impressive.
-
I'll never understand that particular fascination.

Skuzzy, its easy to get hooked - just pick up a good qulity .45, load some tracer rounds, and head to the local range.
Upon arrival, cut out a target to look like an N1k2 and blast away - youll be hooked in no time. :D
-
Saurdaukar
I tried the factory mags and some Kimber mags, did the same with both.
It really sounds like the slide release is defective, and springfield seems to agree.
They will not ship out a slide release, I have to ship the whole gun to them, and they are going to pay for shipping. BAH!
Scuzzy... You do not understand shooting or 1911s?
-
The whole gun thing is a bit elusive to me.
It's not that I have never fired a gun. Fired plenty when I was younger (cant even count how many rounds fired when I was in the Air Force). Dad always had guns around the house.
I just never really cared for it one way or the other.
Is it a hobby to you guys? And that may explain it. It just ain't a hobby that interests me.
-
hehe just like Aceshigh really.
-
Kimber? GOOD GOD! Some of the finest "production customs" out of the box... but their magazines are crap - maybe even worse than SA. Even if its not the problem, go pick up some WC mags - well worth the price.
Good luck with everything - its usually standard practice for any gun manf. to take the whole gun from you and diagnose the problem rather than ship out 20 parts until the issue is solved. SA has a good reputation for this kind of stuff - you shouldnt have any issues.
-
Yeah I was planing on getting some Wilson 7 rounders anyway.
Hmmm, well I gues it is a win, win shipping it out to them. I am going to insure it up, so if they fix it good. If it gets lost, then Sig 228 here I come!
-
What? They let Californians have guns? YOU'LL SHOOT YOUR EYE OUT! I have a 380 Bersa that does the same thing. Scart the pistols outta me first time i used it.
But as long as you have your finger off the trigger it should'nt fire because there is a secondary safety in the hammer mech. But send it in have them check it . Better safe than sorry.

Ahh,..okay. In that context, I get it.
I like RC flying, but not everyone does.
For some reason I always pictured gun folk like some maniacal fanatics who preferred a gun to people. Don't take it wrong.
I know it's a bizarre picture, and I can't even tell you why its there.
Good luck getting it fixed.
-
Q. How do you make a gun owner dizzy? A. Put him in a barrel, and tell him to pee in the corner - lol.
hehe - no worse than the dental jokes we have to endure. :p
-
Lame...
-
Sorry GtoRA2,..I hadn't realized I left an opening for that response.
My apologies.
I was rather enjoying the discussion. Just trying to get some info.
-
LOL Skuz - I'll delete it if you want me to, now that GTO has read it.

Skuzzy, the mental picture you have is one that is carefully husbanded by the anti gun crowd. They want you to think that way so they can more easily set their agenda. You see they feel they know better than anyone else and believe in freedom, particularly the freedom to tell others who have committed no misdeeds with a firearm, that they can no longer indulge in the hobby they like. Like prohibition, it is an attempt to tell you how they want you to live your life.
Arguments over this have been rife in the bbs for as long as I have been a member of the AH community.
As far as what the "average" gun enthusiast is like, look at the average person on the street and that is what they look like. By far the vast majority of gunowners look just like you. Maybe better looking but kinda similar.
-
LOL that was for Beetle not you!
lol Sorry for not making that clear!

Skuzzy, I used to feel exactly the same way. Then I found out how many people that I know are gun owners - all regular people that don't go out of their way to make it known.
Replace the word "gun" with "combat simulation." I know people that can't figure out why anyone would willingly recreate any kind of combat on a computer. There are those that think anyone that plays combat simulations are the embodiment of evil, creating a generation of individuals that are de-sensitized to killing and death. We Aces High fans aren't crazed maniacs that are just a hair's breadth from becoming killers. Neither are the vast majority of gun owners in the US. The news at six would have people think differently, though.

No GtoRA2, I was apologizing for my remark that beet1e used as a setup for his joke.
beet1e, I know your opinion about guns, but am asking for a reprieve from it for a bit. Thank you.
Mav,..doesn't really wash with me, as I have never subscribed to any type of gun propoganda. I really never pay attention to such stuff.
In the Air Force, I was a pretty good shot. There may have been some things that happened there that sort of turned my interest down.
-
Oh Airboss, I know in real life that gun owners are pretty much regular people.
I just had that bizarre picture in there, but never related it to anyone real.
My Dad and brothers all own guns. It's probably why I feel a bit uneasy as to why I do not find it interesting. You know,..one of those,.."What's wrong with me?" types of things.
Anyways,..thought it an intersting thread. Hope you get it worked out GtoRA2. For any hobby, safety first.

Thats understandable - as with any hobby - the first impression and experience shapes your opinion. I started shooting .22's and 20 guage shotguns in Boy Scouts - it turned out that our Scout Master thought I was half decent and petitioned my father to buy shotgun so as not to waste my young "talent."
Kinda got hooked after that - when I started out, it was fun as a kid to hold something with such immense power and watch the clay birds explode when I hit them - but as I grew up, I started liking the "sport" for different reasons - groupings, distance shots, etc. As you get more involved and interested, you look at the history and technicalities of firearms very similar to the way we look at aircraft. Advantages, disadvantages, favorites, whats crap, what the "P-51 of the gun world" at the time, etc.
I worked at a rifle range when I was in college and that further encouraged the hobby. Its just what youre surrounded by I suppose. (Marine Corps didnt hurt either)
In addition, the stereotypical gun owner isnt Jeb from 'Bama. Youd be surprised at the people you know that are gun owners and dont make any mention of it. Its not exactly a cheap hobby when your shelling out $1,000+ for decent weapons. Those that collect old military firearms are evenb further seperated from the stereotype - $15,000 for a Civil war rifle is a pricey purchase to watch it collect dust in a show case.
YMMV, 2 cents cashed.
-
Bummer about the bad slide. Everything I've heard about SA is that their stuff is usually better quality than that.
I would imagine they want to see the gun to find out exactly what they did wrong in the manufacturing process so it doesn't happen again. While it's a pain for you, it does make me feel better they're going to that trouble.
In the end you should get the quality gun you paid for in the first place. Just not when you wanted it. ;)
And yes, hunting and guns are my hobby. :D
-
SA usually has good quality for the more affordable guns. probably just got past quality control.
btw- as far as you 'probably too much oil' idea- excesive oil will not cause that type of problem. the only problem I've ever seen from to much oil is dirt and dust build-up and 'killed primers'
-
All the gun mags reviewed it well, and no one has anything bad to say about them so I hope it was a fluke, we shall see when it comes back though.
-
I don't know if there IS a 'gun-type', other than the over-used stereotype.
for example, I have one , my neighbors have one, etc etc.. me the IT guy, neighbor is a lift-operator (ski bum), etc etc..
-
Now if someone could just explain Golf as a hobby...
:D

-
I've been working on a new sport (been having trouble getting courses to let me play though  )
skeet golf- if your 'second' can shoot your badly hit ball before it lands, then you get to play it again, no penalty.
there's some golf I might play.
"looks like a long fairway, I may need the 10 guage for this one"

Golf is a game in which you attempt to knock a very small ball into a very small hole on a very large field with weapons singularly ill purposed to the task.

I'll bet they don't want any bad publicity or word of mouth about them....I'd be shocked if it didn't work perfectly when you get it back.
-
A gun is never safe unless u unload the ammo.
That is so much BS, a gun is just a tool, much like the lib jerk offs who refuse to see them that way.
I do not have children, but if and when I do, when they are old enough, they will be taught what the firearms are, and how to make sure they are safe.
When they are old enough to handle them, they will learn how to shoot. They will respect them for what they are, a deadly tool.
I will teach them much as my father taught me, and they will not ever have toy guns.
I have been around guns all my life, I first handled them when I was six. I have never had an accident. I have never shot anyone. I have never used them in any way that would endanger anyone.
I am sure your old clapped out bug is more a danger to people then any of my guns.
Guns are not the problem, criminals are, to blame a gun is to hide from the real problem, but hey I goes it is easier to blame an object then other people.
-
Very nice thoughts GtoRA2, however in children maturity is not something that is to be expected even with the proper training. Its for this reason that there is the Age Of Majority.
-
True enough, but that is for me as the parent to decide.
I was not allowed free access to firearms as a kid, nor will mine be until I am sure, like my father was when I turned 16, that I could be trusted.
Then he would go and buy the ammo, and I would pack the guns up, and drive to the range and shoot, unsupervised, the range didn't mind as long as I brought my own ammo.
I was very happy that he allowed that, and was very careful to never break the trust that allowed me to do it.

I agree. BS, pure and simple, BS.
You would teach your kids how to swim so they'll be safe around a pool. Then teach them about guns. And yes, it is that simple. And yes, I have a three year old step-daughter. And the lesons are already started.
-
No offence intended GtoRA2, Just too many cases of children shooting children accidently because of improperly stored firearms.
They way I read your post sent alarms off in my head.
-
None taken, I know the value of a good locking safe, and make sure the amunition is stored elsewhere also locked.
Hell my parents never had to worry about me and guns, not me and matches where a different story!

Fired my first round through an old remington .22 when i was about 5. Since then ive progressed to tournament shooting on a national level in skeet, as well as long distance rifle, and bianchi cup style pistol. All in additon to hunting that includes upland bird, waterfowl and wing shooting, to whitetails, rabbit and other small game on up to caribou. Using safety first and the 10 commadments of gun safety as an unbreakable code of conduct, i have never been present during any firearm mishap aside from a misfired muzzleloader that failed for nonuser reasons. All my life the notion of firing a weapon at someone unprovoked (read that as In Self Defense as a last resort) has never even crossed my mind. If it had i would hope i would execute sound enough judgement to get rid of all my firearms. Early in november i lost a very close friend because her jealous ex boyfriend saw fit to take her life, her friend's life, and his own. I still cry about this but i do not blame the gun. The kid (they were all only kids, the oldest being 22) had no prior experience that i am aware of with firearms, gun safety or hunters education and if he had i am sure it would have made a difference. I dont know how i would have reacted had he not taken his own life, though i am sure i would have volunteered to take it from him myself. but the point is this was going to happen, and he would have had no trouble finding a weapon regardless of gun control laws or any other measure liberals try to take to restrict the freedoms of law abiding gun owners. Fourtantely, ohio is about to pass a concealed weapons law and i will be able to defend myself if i am confronted with a similar act of senselessness. What chance does a two bit unskilled gang banger have of outshooting a national caliber pistol shooter? Guns arent the issue, its the criminal and the crimes. Enough about this though im starting to get teary eyed thinking about things. stay safe gents, and its the responsiblity of all gun owners (and 99.9% of all firearm owners are law abiding citizens) to act in a professional manner, and coduct yourselfs one level above the next man or woman. again, stay safe and good day.

Beetle 300,000 in past 25 years seems high ( 12,000 per year average)
Is that worldwide?
-
My old clapped BUG from 73' never made an accidant.
-And hey it's just what i learned from in the army "guns are never safe"
I know weapons shooting em is nice but i wouldn't one in my house.
I'm glad i live in a country where they are forbidden on the streeet
And no matter what u say these pro weapon talk is just to safe a whole industry (it's money talk).
And money is more important than lives especially in the USA
And than i don't see the link between my car and a gun.
And my car to that of anyone others
They both have some different purpose.
-
It is not about money, it is about a freedom we have in the States, and most of us want to keep that freedom.
Guns are illegal where you are from, great, but that won't stop criminals from using them.
A gun can be just as safe as a car, it is all about caution and training.
You 73 bug is an antique by today's car standards, and not a safe one, no air bags, sub standard brakes, no crush zones etc.
Not to mention it was probably made with used beer cans left over by the U.S. forces in Germany! :)
I would not want my kids riding in that death trap any more then I would want them around guns without proper supervision and training.
But I will not tell you to not drive it or preach to you about how it could kill you, nor would I advocate your government coming to take it away.
Freedom is more important that Granny laws.
-
skuzzy.. I find it more than a little interesting that you have heard that people who like firearms like them more than people but you then go on to say that you have never believed the gun propoganda. Could it be that you are selective in the propoganda you believe?
I don't really care how people feel about guns so long as they don't vote for more gun control.
Gto... my poor old worn out A1 allways locks back and shoots every grundgy round I feed it. I am starting to like that gun.
lazs
-
Very relative but not to my car.
Buying a 400 HPS fast sportscar by todays standards is much more dangerous than driving a 50hps beetle.
What freedom in USA ?
-To walk topless on the beach
-Lyrics in music are sensored
-To smoke pot etc.
U can start a militairy like organisation like the KKK etc.
WOW!!!!

That's because the Colt 1911 (made by Colt) is the perfect pistol. The several thousand rounds I've fired through my Series 70 Gov't model proves that.
Just as the Winchester Model 70 is the perfect rifle. :D
-
Gto how many gun and ammo factorys, stores live on this law.
The same reason why the cigarette industry still exists.
huh?

You can go nude an some beaches here...... what a great freedom to be so proud of.
What music is Censored? I see warning labels, but no censorship, hell there are all kinds of songs about kill cops and stuff.
To smoke pot? You think this is some kind of great freedom? That is a whole other debate.
Your car is not safe, and not even as close to as safe as a 400 hp sports car! lol You get hit by anything, and your car and probably you and your passengers are Toast.
Least that 400 hp sports car has modern features to keep it out of trouble like antilock brakes and traction control, not to mention all the other safety features.
It amazes me anyone could want to own a bug, they are crappy cars, do you have pants 5 sizes to big for you and wear your hat pointed to the side? Thats all I see driving bugs around here.
-
You argument is lame. You think gun owners should be out of business cause there product does its job? Making a comparison to the cigarette industry is pretty lame to.
Guns unlike cigarettes will never harm their user/owner if used properly.
-
Sigh but a 125hp motorcycle is much safer offcourse to
U don't understand i guess.
For that sportscar u need some experience to drive it dude
But anyone can drive it.
-

I would almost agree, the basic 1911A1 is a pretty damn good gun, but I have heard bad things about the ones coming from Colt now.
I would put my money on a Sig 220 for out of the box reliability and accuracy now..
I say the M1 garand is the perfect rifle!
-
Golfers experience creates a nice 'what if' scenario.
What if the jealous boyfriend couldnn't easily get a gun? Could he have killed all three easily with a knife?
Here it takes knowledge of the black market to get a handgun. Even then it ain't easy, and it sure ain't cheap.
I suspect a good number of firearms related deaths in the US is a gunowner or someone in his/her family using the gun on loved ones or friends/acquaintances.
The 'emotionally motivated' shootings is what worries me most with extremely lax gun regulation. A gun is a force multiplier - the risk of persoanl injury in an attack is great with fists, bit lower with knife, and much, much lower with gun.
Anyone have some statistics on this?
-
Maybe it is you who does not understand.
You car is much les safe then any modern car, your car Not your driving or anyone else's.
You car is a primitive unsafe automobile.
How it is driven does not mater.
I do not understand what your trying to get at, in your last post. Who is talking motorcycles? Or driving ability.
-
-Let me see my car is simple but not obsolete.
-Ever wondered why this car is still made ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
-Yep my car is old but not unsafe.
-Cars these days have ABS and all kinds off stuff
-But cars in the future have more options people than will say
that car u drive now is unsafe.
A bit ridicilus isn't it??
Take the mercedes A class for example it didn't pass the eland test.
This modern cars needs a electronic system to keep it on the road under some circumstances.
My beetle passes that test easily without electronic help.
Better these old cars like my beetle is made from pretty strong (german) metal.
U wish cars these days have that quality steel.
Ur opinion on the beetle is very far off
This car is not for nothing the most succesfull car ever builded
No other car will ever pass the beetles succes.
Take that.
-
Bug, hey you own it, I am glad you like it, and maybe where you from they do not have the same stigma they have here.
I have yet to meet a person in the states who owned a bug and liked it who was not a complete looser. They are the car of the looser teen who can not aford a honda in the states for the most part!
And take what, I think we still may not be understanding each other, the beetle may still be made in mexico or where ever, but they can't be sold new in the states since they do not meet our safety requirments for new cars. (I think)
Why are we even talking about this?

A 73 bug has crush zones?
LoL
I know enough about some cars, but never claimed to be an expert.

somehow.... the freedom to walk topless on the beach and to smoke pot till I'm stupid doesn't seem quite so important to me as being able to defend myself and others from tyranny from within or without.

Some holsters accentuate the topless, red-eyed look.
Might eliminate the concealed carry requirements.
:)

Hey look, this thread was hijacked.
Bug - you have no idea what youre tralking about firearms wise, do you? The only safe gun is an unloaded gun? Where did you hear this? There is NO such thing as a safe weapon. Didnt anyone ever tell you that all firearms are to be considered loaded at all times? Id would have more faith in a 9 year old Boy Scout with a rifle that I would with you - you'd probably end up pulling the trigger and killing someone in your attempts to find out how everything worked. If youre going to spout off on a topic you obviously have great passion for, get some facts first instead of eating everything your fed.
In addition - your argument regarding the "safety" of your 73 VW is rediculous... and your claim that horsepower contributes to "lack of safety" further condemns you to the ranks of the uninformed firebrands. I would rather have a brand spanking new 996 Turbo if I was required to AVIOD an accident or, god forbid, engage in one.
Merry trolling.
-
Saurdaur i was instructor in the army.
Don't tell me lessons.
A weapon is offcourse always unsafe.
Never point at anyone and i never did.
And Gto u know nothing about beetles
secondly i have another car i can afford a honda but i hate these high rev cars. They are just not beautiful to me.
I love german cars they have style .
It looks like a dork car huh ?
-
BUG_EAF - that looks like a 1303 with the curved windscreen and slightly elongated bonnet/hood. Do you have another picture of the back? My model is the one before that - no heater fan. So in the winter, I have piss-poor heating/demisting... tend to use the Golf! I don't mind what I drive, as long as it's German. :D
-
Tommorow i make a pic of my car i didn't drove it for a few months (to cold).
This one is not mine
But i do have a 1303 kind off same color(more dark)
:D
Just an example to how (oldfashioned) uncool dorky a beetle can looklike
-
So what did I get wrong about you bugs?
You are posting those picks to help your point?
LoL those cars are both so funny! In a sad way... lol

Duh you dork, GTO was stolen..... gee you think? Making fun of me for a Pontiac marketing decision made in 63 is so funny, dude you are lame, you are driving the right car.

'GTO' and 'GT' are European racing classifications. The Italian term, 'Gran Turismo Omologato', means Grand Touring class production vehicle, homologated for racing. The name came to mean a large, high-performance sports car comfortable enough for long trips or 'touring', as opposed to the smaller, less comfortable 2-seater 'true' sports cars.
So, if this is true, when Farrari named it's GTO a GTO, it's the same as if Dodge had named the Charger a Stock Car?
;)
-
Wow... Ive seen VW's with Porsche wheels before... but a fully fledged tail? Thats something new.
-
The second model is not my taste but it shows diversity.
No beetle is the same.

I should show some Buggy's,Baja's,Racing, original, custom bugs
to much to show.
Beetles will live forever :)

The thruth is the americans payed a lot to ferrari to wear that name.
