HT you have to do something these guys delight in killing the server OR the rank thing is causing a big problem at 9pm CST?

No, they need to fine the bug that is killing the servers. Nothing wrong with mass para drops.

Its acctualy not a bug, Troops are exactly the same as other weapons with the exception of 1 thing. They are brodcast to everyone because they can be killed, bombs and rockets are brodcast to only people in the area of the drop.

Now do a little math of say a 20 person troop drop with 500 people on line.

20 * 8 = 160
160 * 500 = 80000

So suddenly the servers trying to blast out 80000 messages all at once. Debating how to aleviate the bottle neck.

Not to bum on your math or anything but aren't there 10 troops ?

So your number would actually be 100,000 messages? But yeah thats still a whole lotta bandwidth to deliver those messages.

But my question is, why do you need to broadcast to everyone? Treat them as a Drone or a player, instead of an Object. This would mean though you kill one you get a kill, but make their ENY value .05 (so they get any perkies) The problem is the Kill/Hour and Kill/Death stats that would be effected, would it be possible to eliminate those certain kills from stats?

All of the times when I have been in the MA, and the server froze for a couple of minutes, it was because of massive troop deployments.  I am glad to hear that HT is working on the fix.

I don't see how this would make a difference.  Player info is broadcast to everyone in the MA too.

what about applying the same 'concept' of the VOX. only people in the area can see/view the troops. i'm sure it's prolly harder than it looks.

How 'bout not using AI for drunks? Force real players to man the C47's, that should stop the mass drops and slow the land grab a bit also ;)

C47's with troops were limited to 10k alt, that isn't high enough for the enevitable gas expansion that happens at higher latitudes ;)

Only fools and idiots resort to insult. Since ht admitted there is a problem which are you? Likewise biggun. You guys need to knock it off. I am here to play the game and not to play ego trip or one-uppers with you.

Lighten up a bit Vossy..I would hardly classify that as an insult. As far as the gpretty showing up in the MA, sure it is some jokester.

Original post was negative & would have been an insult, and against teh new spirit of the BBS, hence is why I rethought & edited out.

this issue comes up now and tehn, and by now most, if not al of the people who have been here for 6+ months know the effects of a mass goon drop.

what's wrong with simply...

policing ourselves to not do it?

if you see one in planning or action, tell them the effects, broadcast it on ch2 and ch1 - take a screen shot, private the planner, take a screen shot.

see where this is going?  it's pretty much almost a DOS attack or deliberate abuse of a bug...

if some people then decide to deliberately go along with the drop.. well....

I believe you have to broadcast to everyone or risk the invisible troops bug.  The downside to treating them like aircraft is that there are 10 of them... and there is a limit to how many aircraft you can view.

Its not just the bbs. It would be really great if everyone would mature and start putting peer pressure on countrymen. Im not without blame. I have often typed dammit or hell in the buffer but I try not to get insulting to others in the radio buffer. Sometimes all it takes is a few extra seconds of thought before hitting the enter key. None of us are perfect so it takes time and effort to break the old habits. Get on it and it may keep people happier in the arena and we may even see fewer burnouts. I will do what I can.
