Title: AH Mission Theater concerns
Post by: Squire on January 21, 2003, 02:49:24 PM
Ok, dont get me wrong, I think the future plans look good for AH, but I am disturbed by the rumour of maybe needing a seperate account for the "new" version.

One good way to start the downhill plunge into where other sims have gone (jnto the crapper), is splitting the player base.

Please dont. Have the new stuff under the same umbrella, If you need to charge us $20.00 instead of $15.00, Im ok with that, but please dont try to do what IEN has done: a bunch of seperate theaters in WBIII, 3 sims (WB 2.77, WBIII, and A.S.S.), and soon to be no more players if they keep it up.

Signed,

ex Warbirds player.

Long live HTC

I don't think of "splitting the community" as a bad thing; in some cases the community is better off split up.  HTC will do whatever works best for them.

Squire,

Remember sir, rumour is the operative word here. As I read through the other threads the question of separate accounts was not raised by Hi-Tech, he was looking for names. I agree separate accounts would impact the player base. We have two accounts in my house, currently costing $40.00 cdn per month total, plus DSL pushes the $100 envelope. I love AH, but push me further and the $100++ per month would take me out of the arena. I re-entered the virtual arena of AH because HT has a fabulous product at a cost that is manageable. I realize HT is not trying to write-off a T-34(hehe who-ha), but I hope things stay within reason cost wise, and attempts are made to keep the interest there for all, in a limited number of arenas.

My $0.02 cdn

Quote from Hitech on the Q. in the post "Two subscriptions required?"

"undecided.

 HiTech"

Call it what you want, the question is out there, and it should cause us to pay attention to whats going on, thats all. Undecided means just that, it could go either way.

Regards.

Not fan the flames of rumor, but if this is the case, this could be a problem.

Although I would plunk down my $15.00 a month for the Mission Theatre, I simply can not afford $30.00 a month. (Alright, I could afford it but....)

They split the community in Ultima Online. There was your PvP world and Non-Pvp world. This split up my guild, and 3 months later, my subscription was cancelled.

I'm afraid if we do this, we may see squads split up, and the squad is one of the main reason I fly AH.

Something you might want to think about is that one person can only be actively playing in one arena at a time; what HiTech may wind up with is setting up the pricing scheme so that you pay X dollars a month for 'AH Classic', Y dollars a month for 'AHII', and Z dollars a month for both, where the incremental cost of getting the other is less than paying for each one separately (i.e., one or the other is $15/month, but both is $20/month).

I am sure HTC can continue to learn from IEN's mistakes.

IEN/Warbirds folks can be quite useful at times...for showing you how NOT to do things.

I must say the evidence that splitting communities worked for any online sim doesnt seem to be there. I do have confidence that HTC will see that we are better off together, not apart.

Your comment on how it suggests splitting up the community was the cause of it's demise is way off the mark and completely incorrect.  Developer apathy was the cause, not having seperate arenas.  But that is neither here or there and now I return you to your regulary scheduled thread...
