Title: A Mo Better Means of Transport
Post by: Black Sheep on January 22, 2003, 01:05:20 PM
All hail the Gooney Bird!!!! BUT.........
I would like to see an armed transport in the future -
PBY or Ju52 - Just cant always rely on your teammates to stick with ya in that C47 all the time -

Another cool addition would be a transport large enough to drop/land armored vehicles. Adding to this - could be something to the way of transports offloading supplies to create a mobile base of operation ie. mannable and AI ack for defense - radar - hangar material for fighter manufacturing as well as runway material.  Build it and they will come. Just ranting ideas off...

Keep in mind that the Ju52 would be less survivable than the C-47A.  One 7.92mm machine gun ain't gonna scare any Spitfires or P-51s away and the 60mph speed advantage the C-47A has means you spend less time in the air being a target.

The PBY was not a tropp transport.

The Japanese L2D was a lincense built DC3 with more powerful engines and a light defensive armament.  The Russian Li-2 was a licsense built DC3 with a light defensive armament as well.  Either of these would be slightly more survivable and easier for HTC to add as they use the same polygon base as the C-47.

PBY did transport but not in the facet that we would use - Also it could bring ASR into play

I have often thought the Russian Li-2 would be a great variant to add to the AH lineup.  As I recall they did have better defensive weapons and the armor couldn't hurt.

As for troop transport...how about a Deuce and a half?  It would be faster than an M3 wouldn't it?

How about this for an idea:  With use of a truck you are allowed to load 1/2 the needed troops to take a field but allowed to load a base or vehicle supply pallet as well?  That way it takes two trucks to capture a base but it will also start the process of base re-supply.
