this thing turns like a mofo, and travels at 500 mph...
well I think speed is right but turning and climb is way too good...
-
show me the data!
-
I have no idea whether or not it is turning to well, but I don't think that it is climbing too well.
Seems to climb just about right to me.
-
And so it begins... again.

Well I found climb rate for Me-262: 3940ft/min(<-Edited,Thx Swager :)).
Me-262 was 800-1000kg lighter than P-47 (Both empty and max. weight) so I guess it really climbed that fast.

Not sure if these numbers are right but they might give some explanation.
Me-262 Empty weight 3800kg/wing area 21,7m2 = 175kg/m2 wingload.
Max. weight 7130kg/wing area 21,7 = 328kg/m2
P-47-D-30 Empty weight 4812kg/wing-area 27,9m2= 172kg/m2
Max.Weight 7900kg/wing-area 27,9m2=283kg/m2
Light Me-262 has almost same wingload than light P-47.

Something Me-262 is still mnissing:
Me 262A-1a Special Equipment
R4M air-to-air rockets
RATO installation of 2 x Ri 502
BMW 003R installation
Radar installation of FuG 350 Zc Naxos
under fuselage drop tank carrier for 500 litre fuel tank.
R110BS air-to-air rockets
Ru 344 (X4) air launch missile
;)
-
*Initial* climb rate of the Me262A-1 (fully loaded) was something less than 4,000ft/min, as Staga posted. At 6.000mt (about 19,700ft) climb rate was about 2,100ft/min. Time to 6,000mt was about 6'50".
-
True, It really doesn't climb too well over 20k. But its still fast as he_l up there :)
-
Well I guess climb is OK but how about turning?I can dogfight pretty much anyting in it,without really using any E management.
BTW I`m dedicated LW debating a LW plane being too good, does it qualify to the luftwhiner category?
-
LOL Staga, I posted those data to show that the Mossie climbs pretty well, imho, even at 20K :)
BTW, my little 205 takes more than 6' to get there ... Really, I thought the Schwalbe was a bad climber.

3940ft a second!! Whoa!!!
One fast climbing mofo!!!
:)
Staga, I know it is a typo, just ribbin ya! :)
Hey Staga, BTW, thanks for an alternate place to download. Much faster!!
-
big difference is that at 200 perks a pop we won't be seeing the skie full of 262s
-
yep exile.
i was stupid enough to take one up right as the MA opened for the 1st time.
flew around a bit, then got discoed :(
-
Caligula all I know is light Me-262's wing-load is only slightly worser than light Me-109G-6's, 175kg/m2 for Me-262 against 167kg/m2 for Me-109G6 if numbers I have are correct.
-
262 is a mere annoyance...Zigrat in his Mossie, well thats a different story!
I owe ya one....or is it two now :)
-
Actually the climbrate is not high enough.
The following picture shows a test of the me262 serial number 130170. This machine was changed for this test to a A-2 (fast bomber, blitzbomber). With 6400kg it is 300kg heavier than a A-1 fighter model. Furthermore the engines didn´t developed full power (~55atü compared to 62atü, green arrow)
Nevertheless, it climbed with 20m/s if you interpolate the climbrate down to sealevel (red arrow). Again, this was a heavier "Blitzbomber"-262 with less power than normal. (http://www.people.freenet.de/nik_mc/262-A2.jpg)
or check this picture, russian test (from buth2k i think - saved it a time ago):
and this was a captured me262...
