Title: Question about a little thing :)
Post by: RAM on September 10, 2000, 07:11:00 AM
Didnt know if post this here, in gameplay forums or aircraft&vehicles...

So as this is the general I will do it here   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I have noticed that now in a dive planes accelerate MUCH faster than in v1.03,even with chopped throttle and full RPM. I thought it could be that prop drag was somehow erased, but I just run a test offline (gliding with full RPMs vs lowest RPMs, engine cut), and the prop drag is still there

I have died only 3 times in compression dives in v1.03, but already have done it 2 times in main arena in two days   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif). Planes accelerate much more than before in dives.

the question is, why?. Not saying there is something wrong, but puzzles me, dives are now DANGEROUS   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)...and as rudder braking doesnt help too I am fearing to play the dawnlart too much in v1.04   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif).

THanks in advance

You can always trade "RAM" as a callsign for "Lawndart"... I am personaly thinking about "Easy target" myself  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Hummm...not a bad idea  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

guess I'd better put "RAM_ME". That way we could have some fun fights in MA  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

"lawndart" is where he got ram from.

Take the a, flip the w, take the r. Throw together randomly; ram.

This may be answer to CT and why its implemented. I kinda wondered about the dives. 10,000 lbs pointing down and going now where fast (like taking to long to build up speed). Just a thought.

Ram lawndart works fine (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif), Saw you always EZ-target so works also (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I find landings little hard to made in this version;
It took ages to slow down G-10 enough to extract flaps and gears. Good thing is I don't had to land too often  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Staga,

If the rare occasions that I DO land, I use the same trick that works in my real plane. I use the side slip with a little up elevator. To do this you inpute some rudder and cross control the ailerons the opposite side. In other words left rudder and right aileron with a bit of up elevator to help slow it as slips aren't "quite" modeled correctly. It's close but the rudder needs a bit more authority in the game. Do this while a little bit away and not on top of the strip so you have time to drop flaps, gear and line up.

Last thing I do is to "sit up" in the cockpit so I can see over the cowling as I am ready to flare onto te strip.

As do I.. but that barely works at all in this new version.

I kinda wonder if prop drag is really working anymore either.  The plane just refuses to slow down.

I think it does work still, AKdejavu. As I said in my first post I ran a test offline with cut engine. Variations on prop RPM made the glide change dramatically.

Dunno...but I still think that planes dont slow down fast enough.

Ram :-))) in real plane any plane when u DIVE whta it should say your instructor ??????????  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
,, wach the speed be carefull  ,, dive is so underestimated in many sims in real life just oposite,  also managet compres in a8  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
and hit the deck  well now i go carefull

Yes Maverick, That's how I'm trying to brake  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Also when closing the field I turn plane to its side with full rudder opposing way to drop alt without gaining too much speed. These planes are too "slick" now  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I cut power in an La5FN after hitting 300mph. Took FOREVER to slow down, even when trying to side-slip. Methinks drag needs to be increased when side-slipping, not to mention adding drag from the flaps when deployed. Hell you have to extend gear before the darn thing dumps speed at any real rate. So far this, and the drones not going down, are my only 2 beefs with 1.04.

Uh-oh - I thought it was just me... Leisurely split-S to dive on target (P51) I was going down fast before I knew what hit me.

"A-ha!" I thought, lets try P38 - dive brakes, anti-compression tabs all that crap. Hit the ground even faster (granted, never used dive brakes before and didn't have them programmed to any key (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)).

Found good ol' La5 way more contollable although side-slipping should have more pronounced effect. I have no hard data, just personal experience and what I've read on the effects of adding any aerodynamic imperfections at high speed.
