Hi All.
Does anybody know if more jet planes will be added to the game?
Planes like British Meteor, Mig 15,17
F86, French SuperMister, Vampire
Later jet planes maybe?
WarBirds are planning to add Korean War Planes,
does Hitech will do the same or they work on WWII planes
only?

they only use planes that saw active service in wwII
-
The Gloster Meteor might and MAYBE the F-86, but I doubt the other 2 will
-
Just give me an F-8U Crusader and I'll never whine about an LA7 again!
-
Give it up guys...HT is just not open minded about this topic..
I have been begging for a Hawker Hunter since this game was in Beta...But for some strange reason, known only to HT..we still dont have it.

Puke, you can have your Crusader... but I'll take a MiG-19 ! :)
Maybe someday.... sooner or later. But I'd say sooner. ;)

HEY PUKE
! You da Man! Am a fellow "Sader" fan - will wing with you.

Andi, and you have the right markings to boot! VF-24 and 211 are the bomb!
Verm, I'll take you up on that. That would prove a very good fight, the MiG-19 has excellent thrust compared to the MiG-17 yet more maneuverable than the MiG-21. So what has you thinking sooner than later? Inquiring minds are dying to know what you know.

Puke, send me some email at vermillion_c@hotmail.com . I tried to private message you thru the board and it says you have that feature turned off.
PS thats an underscore between the n and the c, this bbs underlines email addies

VF-211 "CHECKMATES" is my favorite. They were the top scoring Crusader Squadron during the Vietnam War with 8 MIG-17 Kills.
"MIG MASTERS"
-
Verm, I clicked your link and sent you an e-mail.
Andi, it's them Crusader pilots that taught everyone BFM during the Vietnam War...USN and USAF included. Too bad that by 1972 the Crusader squadrons still in the theater were relegated secondary roles that would provide little possibility of MiG encounter, or else that score would have continued. I believe, off the top of my head, only VF-96 beats out those 8-kills with 9-kills, and VF-96 were there from day-1 to mid-late 1972. VF-211, that's my bird!
-
VF-96 "FIGHTING FALCONS" had 10 MIG kills (Confirmed) during the Vietnam War - 8 MIG-17's & 2 MIG-21's. 5 of these kills were by one crew - Lt. Randy Cunningham & LtJG Willie Driscroll.
All of VF-96's kills were in the F-4 PHANTOM II. VF-96 got it's first kill in 5/68 - almost 10 months after VF-211 got their last kill.
Agree - once the Phantom's came online with the fleet the Crusaders flying from the smaller ESSEX class carriers were relegated to Flak Suppression while the Phantoms got the MIG CAPS & TAR CAPS.
-
Like I said, it was off the top of my head. So you counted 10...it's really 11 because now they do count that ChiCom MiG shot down in 1965 under really mysterious circumstances. Well, actually, what's mysterious is the loss of the F-4 which may have been downed by another F-4.

Another issue with the Navy squadrons getting kills were the tactics of the Vietnamese themselves. Evidently the Vietnamese prefered to engage the Air Force strikes with their better fighters and more experienced pilots, particularly during the later Linebacker campaigns in 1972. Leaving the ground based air defense systems to deal with Navy Strikes.
This was due to the advantages the Navy had over the Air Force. In particular the ability to steam the Carrier Task Forces farther north, giving the Navy planes more endurance and the protection of a SAM umbrella to run too if in need.
The Vietnamese felt that they got more "bang for the buck" you might say for committing their fighters against the AF since they had farther to fly. Even small amounts of damage were more deadly, and it was even possible to engage them and run them low on fuel, risking crashing the planes later.
Being able to go "Feet Wet" was a huge advantage for the Navy pilots.

Vermillion - to elaborate a little on your post - this is the record of "Claimed" kills by the 921st SAO DAO (Red Star) FIGHTER REGIMENT VPAF. This unit flew both the MIG-17 & MIG-21 at the same time.
If you will notice there are many more USAF planes listed than USN. But that is not conclusive as the USAF flew more sorties than the USN did.
921st FR KILLS:*
--------------------------------------
4 x F-8 Crusaders
26 x F-105 Thunderchief
39 x F-4 Phantom (USN & USAF)
1 x F-102 Delta Dagger
4 x A-1 Skyraider
1 x A-4 Skyhawk
2 x B-52 Stratofortress
2 x RF-101 Voodoo
1 x RA-5 Vigilante
3 x EB-66 Skywarrior
1 x HH-53 Jolly Green Giant
5 x Firebee Recon Drones
*Keep in mind many of these claims have no match in reported US losses but it gives you an idea of how the air war was fought.

Getting back to the original topic of this thread, I would expect only 2 more jets in AH, if not just 1.
Firstly the Gloster Meteor who was already operating in the theatre of war in 1945, or even late 1944. Although not encountering German planes to fight with, they did shoot down V-1 flying bombs. BTW, a V-1 would be nice to have in AH:D
Secondly, the Henkel-162, who was operable and did enter combat.
Don't think there's more to add, since we have the Arado, 262 and 163.

The thing about differences between USN and USAF going to RPVI a and b is that the USN was right off the beach which had a direct result as to why the USAF saw a lot more of the MiG-21. This was because the USAF was detected a lot further out and the Vietnamese had the time to position their MiG-21s correctly. Typically there were a few holding patterns where the MiGs would be directed out of and towards the strike. The USN didn't have as far to go and didn't offer as much time to plan a defense as the USAF strikes. The MiGs also wouldn't venture into the gulf either due to the Talos armed cruisers which did score a couple kills. And then we can get into the USAF tactics...four fat F-4s in welded wing flying off lead. But I've never read anything about the best pilots being reserved to hit USAF.
