Title: Exerpts from our weapons law
Post by: StSanta on January 24, 2003, 11:50:33 AM
My recent encounter with those Somalis again made me check our weapons law to see if there are any way one can legally own a tool of self defence. I came across something I'll roughyl translate:

§14. It is prohibited to without permission from the police chief to obtain, own, carry or use the following:

1) Sharp weapons or stabbing weapons where the blade is more than 12 cm.
2) Knives with a grip allowing thrusts (push daggers)
3) Stilettos and other spring operated knives.
4) One hand operated knuves such as folding knives with a grip split in two, including butterfly knives.
5) Clubs or other equivalent hideable weapons
6) Weapons used to punch or crush, including knuckleiron, 'totenschläegers', rubber nightsticks and the like,
7) Weapons that paralyze by use of electric current
8) Throwing stars, throwing knife and similar weapons
9) Spray cans used for self defense, including teargas, teargas ampulls, spraycans - and loads to the latter.

Punishment for violation of §14 for a first time offender is a fine or under aggravating circumstances jail for up to two years. For people with a previous conviction the punishment is up to two years in jail.

That's it. Talked to the police; when I asked what I was to use for self defence they said 'call us - that's what we're there for'. When I asked how much good that'd do if it takes 60 seconds to kill me and they take 10 minutes to get here, the cop merely said 'not my fault, talk to the politicians'.

So basically we're not allowed to carry ANYTHING that can be used for self defence. If I carry, say, a bicycle chain I can be jailed. Knives with a blade less than 12 cm is ok I gather - maybe we can carry that and flaunt it as much as we want.

Dinnae think it was this bad. Removing all options of self defence. Not even pepper spray or tazers are legal. Sick ainnit?

Well, it was nice knowing you.

BTW, I wonder if the bad guys in your country know they are violating the law by having those nasty weapons and guns and such.  I bet they'd turn them all in to the police if they only knew.

Maybe this guy is reasonable and will let you carry some kind of weapon for these circumstances.  Have you petitioned him directly?  Remind him how it would effect his carreer if he denied you a weapon and you turned up dead.

Yes ra, he said that the circumstances don't justify it. Something along with 'then everyone who've been threatened would be coming runnning to me'.

It's so stupid it's not even worth commenting :/

Santa,

Do you mean you don't think the government is taking adequate measures to protect you?!?!?!?!?!

You could emigrate you know. I'm sure it's better in Great Britain......oops sorry

maybe Austraila....nope dead issue there too.

Maybe another European country will be better... nope no good there too.

Guess as they say, "You're on your own Son".
(Preacher to "hero" in Blazing Saddles.)

Damn shame the "civilized" Euros thinnk you are incapable of defending yourself. How dare you deny the offender the pleasure of your death!

Think..... there might be anbother "uncivilized" country that thinks your life might be worth enough to let you defend yourself......

I think St. Santa should immigrate to Somalia. He can have whatever kind of gun he wants there.  ;)

According to that law, a common hammer is illegal since it is essentially a concealable club.   Basically the law can be intrepreted to ban whatever the government wants banned.

We in the states have a term for laws like that.

Chickenshit

Nice knowing ya Santa, just try to find relief in the fact that your ever-caring government will probably try to rehabilitate those somalis after they kill you.

as I posted in your previous post.  the trick is to find a weapon that you can explain why it's on you.

like the fact that a hammer fit's into the weapon description but a carpenter wouldn't get busted for carrying one.

something like that.  or you could start talking to all your freinds and see if you could manage to change that sill assed law

Yah Scholtz; it was cool. Especially liked the CNN stuff, was LOL bigtime. Had spit on my monitor - a wonder it dinnae short circuit :D.

That Somali woman is due out from jail in three days. had a visit from her friends just prior to starting this thread - nothing happened though. Police were here to evict one of the HA supporters. With police AND HA here, they didn't even dare to threaten me.

Might not be so lucky next time. Seems my government expect me to hope that it'll remain at threats. And after my inquiry to the police chief, it seems now the police know me. One even said (smiling) 'you don't have any concealed weapons on you, have you?'. Not sure what to make of that - he might condone it privately but not publicly. No idea.

A baseball bat and quick feet and an odd exit through an open window seem to be my best alternatives for now :(.

If I haven't got any response from ETI A/S by the 1st, I'll start to look for jobs abroad. New Zealand sounds good.

Maverick - seems you have no concept of what it's like to live in an unarmed society. Indeed, to many it is inconceivable. But as far as I can tell, very few other countries arm everyone. Only the US arms everyone, including nascent criminals. And yet the homicide rate in those unarmed countries is lower. I don't just mean Britain. Funny that...

Maverick, have you ever been outside the US? (Crossing the border to Canada or Mexico for the day does not count) Do you hold a passport?  I am moderately well travelled, although Singapore and Indonesia are the only places I've been in the southern hemisphere. Been to most European countries, but not Scandinavia. Never been to Africa. And yet... despite all of those societies being unarmed (but with armed police) none has a homicide rate which even comes close to that of the US. Funny that...

Yeah Beet1e, I'm sure it's a big load off of St.Santa's mind that European countries have a lower homocide rate.  Hell, he could have that engraved on his tombstone!

Heh, you should have asked (smiling) if he had one you could borrow.  Good luck with the scumbags, hopefully they find some other crime to distract them.

so Beet1e, do you really live in an 'unarmed' society? I don't think so.. It seems you live in a 'Law- Abiding Citizen Unarmed Yet with Armed Criminals' society.  Yes, your country has this Utopian goal of smiling-happy people living their lives.. very noble.. but they forgot to lock the gates when normal people came in.. some of whom have malicious and anti-social intent. It doesn't matter which country you live in, some will commit crimes on others.

The difference is that we have the option and right to defend ourselves.

get back to us when your country doesn't have any more criminals and we will listen how great it is to live there.

the policeman was telling you to arm yourself . dont be a fool . get a weapon and if you use it learn how to  get rid of it.

jesus dont you have bikers where you live . go ask one how to defend yourself the thug way . there is always a way. walk around with a pillow case full of coke cans at the worst.
