Anyone got any good tips for the Ki61 (not the bomber)?

shoot it down:)

Fly it like a 109. It compresses fast (I think >450 is bad). It can turn when you want it to. Use flaps for low speed turns. Ammo is short so use it in precise bursts and at close ranges.

Someone, somewhere out there made a really great looking historical gunsite for the "Hien" (pron: hee-en) aka "Tony". I can't remember where I found it, but it shouldn't be too hard to find if you're interested.

Think of it as being very similar to the C.205, but easier to spot from long distances. It turns, but not as well as a Spit, FM2, or A6M. Its the fastest of the Japanese planes, but not as fast as a Corsair, Mustang, LA-7, Yak, or FW190. It has cannons, but the accuracy is about the same as with the C.202 so you'll want to close within 250 before letting loose with the guns.

You mean other than the C.205 being faster, climbing better, having more than double the ammo load and doesn't not compressing anywhere near as soon the are very similar? The C.205 ought to eat the Ki for lunch so long as the 205 pilot doesn't let it become a turn fight.

It's pretty darn close to the LA-7's cannon. Muzzle velocity is a bit less but the round weighs about the same and seems to drop off about as fast. You might score a luckly hit with the 12.7s out to 600 but hold the 20's for under 250. For some reason I can shoot better with the Ho-5 than the B-20 although, from paper, it should be just the opposite.
