Title: Appreciation
Post by: DukeMskt on January 28, 2003, 12:24:03 PM
I was watching Shane teach a fella why its not the plane(paper or otherwise) but thr driver last night. He was in a P-40, and the "trainee" was in a KI. The gent in the KI was taking a real beating. But NEVER gave up. I see alot of that in CT, and I think the fellas deserve a WELL DONE for thier efforts against some of the best the game has to offer. The "old timers" seem to be genuinly interested in helping (and it dosn't hurt thier stats ether!LOL!) get the new ones off on the right foot. I also noticed what seems to be real manners in CT, with a minimum of morons(you can never get rid of all of them, the game would be boring) also, I see alot of class shown by most all. My hat's off to you gentlemen.
It is a real pleasure to "fly" with you all...Dukemskt.

Well there's also the issue of the fact that the P-40E is horribly under-rated by most players  :D

In combat up to about 11,000 feet, it's every bit a match for the Ki-61.  The KI is still the better plane thanks to other factors (more bombs, better climbrate at non-combat power settings, better high-alt performance, quite a bit faster, etc), but the KI pilot shouldn't under-estimate the P-40E in a dogfight.

10K is the altitude where the P-40 is best versus the KI; at that altitude the P-40 has roughly a 250 FPM climbrate advantage.  Even on the deck the P-40 can outclimb the KI by about 100 FPM.

The p40 out handles the ki as well. both slow and at speed,  course I would still rather be in the ki.  Acceleration is 100% of that battle.

Ask Shane how much of a hurry he is to jump back in that P40

Dukemskt,

Palmer!

My parents live in Palmer!  Right off the Palmer Wasilla Highway.

They lived on Wasilla Lake for about a decade.  I was pretty transient and called it home for quite awile as well.  One of my brothers lives in Wasilla and ownes Gorilla fireworks.  My other brother lives in Anchorage and plays AH, in the CT (Oosik).

My wife, kids and I get up North about once a year and should be up this summer.

Where exactly do you live and work?  How long have you been up there, etc?

P.S.,
Glad to see that you saw the good side of Shane!  (Was the moon blue? :) )

Yes Eskimo, we met at the AH convention. I met your brother Usik
in Anchorage where he flew our simulator. As for Shane, I never paid much attention to him till last night. He was very helpful to the new guy and encouraging as well. I see that alot in the CT, it has more of a friendly atmosphere than most sim games. As for being in the room more, Hell, I all but LIVE there! (and I still have suckie stats! LOL!) And as long as I am on the subject, I wish to commend the CT staff for all thier hard work and devotion to duty.
They have done a TREMENDOUS job, and I thank them all...(ok, everything has a glitch once and a while LOL!!) You guys are, as I said before, a classy bunch..(so why you let me in??) Regards from an old airplane driver...DukeMskt.

i'm usually pretty helpful when it's "quiet" and the guy(s) are actually trying and not just taking the easy way out.

Ah yes, hello again!

I recall, and can picture you, now.
Sorry that your name didn't stick with me.  I've flown in the CT almost exclusively since it became an option over a year ago.  I don't think our paths have crossed often with AK being 4 hours earlier...
Anyway, welcome to the CT! (although I see that you already have been "living here" for the past month).
