Title: CT fleet weirdness
Post by: Shane on January 28, 2003, 05:33:27 PM
since that reset, and the ensuing "fix" i've been seeing weirdness with the fleets not being where they actually "appear" to be while flying around them.  film is showing differences from what one is actually "seeing."

here's an example (one in which the difference is minor compared to some of what I've been seeing.)

the picture shows the view from film (left) while the right shows a screen shot i took while on that flight.  if you notice the alitmeters show the same alt... the compass on the film seems frozen (shrug)... but the angle and the alt are what make this two pictures showing different perceptions on my FE at the time, film vs screenshot.

Whoever responds to this thread, make sure that you don't let Shane find out about "The Conspiracy"!

And here I thought it was just HTC modeling the "Philidelphia Experiment."

heh.  i already mentioned the philadelphia experiment.  :D

here's another - left = film, right = screen shot

notice the top ammo counter is the same for both.  i had dropped an egg which is why the film shows full ammo load on bottom counter - a film bug/feature.

i'll just wait and laugh when you log on and try to sink some fleets.

:D

here's another...  *something* must be broken to have this be occurring.  the cr in the left piture is just above the first frame, just off the right/center above the gunsight. u can barely see the edge of it.

Can you still hit/damage the ship online?

If so, could be a problem with the film playback.     Does the film viewer in AH itself show the same wierdness?

apparently not... or i'd have sunk several CR's over the day...

yes, re the ingame viewer; the same weirdness... here's a screenie... same alt and everything.. 4,180 or so. it jibes with the offline viewer.

Hmmm..... wasnt one of the CT staff guys questioning over the weekend why a fleet suddenly disapeared?   I wonder if the two are tied together?

BTW,  Shane how do you take pictures from the film viewer ?
and post them on the web?

I was in the film/pictures forumn and all I found was hit "shift S"
????

Thanks,

Jospe

shift - S  or rather alt-S, will take a screenshot of either actual in game play, or from the in-game film viewer (not the ahfilm.exe that you saw in most of my shots), alt-s will do nothing in the offline viewer.

the post directly above yours is a screenshot from the in-game viewer cut and edited for size, the rest of the above are from actual in game screenshots and the offline viewer, cut/pasted and edited into one final product.

the easiest way would be to use the in-game viewer (the "film" button on the splash screen) and watch the film and hit alt-s to take a screenie. it's of course saved as a huge 3 meg .bmp file that you should convert to .jpg with a program like ms paint (save as...). it'll be much smaller, but still most likely too big to post on the boards. there are other programs that will compress and reduce the pictures to a managable size, probably sacrificing some quality in the process.

however, what i gather you're really asking is how i managed to snag a screen capture of the offline film viewer (and combined it with an in game screenshot).

i call up the film viewer.. determine what point i want the screen capture to be and pause the film. then i open ms paint. then i hit the print screen key (and here you thought it was a relic holdover on keyboards with no use. you might have to do something to enable that print screen key to work - it's been so long since i did that i forgot what i did, hehe.)

after hitting print screen, i go to mspaint and "edit" and "paste" what it did is captured the whole of my actual computer screen.  then i simply cut out what parts i wanted to use and open a new file and edit/paste that cut to it then save.

if i want to add something else to that i repeat the process and add that new piece to the one i just did. since it'll still be too big, i cut out only the part necessary to get it to a postable size (takes experience to know about how much you can do - all of mine were about 60-80kb for the final product).

when i'm happy with the finished product i save it as a .jpg.  i leave them as .bmps til i'm done because mspaint can't edit .jpg to my knowledge. other programs can.

does this answer your question?

Wpns, Yeager and I thought something was odd with the fleets, we droped about 5 to 6 torps apiece from Kates and could never get any hits,,,, now I am not the best torp bomber but between the three of us we should have at least got one hit

Shane thanks for the help,  I will try it.    I had a nice film shot of plane between cloud layers.  Wanted to take a picture of it and set as wall paper.

Actually, HT said he doesn't believe it is a 'bug'. He contends that the person designing the TG forgot to set some flag or another. This person might want to contact HT to clear it up :) .
