Title: Will the new TOD replace the CT?
Post by: daddog on January 28, 2003, 11:53:17 PM
Wondering if you will replace the CT with Aces High II TOD or if you will keep the CT as is?

5 bucks says they say nothing till they do it, or dont:)

Besides If their going to I dont want to know, till they do, it would not be good for my moral leval, and that is important to me doing a good job for the CT.:)

Back when the AH2:Tour of Duty was referred to as the "Mission Theater", Hitech suggested they would start with the 1944 air war over Germany.

The CT will remain the only place to fly Japanese, Russian, Finnish, and even US Navy planes against their historical adversaries.  I hope they leave this opportunity available for players when TOD finally does start, unless there will be a "theater of operations" concept built into TOD...

Maybe they will have two fronts,  ETO and PTO ??   that would be cool.  You could put in for a transfer to one theatre or another.

Cant wait for this.

Are you getting rid of the main arena in AH2?

No. AH2 will be divided into two branches of gameplay, AH2: Classic – this is just a new name for the arena format that we use today, and AH2: Tour of Duty – a polar opposite of the Main Arena format.

my english is good enough to understand that like that

AH II Classic

MA
CT
TA
DA
SEA

AH II - TOD
TOD Arena

clear and bright enough?

does not specifically address if the CT will remain.

I love the CT, but in many respects the new TOD might make it obsolete (and in some aspects our events) and I want to know what they are considering.  They may not have even looked that far ahead yet. I don’t know, but want to know what stand “if any” they have on the CT.

CT cannot be compared to future TOD. I dont see any reason why HTC had disband this arena. CT is a part of AH2 Classic for me.

Pyro its "undecided"?

Special Events will still have a place though.  The players control the missions in special events, while the AH2:TOD the missions will be automatically generated.

Not to mention the AI buffs and GVs.  I am sure many of our Special Event goers will still want events where all the planes in the air are human controlled (well, minus the buff drones, but those are still slaved to the human player.)

I think the same still goes for the CT, though it really depends on how long the TOD tours last.  The CT rotates every week, and if the TOD does that (which I doubt) then the CT loses its niche.  If the TOD rotates just monthly (or more,) then the CT can offer alternatives to those that dislike the current TOD theater and the MA environment.  The question is does HTC want to offer this alternative?

ToD and CT are unrelated other than having an overlapping appeal.  If the CT goes unused, then it will eventually be closed as that's one less thing to have to maintain.  Whether that's going to happen, I can't say.  I could see a situation where ToD totally displaces the use of the CT.  I could see a situation where the CT gains popularity as a good place to sharpen their skills for ToD.

Also, as Nifty mentioned, the ToD will not displace scenarios.  Some people have worried about "little generals" ruining ToD, but that's not how it works.  It's a simulation of being a combat pilot in WWII, not a simulation of being Eisenhower in WWII.  Scenarios give people the opportunity to carry out their own elaborate strategic planning and scenarios have the time between frames to do that.

Was just thinking about that.   In the last PTO set up I would have loved to have had the P38 at one of the back bases.   I know the L model would have been over modeled for the time period.   I think it was the J model that was there?   By the way Brady  ... really enjoyed that set up.   Good job to you and the other CT guys.
