Win2k
P4 2G
256 PC2700 Corsair
ATI 8500 AIW, 128megs etc
SB Audigy2, no Apple IPod or anything plugged in, all normal clock speeds.
Latest DirectX, ATI drivers, no usual suspects, explorer.exe killed, no antialiasing etc, any game resolution and still it stutters even on the opening screen.
..
set priority high and stutters less but longer.

For the radeon..

Sometimes latest is not the best, especially with an old card like yours. (I assume ATI has unified drivers..)

higher priority kills net status: 100 packet loss outside and massive warp if done from after entering arena.
(note the ugly in game font since using this vid card)

Updated to latest unified drivers "catalyst" because of stutter with original drivers.

Oh yes, and don't mess with the priorities if you already have problems to start with :)

Set everything to stock, run a virus scan with latest definitions and try at least 2 different versions of drivers, both sound and video.

If that won't fix it then you're officially in trouble.

stock, you mean safe mode? or kill all the non vital processes (lots) ?
I have no virus scanner as I've never caught a virus of any kind since 4yrs using the net in the USA, so that's not possible atm.

I will look around the sound system but otherwise too bad.

Dude if you have no virus scanner how can you know if you're infected or not?

Go to http://www.fsecure.com and download the 30-day free trial to scan your system.

I also reckommend running the fxbugbear tool before even installing the virusscanner.

Bugbear will make your puter do weird stuff.

edit: Stock means default speed i.e. non overclocked, tweaked etc.

Set your sound card hardware acceleration down to 3/4.

Check to see if something is sharing interrupts.

Hi skuzzy,

I did that in the performance settings in the my computer right click > properties menu, and in the dxdiag program, did not change anything.
I had updated the sound drivers too.
I closed task manager after alt-tabing out to see what the stutter frequency was coinciding with cpu-usage-wise, and task manager itself was it: stuttering stopped.

But it's still necessary to open and close task manager after starting AH the first time into windows logon even if it wasn't running as AH started.
last time i looked no interupts were shared.

go figure..

Do you have any comment on the font ?
radio buffer and hangar text is fine but plane icon, gunner position, damage list, and ctrl-i display etc all are distorted.

doubtful, it's the fourth reformat re-windows in a few months, everything on the pc is checked before installed.
Anyway the stutter is gone, thanks for the help.
