Title: Greatest feeling ever
Post by: SFRT - Frenchy on June 11, 2000, 11:01:00 AM
I'm collecting pilot thoughts on their 'greatest feeling'. All I have so far is :

a Flying Tiger pilot: "there is no greatest feeling than being 19 and flying combat missions"

a Korean war pilot: "there is no greatest feeling than being shot at and missed".

One of my previous flight instructor :"there is nothing as loud as a silent engine".

If you know some around the same subject, please feel free to enrich my poor collection.

Recovering from a hopeless situation at the very last second, not knowing how in the damn world you did it, and joking about it all the way to the ground.

"I'm down here by myself.  I'm chasing 30 109s.  I'm about to catch them.  You'd better hurry up.  It's gonna be a hell of a fight!"

Johnny Eaves to the rest of his 56th FG squadron, March 1944.

(Eaves did in fact engage all 30 109s.  He shot down two and damaged several others)

This ain't no famous quote, but...

The greatest feeling ever is the feeling of you get in the middle of a fight 2 seconds after you remember to release the drop tank.
