Finally the word is out! We have planned another WWII flightsim enthusiasts
Euro-Convention in The Netherlands this year! But on a different location than the
previous Cons. The con is now being organised in a small but very cosy town in
the North of The Netherlands. The place is called Grou, a friendly town surrounded
with beatifull lakes and close to Air Force base ’Leeuwarden’ which will play an
important role in our program this year.

Euro-Convention, The Netherlands 2003. Don't miss it!
The Euro-CON Ops. room is buzzing with activity. Again we think we can serve you
one of the best times you ever had. If you have been there the past two years,
you might remember what a great time was had by all.
One day extra... more fun for the same money.
That's right. This year the fun starts on thursday already. 4 days in total for
170 Euro's. It was just too much to stuff it in 3 days, so we needed that extra
24 hours :-) Check the schedule on the EuroCon website to see what we have
planned and how you can register.
Pilots of WarBirds, Aces High, WW2OL, IL2 and Target Rabaul are invited
No matter what game we play, we all share a passion for ww2 aviation and
air-combat. This 'thing' we have in common is beyond the game we play. And
there's nothing more enjoyable than meet your virtual friends and enemies face
to face... in real life... Scary thought huh?
Its for the third time in a row that the 1st.ROF Dutch squadron organises the
Euro-Convention. Four long days and short nights filled with playing, discussing
games, advanced combat maneouvres; with one hand in the air visualising that
killer-ace move and a beer in the other.
Its this relaxing character of the EuroCon which made it 'famous'. An event you
just have to attend. And we, the Orange Dweebs having so much fun organising
it all for you!
We have worked hard to serve you yet again a great program, the Euro-Cart
championships ofcourse, a special "Massacre" event, a trip to the Air Force base
of the Dutch 322 Squadron and more new items have being added to the schedule.
Its all published --in full detail-- on the new site!
Now let me stop talking and invite you to our
EuroCon website. http://www.1strof.com/eurocon
On behalve of the Crew I hope to meet you
as our guest on 10, 11, 12 and 13 April this year!
Oh man... I wish it was April already :)

Woohoo! Another Eurocon. :)
The subject title is derived from my groans of dismay when flying with my squad, the Royal Orange Flames of the Netherlands, who are also the hosts of this most marvellous event. In WB, we had an RPS, and while I thought that was a good thing, the early planes were a challenge for me. ;)
For those of you wavering about coming, waver no more. 170 euros? it's nothing! And for that, you get to see PJK drunk. :D Hehe, by the end of the day you get to see everyone drunk.
As always, my biggest challenge will be to survive the go-kart race. Will Sascha the Krasha be coming? I've got toothache just thinking about it - lol!
-
80% likely to make it.
Just don't let me get near that spit, I just might light it up for laughs :D

Deadlines?
I love deadlines... especially the whooshing sound they make as they pass by...

First payments are getting in. The ball is rolling!
The website is just up for 6 days and already received 360 hits!
The respons of the flightsim communities from Aces High, Warbirds (+EU),
wwiiol and Target Rabaul is great. If all the pilots responding by
email and forum-replies all plan to come, we have a problem ;)
• Warbirds Europe, just introduced on february 1, published EuroCon
news item on their EU-WB homepage (http://www.war-birds.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=27).
• Hatch from WWIIOL already sent me 6 special edition boxes of the sim.
Four for PC-dweebs and 2 for Maccateers. You can win them as prizes
after the Thursday Night Massacre event. (http://www.1strof.com/eurocon/program.html)
• Warbirds confirmed that all guests at the EuroCon with $10.- accounts will
be flagged during the con. Besides that BROKEN stated we will receive
warbirds-free accounts and some free-flying certificates! Thanks mate!
• Target Rabaul will do something very special during the Con. Even before
the sim based in the PTO goes 'open beta' Yak stated we will get a special
treat! All positive I expect... hopefully ;)
• No news yet from the Aces High developers HTC, but the respons of the
community is heart-warming. Already a couple of regulars have signed the
roster!
• Regarding IL-2... I do not have any contacts at Oleg's dome, so if anyone
can spread the EuroCon news overthere, or give me an emailaddress which
I can contact, please let me know!
Bankinfo updated on the site
We updated the bank-info where you transfer the con-fee to. From a few
guys outside Holland there were a few questions asked. With the new
information published on the EuroCon site (http://www.1strof.com/eurocon) we think we solved your problems.
Please be noted we only have room for approx 45 dweebs, so make sure
you do not wait too long before going to your local bank!

THE EUROCON DWEEB 500
The EuroCon Dweeb 500 ’Endurance’ on saturday will last 1 hour and 18
minutes, that's 78 minutes filled with adrenaline! New thing is we compete
in teams (Squadrons) this year! We start with 5 practice laps first. Than
hell breaks loose....
Each Squadron-member (a squad consists of 4 pilots each) will drive
appox 20 minutes, or more or less that's up to your CO ofcourse.
The CO is either a driving team-member or an extra 'attached'
non-driving member. So a squadron consist of 4 drivers and -additionally-
a teamcaptain.
Now if you plan to come, it might be wise to find your team-mates, e.g. form
a squadron. We encourage people building their own team, otherwise the
EuroCon-Crew takes the liberty to put you in any team... (we do accept
bribes of course ;-). If you head to the EuroCon forum (http://pub36.ezboard.com/f322ndsqn1strofthenetherlandsfrm12) you can start
forming your racing-squadron already!
So far so good! More news soon... stay tuned or subscribe to the EuroCon
email-newsletters. Just drop me an email (veninga@hscg.nl) with subscribe
to newsletter in the subject header.
Be good, fly safe!
-
Wow, a Con, and in my country too! Ok, it's 300km away but who cares, for an American that would be a trip to work :D
Definitely going to visit the website.
I saw some Gemans on-line and some Belgians too in AH, but are there actually Dutch people flying out there? Is there actually a Dutch squad (or maybe a German, Dutch, Belgian, UK combo or something)? Been looking for a squad that would admit an average casual player from Europe, would be great flying with people I could actually meet some day.
And that guy form Germany who want to visit FEBO? ROFL! That must be the most unhealthy food imaginable! I would still like to explain the concept of a 'kroket' or fries with satay sauce to an American :D
-
Lapwin! Last time I went to pay for the Eurocon, I found that the bank transfer procedure given on the Eurocon website (http://www.1strof.com/eurocon/) involved a bank fee of £13. That's about 20 Euros! If all 45 people attending the con had to pay this fee, that's 900 Euros - money that could otherwise be spent on more important things like beer. Of course, the problem is greatly simplified for those Europeans living in countries which adopted the new currency. Some of us did not. :(
Last year I was able to meet up with Cees and paid cash. Is there any alternative to paying that outrageous bank fee?
-
heya Alan :)
Please drop Flower an email. He's handling the bank-stuff now.

cheers!

Thrilling news... its not 100% sure yet, but 95%... the 2 winners
of the thursday online 'massacre event' will have the virtual
dogfight of their lives on friday! What's the deal?
Well, the two lucky SOB's will be strapped into F16 Falcon
combat-simulators of the 322 and 323 tactical squadrons on the
Air Force base which we will visit on friday! These are the same
simulators where the real pilots are training on. The two of you
will be linked and fighting against eachother. We will try and
make this a close engagement machinegun dogfight only...
I've seen the F16 simulator-room, and its rather narrow, so we
are trying to tape the fight on video, so all can view the fight
later that day or back in the conroom that evening. Pic of the
simulator in the schedule chapter on the EuroCon website (http://www.1strof.com/eurocon).
Sponsor News: Jan Mandler from Tiscali/Gamesurf, or better
known as the European Warbirds Server Honcho offered
his support for the EuroCon. He writes:
"... We can give all of your participants a free WB Euro account
for the duration of the EuroCon with a special arena set up just
for you so you guys can have a nice 22 vs 23 dogfight :-)
In addition to that, we'd like to contribute as a prize a one-year
subscription for the European Warbirds (with a value of 120 EUR)..."
Top notch guy, hey? You can win the One Year Free account
when you win the 1v1 F16 simulator dogfight on friday! So... I know
we are all into props and stuff, but a ride in one of those F16 simulators
is quite emersive, and that's an understatement! So maybe try and
find a copy of Falcon 4? :-)
More sponsor news... Wipass will bring one of the finest bottles
of Champagne for the winning team of saturday's EuroDweeb 500
cart-race endurance. Its up to you if you decide to drink it
or spray over the loosers who are watching the winners-ceremony :)
Thanks Wipass!
EuroCon 2003? I wanna be there!
The website is now up for just 2 weeks and already the first
payments are dripping in. Many payments are otw, and will
be in shortly. We found out it takes approx 7 to 10 days before
the money gets in, so if you transfered already, don't worry...
you are right on time.
If you haven't payed yet, I would advise you not wait too long. As you
might know we only have room for 45 pilots. Deadline for transfering
the EuroCon fee is March 31. This gives us just about enough time to
arrange a special EuroCon incentive with your callsign on it :-)
Oh... breaking news... it seems we will have a couple of
quite wellknown and respected American guests coming
over for the EuroCon...
... do check in on the EuroCon forum (http://pub36.ezboard.com/b322ndsqn1strofthenetherlands), the taunting has already started
overthere, and one of the American's is reveiling who we are about to
teach what real drinking is all about :)
Ok, that's it for now. Have a great weekend, and don't hesitate
to drop me an email (lapwin@1strof.com) if you have a question or whatever :-)
Fly safe!
-
That sounds like fun. If I win the lottery, I'm there. hehe

Hey! I'm offended by that. ;) I only drive 32km each way to and from work. That's not so bad though because my car is fun to drive. :D

gave me the correct one? I can't sent you the EuroCon email newsletters now.

Hi all!
48 days and counting... only a few weeks left untill the EuroCon
starts. And the program is ready :-) If you haven't checked all pages
yet, just do so now... Some items are NOT on the schedule...
we like to keep a few things secret... but I'm sure you don't mind
--positive-- surprises!

Euro-Con Thursday Massacre Event!
For the thursday evening we've planned an online Team-Event;
The Eurocon Showdown... its the thursday Massacre Event! This
is our alternative for the 2v2. Last year it took us loads of time,
this year we've squeezed the action into two hours of adrenaline!
Its team-work... its new... its devistating... and the two eventual
winners will fly the F16 simulator on friday at the Air Force Base
in a Machine Gun *only* close-dogfight in the Falcon!
1st Round of the event is two carrier-based teams against eachother.
All KI-43's. Your team wins when one of your team lands on the
enemy carrier (no flak). Both carriers are situated within visual
range of eachother. Time-limit is 45 minutes. If neither team
succeeded in landing a plane on the opponents flattop we just
count the bodies
Next round is all pilots of the winning team from the first round
forming seperate teams of 2 members. One flies a ju52, the
other A6M2 (zero). Objective is to kill the bus of the other
enemy. The winning team of this duel will win the F16
simulator dogfight... and the winner of the alternative 2v2 wins a
one year free subscribtion of Warbirds-Europe (thanks Gamesurf/
Tiscali!)
Full write-up about this event will be uploaded to the
EuroCon website soon...
Euro-CON forum.
As always you can discuss Euro-Con related issues on our board located

EuroCon Dweeb 500 Endurance Race...
The infamous go-cart race will last 1 hour and 18 minutes, that's 78 minutes
filled with adrenaline! New thing is we compete in teams (Squadrons) this

Each Squadron-member (a squad consists of 4 pilots each) will drive

The CO is either a driving team-member or an extra 'attached'
member. So a squadron consist of 4 drivers and -additionally-
a teamcaptain.
When one pilot is heading RTB, he comes to a full stop in the Pits,
hands over his Squadron-Transponder (device that messures your
team's time) to your wingy. He will fit the transponder to his kite and
race off for his part of the mission.
Now if you plan to come, it might be wise to find your team-mates
here. We encourage people building their own team, otherwise
the EuroCon-Crew takes the liberty to put you either team...
SO... if you are looking for G0-Kart squadron (team) members...
drop by and post on the forum!
Go view a movie impression, featuring Kossu,
