Title: I Need Help !
Post by: sprint on January 31, 2003, 09:36:03 AM
Asus TUV4X
Windows 98 SE
384 Ram PC 100
VIA Hyperion 4in1 v4.45 Drivers
BIOS 1005
Celeron 1.4 GHz
Gainward GeForce 3 Ti 200  128 ram
30.82's Nvidia Drivers
300 watt PS
Sound Blaster Live

I'm trying to upgrade a kid's computer and having stability problems and trouble with AH other games.  The game starts ok but the mouse is frozen all the time ... and will hang durning other things.

* I have turned down the timing
* Changed the PCI Latency Timer from 32 to 64 back to    32 ... didn't help.
* Turned down the Hardware Acceleration .. didn't help.
* Changed the  AGP setting to 2X

I'm knee deep in alligators and they keep biting my bellybutton ... the kid wants his computer back.

ANY IDEAS ... Suggestions

The MOBO was donnated along with the ram

had same prob on old puter
delete the video.cfg file in ah folder
when setting video on startup-go to lowest option(cant remember what it is-not on home puter now) -also set frame rates to minimum -whatever it is--as above :)
Make sure ground clutter is off--Cntrl C ?
Go to lower resolution --Shift F2 or F3

See if that alleviates some of problem - and then change from there

This is what I did with help from a master guru

"PCI Latency" patch for VIA Chipsets  ... by George Breese.  Patch v19 ... BINGO no more problems.  STABLE

PLUS

"Regarding the AGP bus running in 4x or 2X. In most Via
chipset boards, it is not enough to make the change in the BIOS... windows must also be changed. There's a string in the registry that must be tweaked to enable or disable 4x operation."

Now I'm running at 4X and my 3D Mark score with a Celeron 1.4GHZ is 5500.

The kid is happy

I though you just need to install VIA drivers in turbo mode to get AGP 4x. instead of 1x. didn't know that there was a registy setting also. hmmm.

I'll be glad to send the registry patch if you want  ... its very small.
As I mention ... some boards needs this.
