Title: KVM switches

I know nothing about these, 'cept the let ya use 1 keyboard/monitor/mouse with 2- boxes.

As I'm building myself a new box the wife is going to inherit this box, and her current machine is going to be given to the kids.  But being tight on space I can't set up another monitor et all for the kids.

So educate me a little on these and give me some recommendations please.  The wife plays EverQuest, running her screen at 1280x1024, so dinnae if that would affect choices or not (I'm guessing it will), and I'll make her flip machines when she wants to look up a map while I'm flyin :D

Caveman,

I had a setup similar to the one you want to do. Don't waste money on those cheap KVM's for $20-30. You loose too much quality in the monitor resolution. I picked up one of the Belkin OmniView E series (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Section_Id=200303&pcount=&Product_Id=122077&Section.Section_Path=%2FRoot%2FPeripheralSharing%2FOmniview%2E%2E%2ESwitches%2FOmniViewESeries%2Fct_Id%3E)  which worked very well. Make sure you use high-quality monitor switch cables to keep the quality on your 1280x1024 resolution.

That's a good KVM there Mark.

I have the OmniView Pro 8 port at home.  Really nice KVM's.

Cool, thanks.  Is it safe to assume the cables from Belkin would be up to the job?

I been using Linksys 2-Port KV for months now. I actually have three of them. Two here at home - One for desktop systems and the other for my servers. Also got one at work. I love these things. The Belkins I have used have given me problems in the past. But the Linksys works very well with my cordless keyboard and mouse. Very solid. No probs and slightly cheaper than the Belkins I believe.
