BEIJING (Reuters) - A Beijing beauty salon has rolled out a hairstyle simulating the wave of sheep hair to ring in the Year of the Sheep, as the new Chinese lunar Year of the Goat which starts on Saturday is called locally.
"Our goal is not to make customers look like sheep," Zhu Xingyu, a receptionist at Silian Beauty Center in a busy shopping district told Reuters on Friday.
"We want to simulate the natural wave of sheep hair. This style was created particularly with young, hip 23- to 24-year-old women in mind," he said.
Customers can spend up to three hours and between 120 yuan ($14.50) and 660 yuan to achieve the style, a variation on spiral curls popular with Chinese women born to stick-straight hair.
Women born in previous sheep years in the 12-year lunar cycle have comprised the bulk of customers requesting the style since it was introduced two months ago, Zhu said.
The word for sheep, goat and ram is the same in Chinese.
