A new skyscraper (http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/asiapcf/east/02/01/china.skyscraper.ap/index.html) is to be built in China.
Or is it a bottle opener? You be the judge:

Maybe an Anti Bin Ladin Defense Structure?

And there was me thinking post-modernism in architecture was dead.
*sigh*

I bet I could fly a Lancaster thru that hole.
Inverted.

One word: Stargate ;)

It looks like a bottle of mens' perfume.

Rofl that was just what came in to my grotesque mind..=)
They should mask the hole with big textile and put maybe picture of the "Great Satan" (you know who i mean..;) ) on to it, no terrorist could resist flying just on that spot!

I saw it in the MA once. :)

What's the hole for? Seems an expensive bit of icing on the cake.
I like it though. Very nice. :)

If the construction of this building is along the same lines of the construction of their latest big construction, the 3 mile wide dam on the Yangtze, I would be woe to go near it.
The dams concrete foundations are already showing signs of cracking because of improperly laced supports and faulty workmanship. Their answer is to pour more concrete over the cracks... thats smart...
Lastly, that damn is going to cover 2 nuclear waste sites, and 12 different toxic waste sites... oughta be a hoot to be down stream from that monstrosity.
Maybe they'll top off the construction of this new building with an uncovered radioactive storage site on the roof!

Can you give us any more details about the problems on the Three Gorges Dam? Any links?
-
Grun,
Will get the exact article for you on monday, read it at work last week!
-
its being built for shanghai and the hole is for wind resistance. its required structurally i think. i saw a discovery channel show on it, the building is enormous, twice the size that the wtc was if im not mistaken. btw you could fly 3 lancs through it abreast most likely.

The building is erected by japanese and many chinese resent that hole as they believe it's a symbol for japanese flag.
There is a whole load of info in the Three Gorges Dam on the net - mostly protest.
miko

its not owned or funded by the japanese
