Any Ideas?
Hello,
I need some ideas on a problem that is killing my play in Aces High.
First the hardware details:
ViewSonic P225f
Abit TH7-II Motherboard
2x512MB PC800 RDRAM
Inel Pentium 4 2GHz Processor
GeForce 4 Ti4200 128mb
Soundblaster Audigy Soundcard
Adaptec 2940 UW controller
2x20GB IDE HardDrives
Plextor Ultraplex CD (SCSI)
Plextor CD-RW (SCSI)
Iomega 2GB Jazz (SCSI)
Antec 350w PS
Game Hardware
TM Cougars
CH Pro Pedals USB
Software:
Windows XP Pro (legal) SP1
Latest drivers for Audigy and GeF4
Printer Drivers for Cannon I850
Office XP
OS and apps on 1st Harddrive
Swap file is on 2nd Harddrive in its own partition
Games:
Aces High played at 1600x1200 32bit
IL-2 " "
Ghost Recon " "
Pings to MA 30ms netstat in game, almost perfect flat lines.
Now to the problem. For the last week when I enter AH it starts out fine, smooth as silk with my Framerate fairly steady in the 75-85fps range. After a short time it will go to 0 (zero) then hang in single digits a minute and then stay constant at 17-24fps. Sometimes it will go back to 75-85 but always drops back.
I thought it might be a cooling issue but I can exit out of AH, go straight into IL-2 and it works great.
I have deleted AH and reinstalled from scratch. Even did a system restore from an image I made immediately after the OS install and I am still stuck.
Framerates in the 20s I could live with but 0-8? yuuuccckkk.
Anyone have some wild bellybutton guess they would share with me, or even an educated opinion would be appreciated
TIA

WHICH latest video drivers? I don't know about 41.xx series but if using 40.xx series suggest going back to 30.82. Strange that it works ok in IL2 though.
Have you tried turning off unused services?

Sounds like something in the background... but ya did do the restore...
Is your hardware recognized properly? including the monitor?

Thanks for the replys. The vid driver is the 41.09 and has been fine. All devices show proper and with the right driver versions. Durned if I see anything running in the background, but I am going thru now and disabling all uneeded services now to be sure (thanks for the link :) )

After going thru the services and disableing all the recomended ones, lo and behold I am back at 85fps (refresh rate set) in allmost all situation. Thanks!
I am going to go back and enable them one at a time to see who was the culprit. Job for a rainy day ;)
