Wouldn't it be nice if there was a directory in AH2 EDITOR like this?
/aircraft/p51d/sounds - for custom sounds
/aircraft/p51d/cockpit - for cockpit art and gauges
/aircraft/p51d/skins/summer - depends on the map
/aircraft/p51d/skins/winter - depends on the map
/aircraft/p51d/skins/desert - depends on the map
Ideally, the skins are set by an option in the map and are NOT editable outside the game. That way guys won't be skinning Spits and La-7's with target spots in neon green colors. Depending on the date or a season, certain skins would be available to the pilot.

Why custom cockpits? I'd think if you looked at every P51D in the war.. the cockpits would be identical...

But many pilots put a pic of their girl on the panel somewhere!

What if someone wished to improve the cockpits? Current we can only have identical gauges in the game for all aircraft. That way each a/c can have more historically correct cockpits.
Sure graphically they may be different but every bird in ww2 had it's own gauges. Some in metric, some imperial. And let's not forget gauges in Russian, German, Japanese and English lettering.

Also, many aircraft had upgraded engines and such, so many aircraft of the same model would not sound alike.

True, but we use what Dale n Doug gives us - X plane with X engine at X Hp. :)
My thinking is that by seperating each cockpit, gauges for a SEA map might be made realistic with authentic Japanese gauges in the aircraft in Metric while our American planes have english gauges in Imperial.
