Yet again arena can't handle the load when the numbers get over 500.
-
This is a very serious problem. It is was said groups were doing massive troops drops purposely. I have no eveidence other than text buffer, but this has to be fixed. Your logs will show a sharp 200 player decrease in numbers roughly concurrent with my first post.

It'd be so much simpler if they just had 2 MA's, each limited to around 350 players (or even 1 with 250 and one at 450). Maybe even put small maps in one and the big maps in the other :)
I logged when I started to notice the lag getting bad.

Split arenas the sim dies

I agree, though i said this over a yr ago...
SPlit arenas the sim doesn't die, and it will permit AH to grow.
Its like fish in an aquarium +) they only grow to the size of the tank. If the tank (in this case host) can't support a bigger fish (player base) it stops growing...
I doubt we will ever see 1000 players in the MA.. (plz prove me wrong)
I'd be perfectly happy to see two arena's supporting 500 players though. If I can't get into MA#1 I can at least get into MA#2

Funny you should say that Poopster....another game I played used such a system and managed to thrive for well over a decade using such a system, and in its prime had several times as many users as AH has ever had.
Besides, if what you say is correct (which it obviously can't be), then AH is doomed to "die" since division is inevitable what with the upcomming "mission arena" and all (not to mention the current CT represents a small yet real division).

Well,..its not the server causing the problem. Been monitoring it for several hours.

Is there any truth to the "mass goon drop" causing the problems Skuzzy? If so....lets string em up by their pettards when more than 4-5 goons drop :D
-
If its not the Server what could it be ?
The lag is VERY bad when player numbers grow above 500.
It becommmes allmost unplayable.
I am lucky that to "normal" Euro times i dont face 500 players but when i do, its not really fun to play and i usually log off.
(btw 3am in the morning i should lock of anyway :-) )

Definately need to do something ??? Several times lately I have logged in to warps/dumps/disappearing planes when the numbers were 500+ and just logged off in disgust. I even tried the CT a couple of times after leaving the MA and it had the same problems (others were having same experience in both arenas). When under 500, esp. under 450 or so I never see any problems at all. Has to be server/code overload?

Well then it's NOT the numbers that are getting you down it's the lag when numbers get above a certain threshold.
Why don't we attack that problem ??
With the big maps when there is 500+, there is plenty of places to play where no one is around.
I'm strange, I like the map packed with people, still love Mindy with a huge census.
Figure out what the lag problem is and fix it.
Or split it, and ruin a good thing. ( In my opinion )

Dont we have two Arenas now... the MA and CT??

Things tend to get real warpy when the arena goes past 500... starting to get annoy'n

Yes

Its acctualy not a bug, Troops are exactly the same as other weapons with the exception of 1 thing. They are brodcast to everyone because they can be killed, bombs and rockets are brodcast to only people in the area of the drop.
Now do a little math of say a 20 person troop drop with 500 people on line.
20 * 8 = 160
160 * 500 = 80000
So suddenly the servers trying to blast out 80000 messages all at once. Debating how to aleviate the bottle neck.

Since that is the case, it is plausible that the numbers themselves aren't the culprit, but the base capturing that goes on with that amount of people on.
Wouldn't even necesarily have to be a 'mass' goon drop- figure with 500 people on there are usually 5-6 big attacks going on, plus 30-40 milkruns on one of the big maps. Probably have 4-5 sets of troops 'in the air' at any given moment- with 500 people on thats 25,000 messages the server is trying to send out all the time.

You have to expect increased network traffic when there are more planes near you. If you have a slow connection (dial-up) you're gonna have lag. Try flying in an area where there are fewer planes, if the lag/warping is reduced then you know it's your connection.

Here's a crude drawing that illustrates the increase in traffic that proximity can create.
