Yes, puppy was not a typo, just an expression. It was a Guppy.

Saw a similar scene with a Coast Guard C-130 that was about the same size, except he completely demolished his on landing.  I guess that's the great thing about the hobby... you're never really done.

This B29 could actually carry a X1. They droped the X1 and an another guy was flying it. He would glide the X1 for landing, then fire a rocket engine. The X1 would shoot straight up and glide home.

Quite entertaining to watch.:cool:

I remember seeing the X-1-launching B-29 outside of Cincinnati five or so years ago.  Dropped the X-1, and the X-1 made a gliding pass over the grass strip, its engine igniter clicking like mad.  Just when everyone thought it was going to stall and crash, the engine caught and that thing shot into the sky... uhhh, like a rocket.  

And then the B-29 pilot almost dug the wing in on landing.  Quite the exciting flight.  :D
