I'm not certain, but I think the guys with all numbers for names are actually playing in like some computer gaming center like those XS4ALL or whatever places.  They're not regular subscribers like the rest of us.   Can anybody confirm?

I have to agree with this yokel. Many times I couldn’t give 6 call because name was….unpronounceable. If a person is a regular subscriber, change your name to something easier to pronounce. HT will not mind, its not that hard to change date base IMO.

Edit

Why the hell doesn't URL and IMG doesn't work? (Before it did)

Hey they can use any name they want but its kind of hard telling some pilot named (*&2543!(*@& there is a bog on your 6. Its not allways easy to give a auto check 6 when in a fight. I have seen many *&52409&%(^ pilots die while im trying to figure out what to say on radio. So if ya have a handle like !@$(hU3m you might want to think about how many times you have died with no check 6. I mean names like 999000 are easy hey 999 spit 6. But how do you pronounce  ^$(3.t3?

Just my opinion I could be wrong.

Well,
I have to point out that when I created my 1st account , 3 years ago... the registration form is not that clear (it says something like: enter your ID <-- Replacing "ID" with "Handle/Player Name" would help).

maybe this has changed since though :o

I figure that these are just the AI pilot bots being "field tested" for the TOD arena. I think some more development work is needed on the AI routines, IMO. :)

It's a good point and it's not just the numbers it the weird names too. I think the original intention for the game designer was as for real life pilots that we would adopt easily remembered nicknames or call signs. Yanks usually go for something macho a la Top Gun; Maverick or Viper etc. The Brits usually something mildly ironic or rude as suits their anarchic sense of humour.

Lets face it 4563278 hardly slips off the tongue and must be tricky for mission leaders to give orders. My name is not so bad, I can be called Ceepee or CP tripleX. Still I'd like to change it.

Is it actually possible to change your nickname? I think I'd like to go for something new that's a little bit macho yet slightly rude or ironic as befits my location somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic.

I think the system asks for something "alphanumerical" as game ID. Most know what "numerical" could mean, but they fail to get the "alpha"....

I find it hard to believe anyone could be that confoundingly retarded.  I think it's just people who havn't played much in the way of online games and don't realize that thier name matters.

Innominated, it's true, I've read someone confessing on country channel.

The text messages without names are from players who type on the channel before the server has transmitted, who they are I think. Try typing directly after logon and ask, if you're nonamed.
