Title: Boycott French And German Products!!
Post by: Hangtime on February 11, 2003, 08:23:05 PM
Rip is somewhere in Washington State.

He has a BMW.. he keeps it in a fully carpeted garage.

There's a bounty on the Beemer..

Please do not harm rip when you shred the car.

Have you considered that if you boycot german and french cars you have to drive these funny cars made in USA, Korea, Japan and other nice countries ? :D

No Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, VW, Maybach, Chrysler, Rolls-Royce, Citroen, Peugeout...

Instead you have Yugo, Hyundai, Kia (LOOOL), and what they call their cars.

Have fun !

All they are doing is trying to find a peaceful way for this process to go on,  sans bloodshed.  More power to them, i really hope they succeed now just so they piss on your "patriotic" party.

Yes - you are right. Seat of Spain also.

But BMW kicked out Jaguar - so the boycot faction can try to drive these "shit my engine is dead again" cars :D

I prefer my Mercedes :D :D

Jaguar has never been owned by BMW. It is owned by Ford.

BMW owned Rover. Incidentally, since becoming a British company again, Rover is producing decent cars, and they have a sports car on the way this year, developed under the noses of BMW. You can imagine a Great Escape-esque scene at Rover while under German ownership:

BMW Goon: What are ze Englanders doing in zat garage?

Rover Mechanic: Quick lads - the goons are coming! Put the fireplace back in place and cover the tunnel to the sportcar workshop!

BMW Goon: You zer! Vat are you doing?

Rover Mechanic: Nothing gov'ner . Just polishing my tools. Keeping them shiny like.

BMW Goon: Very Vell. Get back to vurk on ze new mini. Ve vill be taking it back to Deutschland wiv us. Along wiv land-rover and range-rover.

Rover Mechanic: Right you are mate.

Ups - you are right - it was Rover.
:D

And Ford now has control of Jaguar ?

And Mercedes (or was it VW?) Rolls Royce ?

The Mini Cooper is still under control of BMW ?

Have the British tried to sold all their car industries to foreigners ?
;)

Maybe KIA or Hyundai will buy Rover in the future...

Look at this beauty made in Germany:

It costs only 400000 Euro ;)

Acceleration from 0 to 100km/h in 3 seconds.

This Porsche goes in production at the end of 2003.

I don't use any French or German products.  I live in wine country so I have no need or desire for French wine.  German beer is great but Polish or Czech beer is just as good.  As far as manufactured goods, the Japanese passed the Europeans a couple decades ago in value and quality.  So my boycott would have no effect.

French companys have a long respected history of supplying the folks you'd least like to have to supper.

Including Michelin.. who happily turned all their production efforts to the german cause (and got paid handsomely for it) during the occupation. Vive le Resistance!

Who was the corporate entity that refused Vietnamese Independance for Vietnam and hence set the stage for their colonial war of independance?

michelin.

What a great idea. I bought my last bottle of French wine last month. There is some nice cheese I buy that is french that I will not purchase any more.  I also will not be buying any more Belgum beer. I have bought Michelin tires for years but my last truck came with Firestone's on them and I really like them. I guess the recall made them rethink their quality control. I would get another set rather than support a French tire company.

All in all this probably means squat to the French but if a million more of us stopped buying French wine imagine what the effect would be.  :D

As far as German products go I still have to go to Spoga in Hamburg each year for my business but I will be sure to minimize what I spend while there. I am a Ford truck kind of guy so Mercs and BMW's never were a vehicle I would consider owning. They are for small men also. My brother has a 5 series BMW and I can hardly fit in the thing. No headroom.

Warren Buffet is one of the biggest shareholder of Gillete. Shick was recently sold by Pfizier the drug company to Energiser the battery company. The worlds razor market is controlled by the US.

Unless you consider Bic razors a real razor. Bic is to razors what France is to world diplomacy. An inferior product and about as significant as a pimple on an elephants butt.

I'm on my second, and haven't had an ounce of trouble from this one after two years. The last one had a coil pack go on the M25 coming home from Luton Airport, so it was firing on only four cylinders and not all six. I limped home. The VW Assist package meant I could have got an engineer to it that night, but preferred to wait for the specialist the next day. He came at 8am, diagnosed the fault, drove to the nearest dealer to get a replacement and had fitted it and buggered off by 10am. BTW, my current 4x4 Golf has done 33,000 miles, and I'm only just getting ready to change the tyres - treads down to 3mm on all four. The current tyres are... M-M-Michelins! So... a German car with French tyres - LOL!

Little known fact about Franco US relations in 1986
By 1986, Gaddaffi of Libya had committed some atrocities in support of world terrorism, and openly declared his support (both financial and ideological) for certain terror groups. A young girl was amongst those killed when Vienna airport was bombed in 1985.  So Ronald Reagan decided to stuff up Gaddaffi by organising a raid. And some countries (eg. France) were opposed to it, and would not let the American aircraft participating in the raid to pass through their airspace. Relations between the two countries soured! Two years later, I was on holiday in Jersey with my American wife, and we decided to do a day trip to St. Malo, France on the catamaran. When we got there, the French said my wife couldn't come in. All US citizens needed visas to enter France. She had not needed one in 1984. With a bit of persuasion, they let us in - as we had no luggage and it clearly was just a day trip. And then they admitted the reason for the visa - it was basically just obstructionism that had been put in place to piss off the Americans as a punishment for that raid on Libya.

US VW Golfs are probably manufactured in US, those Ghastly Merc SUVs where all the panels are wonky and bits keep falling off. UK VWs are made in Germany and are more reliable based on anecdotal evidence in this thread.

Hmm, My parents were refused entry for being swedish. All border controls in Europe had suddenly been put on a terror alert and all non EU nationals visiting france needed to have a Visa. My parents said
"But we have a lunch appointment in Strasbourg in 20 minutes!"

and the Immigration Police said

"Good grief, 20 minutes? You'd better get a move on" and waved them through. Thoroughly civilized people IMO.

Scholz - certainly it was true for the Ford Escort about 20 years ago. The Euro one was much better. I believe they even offered a Euro version in the US. Where Euro cars beat the US cars is in the area of suspension and handling. They're used to straight roads there, whereas we have to do a lot more cornering.

-Not a troll! Please don't flame me. :D
