Alex:
There was me, that is Alex, and my three droogs, that is Pete, Georgie Boy and Dim. And we sat in the Korova Milk Bar trying to make up our rassoodocks what to do with the evening. The Korova Milk Bar sold milk plus - milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old Ultra-Violence.
Bum(singing):
In Dublin's fair city Where the girls are so pretty I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone As she wheeled her wheelbarrow Through streets broad and narrow Crying Cockles and Mussels Alive, Alive, OH
Alex:
One thing I could never stand is to see a filthy old drunky howling away at the filthy songs of his fathers and going Blerp Blerp in between as it might be a filthy old orchestra in his stinking rotten guts. I could never stand to see anyone like that whatever his age might be. But more especially when he was real old like this one was.
Bum:
Can you spare some cutter me brothers.........?
Oh, go on do me in ya bastard cowards. I don't want to live anyway not in a stinking world like this.
Alex:
Oh? And what's so stinking about it?
Bum:
It's a stinking world cause there's no law and order any more. It's a stinking world because it lets the young get on to the old like you've done. Oh, it's no world for an old man any longer. What kind of a world is it at all? Men on the moon and men spinning around the earth and there's not no attention paid to earthly law and order no more......
(singing) Oh dear dear land I fought for thee

Fast Times at Ridgemont High?
-
The opening shot in 'The Player'.
-
"Saving Private Ryan"...The Veterans graveyard shot followed by that stare that leads into D-Day.
-
I liked "Quest for Fire".
When the cave man dude went out grabbed some cave chick and started going at it doggy style while she was washing something or another in a river/stream.
I'll NEVER forget the look on my dads face. I think I was about 9ish or so then.

A fine choice Batz!
Me and my droog Curval are pleased that you show some respect.
That is the obvious winner.
Other than that, I'll have to choose the opening scene to The Two Towers, with Gandalf falling down the abyss and slashing the Balrog with a sword.
-
The first scene in 'Full Metal Jacket'.

Agreed...it is as clear as an unmuddied lake, sir. Clear as an azure sky of deepest summer.
Saving Private Ryan is a distant second IMHO.

I'm moody at times. I like the opening scene of "Once Upon a Time in the West." The windmill noises are distracting, yet hypnotizing, and set the stage for impending doom...at the hands of Charles Bronson.:D
That, along with the bad guy drinking water from his hat. It's like waiting for the other shoe to drop.:)

The way of the gun, great opening scene.

Star Wars :)
To be honest, Contact stands among my favorite opening scenes.

Yep that one is the best. It could have run as a movie, all by itself.
"Looks like we're one horse shy."
"I think you brought two too many."

I like the opening scene from The Matrix... basically because it was such a shock at the time I saw it (opening day).

The combination of peace and extreme violence make for the best opening scenes. Being smashed right out of your everyday lifestyle. React as fast as a half asleep cat or..

The news chopper scene at the beginning of "Air America"

Laz is correct and this is the very thing Clockwork Orange does. Though I expect then if its ever remade the transition from singing drunk to ultra violence would be much more extreme.
I never buy into "emotional" imagery. I always view it as a gimmick and I am never sucked in by it. The same goes with "speeches", they never hook me.
I like to have that "What the hell was that" feeling. Not that I need to be surprised or I cant foresee whats coming but its the extreme contrasts that gets me.
