I've had it with these bellybutton clowns. End NATO, bring the boys back home. I'm sick of paying for American boys to do something that European boys should be doing for themselves. If the European countries that have a clue want to form a new post-NATO alliance, that's cool. But NATO needs to end.

the us could pull out of nato and arrange a seperate treaty to deploy whatever defense system it developes. Or form a whole new alliance based and missile defense. Theres plenty of eastern europe countries that would love US money that comes with US troops and military bases.
The world wont end if the us says f'it to nato.

NATO was built against USSR, this was the only purpose. Looks like now NATO is still directed against Russia, and any European country that refuses to lay under US (see agression in Yugoslavia).
I'd be happy to see NATO dismissed, especially when it's already in Baltic republics, with American air bases within 10 minutes from SPb and radars controlling Russian airspace for several hundreed kilometers.

DON'T assume that all European countries are like Germany, Belgium and France. In fact, they stand very much alone on the NATO issue.
It'd be akin to me saying 'The Americas have a poor human rights record' - including Cuba and whatnot and equalling them with Americans.
Some European countries are supporting ya - don't forget that.

I just think that the current alliance is obsolete. Maybe a new alliance with different membership would be better.

Well you can't blame the Baltics and other former USSR satellite nations. They have good reason (in their history) to fear Russian agression. But I don't think we'll be seeing that face of Russia any time soon.

For Baltic republics NATO membership is a way to confirm their actions against non-"native" population. Latvia have become a fascist state, in Estonia they build monuments for SS murderers... And what for should we attack them? We have enough smoked fish, and they don't have anything else to offer.
As for other xUSSR countries - can you imagine Russia invading Kazakhstan?! ;) Or maybe Ukraine? It's absolutely impossible and I like it.
