While we have seen the complaints about the server lag, it has taken a few days to get a handle on what potential problem it could be.
We know we have had some issues with MySQL running away on the server. This was more of nuisance as the server recognizes 4 CPU's, the other 3 were doing just fine with the load we run in the Main Arena. Trying to isolate why this was happening has taken some time.
The last couple of days we have been in attack mode trying to isolate why it was happening without interferring with clients play time.
Today it has culminated in some changes to the server software. A minor kernel change, plus changes to the MySQL engine implementation was done for the Main Arena server.
We will be monitoring the server to see if the changes we made will help alleviate this particular nuance, as well as looking at other things to see if we have more issues.
We should know how well or poor the changes made will work over the next couple of days.

MySQL... crappy Database, doesn`t comply to SQL standart, but it`s fast... and it hints to...

Lag has been much better tonight with 500+ players on. Good job, skuzzy :D

I didn't notice any really crazy warps or lags tonight. Looks good so far. Thanks!

Thanks for all the hard work guys, and it really was better tonight, but I was still experiencing 'chat lag', and game lag as well. I'm on DSL, and the ping times are always below 80 or so. It was markedly improved tonight over past times when the arena reached 480+, but it was still there.
Of course, it's never stopped me before, and the improvement only makes it harder to find an excuse to log off:rolleyes:
Thanks again for all the hard work, HTC.

Good choice Skuzzy, as long as it`s free and a unix ;)
I wouldn`t recommend postgreSQL (which I use myself on the only debian box in this windoze-infested business I`m typing from ATM) over MySQL - MySQL is just faster and less resource-hungry and works just fine for simple tasks.

Last night when I was on, I didn't notice any major warping, but I did notice one bizarre change -- nobody was listed in my voice channel roster, not even myself. I could see names in the range channel roster, but the voice channel roster remained blank, even though I was hearing people talking on that channel.

MySQL? Eeek.....been playing for that for a while and it just explodes nicely for the applications I've been trying to make it work with. If you guys are fairing better, Salute! I've just opted to buy a copy of MS SQL 2k at some point and make the pain go away :)
Played last night, didnt see any lag....

So is AH2 gonna be OpenGL compatible so we can play it on Linux or FreeBSD?
C'mon! Please! (Really!)

hmmmm ...
$1500 (or just $500 for developer license)
or
FREE
tough choice there ;)
I've been working with MySQL for a number of years and the only problems I've encountered were related to my own code and not MySQL itself ... food for thought. :p

Made some more changes this morning.
